for investing in your theatre’s future Sir Harry Secombe Trust presents

In January 2013, Swansea Grand Theatre launched a campaign to refurbish key areas of the theatre. The money is being raised by customers with their contribution of 50p per ticket. The current total in the fund is over £22,000. Work undertaken so far includes the installation of energy efficient hand driers in all toilets and new wooden tables and benches in the garden, which were made by the City and County of Swansea’s Ground Force team. Currently, the auditorium is being reupholstered by local business, Gwydr Upholstery. For further details about how the money will be spent, please keep an eye on our website www.swanseagrand.co.uk and Front of House boards. If you would like to make an additional donation, please send a cheque to: Restoration Fund, Swansea Grand Theatre, Singleton St, Swansea, SA1 3QJ.

Dedication Plaques If you want to play an even bigger role in the campaign, there’s also an opportunity to purchase a dedication plaque to be placed on one of the seats in the main auditorium for ten years. It could be a fantastic present or a lasting memento for a loved one. Please see our website for full details. Seat dedications cost £250. Since its inception, the scheme has proved to be very popular. Purchases to date have included Swansea Grand’s Theatre Club and the UK’s biggest panto company, Qdos Entertainment. We’d like to thank you in advance for your continued support to help us raise these essential funds.

MR. SPITFIRE Following on from their NODA (National Operatic & Dramatic Association) award-winning production of Oliver, the Sir Harry Secombe Trust is proud to present the premier performance of Mr. Spitfire, the life story of Reginald Mitchell, inventor of the aircraft that helped us to win the Second World War. A heart-warming new musical that has twenty original songs that will stay in your mind long after you leave the theatre.

THE SENSATIONAL 60S EXPERIENCE

ED BYRNE

Without doubt the most explosive 60s show touring the UK; this is the must see 60s show for 2013. Original classics performed by four of the most popular bands of the 60s. Starring The Marmalade, Herman’s Hermits, Chris Farlowe, Steve Ellis’ Love Affair.

A self-confessed “miserable old git” since the age of 23, Ed Byrne is now in his forties. While for others this might result in a crisis that prompts the purchase of a sportscar, Ed embraces middle age with open arms. Come join him, as he truly comes of age and gives out his clarion cry: "I am in my forties. HEAR ME ROAR!"

MAGIC A KIND OF QUEEN QUEEN’S GREATEST HITS Magic, the first, and still the best, tribute to Queen. Magic recreates all the complex harmonies that are Queen’s trademark recording sound. This, along with two guitars, bass, drums and the brilliant piano and keyboard skills of Dave Chapman produce a sound that is second to none. Not attempting to emulate Queen visually, Magic creates all the excitement of a Queen live show, not to be missed.

Based on the play 'Lillom' by Ferenc Molnar, as adapted by Benjamin F. Glazer Original dances by Agnes de Mille This amateur production is presented by arrangement with JOSEF WEINBURGER LTD. on behalf of R&H Theatricals of New York.

THE KILLING FLOWER By Salvatore Sciarrino (1947 - ) Conductor: Michael Rafferty Sung in English

Luci mie traditrici Sciarrino’s extraordinary, whispered opera has been a sensational hit across Europe and now Music Theatre Wales brings this contemporary Italian masterpiece to the UK for the first time.

Four hundred years after his death in 1613, The Killing Flower is the tale of a tragic love triangle inspired by the true story of Gesualdo, composer and murderer. With a stunning cast of four singers and the Music Theatre Wales Ensemble, passion, jealousy and bitter betrayal combine in this immersive production by Michael McCarthy and Simon Banham. As part of the audience, you’ll be brought onto the stage itself and into a specially created performance space where the story unfolds before you. An eavesdropper on the drama, you’ll experience the beauty and nightmare tension of the piece: hushed conversations and fraught silences in an absorbing musical world. Join Director Michael McCarthy for a pre-show talk at 6.30pm. His fascinating insights and sheer enthusiasm is guaranteed to increase your enjoyment of the performance ahead.
