The exhibition explores skin decoration from 12,000BC, through Captain Cooks voyages, right up to the present, through many countries and cultures. From the poor to the prosperous, sailors to soldiers, criminal to cultural, tattooing is as diverse as those that wear them, as our exhibition illustrates.
Anne Frank +You 9 April to 4 May The Anne Frank Trust presents a historical and contemporary look at the story of Anne Frank. The exhibition puts her experiences of war, dictatorship, racism and identity through the rise of Hitler and the Nazis and ensuing Holocaust in the context of British teenage life today.
Science Exhibition & Super Sleuth Childrens Trail 11 March to 4 July
An exhibition featuring the achievements of The Royal Society and the Royal Institution of South Wales, now the “friends” of Swansea Museum, and a special “trail” for our younger visitors to explore and discover science in a fun way.
The Road Ahead 31 July to 2 January 2011 The 19th century saw the beginning of motoring and our new exhibition tells the story of the miles and the milestones on two and four wheels in this region. From ancient to modern, fossil fuels to green energy, racing to relaxation, travel to trade. Sir Stirling Moss, Ford Motor Company, BP Oil, and many other great names were here – now you can share those times.
Worn to be Wild 18 September to 24 December A vibrant exhibition of contemporary costumes by Kate Plumtree, costume maker and creative textile artist. The costumes are inspired by British wild birds and mammals, and the history of fashion. From a medieval deer to a contemporary hedgehog, they are presented alongside the artist’s sketchbooks, fabric samples and photographs.
In House Art 14 May to 18 July Swansea Museum presents a selling display of art and photography from combined – and artistically diverse - talents of members of the Museum staff, including Paul Giuffrida, Patricia Nicholls and Paul O’Donovan – three artists well known in the region, along with the lens work of Matthew Senior, a photographer of repute. All the work will be available for sale, to be collected at the close of the exhibition.
