Issue 1 Summer 2012
Welcome to the 1st edition ‌ of the Swansea Healthy Pre-school Newsletter. This will be a quarterly publication sent to all pre-school settings to update on what’s going on locally.
The Healthy Pre-School Scheme website has recently been established and is available to view at: http://www.swansea.gov.uk/index.c fm?articleid=49220 The launch of the Healthy Pre-School Scheme took place in the Richard Ley Development Centre on 21st February 2012. The aim of the launch was to raise awareness of the Healthy Pre-School scheme to both Pre-School settings and partner organisations. The launch was a success with over 30 Pre- School settings expressing an interest in the scheme. Thank you to everyone who attended, whether as a guest or a speaker.
Is a great way to share good practice with other Pre-School settings and celebrate your hard work and achievements. Each quarter, you will be sent an email requesting information from all preschools wishing to appear in the newsletter. Some newsletters may focus on a particular theme, this one being sharing good practice with others.
The website includes information on all 7 health topics covered within the Healthy Pre-School scheme. The website also includes links to useful sites to access information on health topic areas.
Busy Feet Training took place in the Richard Ley Centre on the 23rd April 2012. The training was provided in order to increase confidence in the delivery of physical activity within Pre-School settings. The session consisted of physical activity demonstrations and food related activities. Smelly pots, feely games and creating images with food scraps were all part of the activities.
Practical activities really made you think about how you could use the pack with the children in our setting
The action games will be really useful and I know the children will really enjoy

For settings that are able to deliver parent session this is a great idea!! If you are not able to deliver parent session then perhaps sending recipes home or including a recipe on a newsletter or notice board might be a nice way to send messages home about the work you are doing within your settings.
