The bus service allows more visitors to sample the food, drink, history, heritage, adventurous activities and visitor attractions in the Gower which in turn adds to the prosperity of businesses delivering these type services. Marketing and promotion of the Gower bus service has added value to all of the Gower businesses by bringing the publics’ attention to the benefits of a day out in Gower, not only to those without their own means of transport who may otherwise be excluded, but also to those with their own transport, who would prefer to travel by more sustainable means. The Digital Marketing for Sustainable transport project has been created to replace part of the Gower Sunday bus submission for an innovative digital marketing strategy. This project’s scope has includes cycling and walking in conjunction with the promotion of bus services, extended to all rural wards.

2014 – 2020

Swansea Rural Development Partnership

Digital Marketing for Sustainable Transport

Building on the existing promotions by both Tourism Swansea Bay and BayTrans through their respective websites, this project aims to create a desire to visit the area and increase more visitors into and within all rural wards by sustainable means, encouraging greater use by local residents and those of greater Swansea. Residents of the rural Swansea wards will benefit from this project as well as numerous local businesses providing food and drink, visitor attractions, gifts and other services. It is anticipated that there will be an increase in income to these businesses with more money being spent by the increased visit footfall arriving by sustainable transport. Further benefits include evidence that those using public transport tend to spend more per head that those by car. Furthermore, fewer cars results in a reduction of carbon footprint, therefore reducing the pressure on roads and car parks. It is envisaged that after 3 years, the digital marketing will continue to develop income streams and sponsorship from the tourism trade to continue beyond 2019 without public support. Project Factsheet Gower Community Tourism Ambassador Pilot and Feasibility Study

Initiated by the Gower Landscape Partnership and part funded by the RDP, the project aims to enhance the experience of visitors by establishing trained volunteer Tourism Ambassadors in communities across the Peninsular. Its’ main aim to coordinate, deliver and manage a community tourism ambassador pilot scheme on Gower and conduct a feasibility study into rolling out a wider scheme and in across Gower and the other areas of rural Swansea. The plan is to build a team of Gower Community Tourism Ambassadors, local volunteers that will help provide a warm and friendly welcome to our visitors and act as knowledgeable hosts. To accomplish this, a two day training programme was held to recruit the Gower Ambassadors, with workshops taking place in Oxwich, Reynoldston and Penclawdd. The outcome to be that the Tourism Ambassador will be expected to be an expert on all things around them, have a beacon of knowledge, a local who is passionate about the area and dedicated to revealing its hidden gems to visitors. This is the first visible round-house example of Gower's rich Iron Age heritage. The interactive aspect of the roundhouse and its’ replaceable panels mean that children and participants can have a hands on experience of the building process and techniques used for thousands of years’ on Gower. The project focus is on the Iron Age - a critical turning point for Welsh heritage. The roundhouse is a sustainable building for instructional use, explaining the usages of plants and the environment for peoples throughout history and today. Constructed using sustainable, locally sourced materials and encouraging local upkeep, the community and local schools have been involved in the process, demonstrating a low technology/ low energy way of life. Port Eynon & Horton Feasibility Study The aim of the project is to undertake a feasibility study to look at how Swansea Council operates its assets within the villages of Port Eynon and Horton on the Gower Peninsula. The study looked at council assets such as toilets, car parks, slipways and the public realm and engaged with local stakeholders, residents and tourists throughout the season. It will also look at opportunities focusing on innovative tourist ventures as well as ways of improving long term sustainability that benefits the local community and its economy. The feasibility study will be completed early 2019 and opportunities identified and acted upon once resources are made available. Following on from the completion of this study we would have a working document that could be used to implement change as and when funding streams become available. Businesses will benefit from improved infrastructure and services resulting in a better experience to those visiting the area. With improvements, more visitors will be encouraged to not only visit more frequently but stay longer contributing to an improved local economy. The exit strategy for the project is on completion of the feasibility study we would have a working document that could then be used to implement changes to the destination as and when suitable funding becomes available. Project Fact Sheet

The aim of the project was to pilot outdoor evening produce markets at Parkmill with associated educational activity and determine the levels of demand for evening produce markets at the Gower Heritage Centre’s outside courtyard.

2014 – 2020

Swansea Rural Development Partnership

Market at the Mill

The project would deliver three evening markets over the Summer period, one inside the school holidays, including a ‘make your own pizza’ educational activity and other educational activities for children, young people and families. The pilot builds on the success of Cae Tan CSA weekly pick up, the popularity of Little Valley Bakery, Hoogars’, Square Peg Café and Swansea Food Assembly and increased public interest in organic and local produce as well as more community focused business models The market will take a commission from producers and make money from the sale of local beer, ciders and receive donations for taking part in educational activities. If it is sufficiently well attended, this will provide the project with the necessary evidence to include in a business plan for the following year as well as create a small amount of funds on account to pay for the advertising and co-ordination of future events. £7,500.00

Mae'r prosiect peilot yn adeiladu ar lwyddiant casgliad wythnosol CSA Cae Tân, poblogrwydd Little Valley Bakery, Hoogars’, Square Peg Café a The Food Assembly yn Abertawe a diddordeb cynyddol gan y cyhoedd mewn cynnyrch organig a lleol ynghyd â modelau busnes sy'n canolbwyntio'n fwy ar y gymuned. Bydd y farchnad yn derbyn comisiwn gan gynhyrchwyr ac yn codi arian drwy werthu cwrw a seidr lleol ac yn derbyn rhoddion ar gyfer cymryd rhan mewn gweithgareddau addysgol. Os bydd digon o bobl yn cymryd rhan, bydd hyn yn darparu'r dystiolaeth angenrheidiol i'r prosiect ei chynnwys mewn cynllun busnes ar gyfer y flwyddyn ganlynol ynghyd â chreu swm bach o arian ar gyfrif i dalu am hysbysebu a chydlynu digwyddiadau yn y dyfodol.
