Marina Guide Cruising For those wishing to sail locally our area covers the beautiful Gower coast. There are lovely sandy beaches to anchor off and clear waters for swimming and diving: perfect for sailing. Further afield, Ilfracombe is about 4 hours sail to the south, whilst to the south west lies Lundy Island, with Padstow and the North Cornish coast beyond. Sailing west along the South Wales coast will bring you to Tenby and then Milford Haven.
Marina Manners and Etiquette Customers are asked to please tie their halyards back from the mast to avoid unnecessary noise in this mixed environment. Please do not pump bilge water or contaminants into the Marina. Your assistance in these matters is greatly appreciated by the management and other boat owners. Please note that there is a speed limit of 4 knots and young children should be supervised at all times for safety.
Car Parking Berthholders and visitors may park in Northside pay and display car park. Also car parks adjacent to the bridgehead gates. Longstay car parking will be available within our boatyard throughout the summer months. Please ensure your car park permit is displayed clearly on the front windscreen, please note the “City & County Of Swansea” penalty notices cannot be cancelled if a valid permit is not displayed clearly on a vehicle. Permits are available from reception. Owners are reminded to secure their vehicles and remove any valuables when unattended.

Telephones A public payphone is situated close to the North side bridghead gate in phase 1.
Water Allow hose pipes to run for 30 seconds before filling tanks on the pontoons. Please recoil the hose pipes after use and do not leave the hose end in the water as this is unhygienic.
Diesel & Gas Diesel pumps are located on either side of the Marina Lock; diesel and gas bottle refills are available from 7.00am until half an hour before the office is closed. No petrol is available at the Marina but there is a commercial garage nearby.
Safety and Security Electricity Supplies All electricity supplies are protected by 16A Miniature Circuit Breakers and 30mA Residual Current Circuit Breakers. Electricity take off points are also available in the boat yard. Most electricity supplies are controlled by a computerised metered system on a pay as you go basis. Credit can be obtained at the Marina office or over the telephone using a credit/debit card. An instruction sheet for the system is available at the Marina office. Please see our price list for current charges.
Toilets and Showers There is 24 hour access to these facilities by use of a Marina pontoon security fob. They are located at three locations: • The rear (south) of Marina Control building. A toilet for the disabled is also located here. • Adjacent to the bridgehead on the North side of Phase I. • Adjacent to the bridgehead on the South side of Phase II. • Slop and sluice rooms are available in phase II of the Marina. A ship’s toilet may not be used whilst in the Marina.
Continuity of supply cannot be guaranteed due to the nature of the system and because of the safety devices fitted to each supply.
Security Each bridgehead has a self locking gate, access is via a pontoon security fob. Contact reception for these. There is a refundable deposit of £5.00 per fob, please retain your receipt. Please do not leave or prop the gates open; site security is in everyone’s interest. A security officer patrols the Marina at night and CCTV is in operation throughout the marina.

Fastnet lines are now running the Swansea Cork Ferry “Julia” from the rO – rO Terminal in the river Tawe, Upstream of the Dock entrance. The Sailing Schedule can be found on their website at www.fastnetline.com. Arrival and departure of the ferry requires manoeuvring to and from the terminal in extremely restricted waters. All vessels must keep absolutely clear of the ferry during these manoeuvres. The following broadcast will be made by the Ferry prior to arrival and departure on VHF Channel 14
Prior to departure:“All vessels, all vessels, all vessels Please be advised that the Ferry “Julia” is about to depart the “Swansea Ferry port”, swing off the lock bull nose, and proceed to sea via the Swansea Approach channel. All vessels keep clear. “
Prior to arrival:Prior to the approach to the “Outer green grounds buoy” inward, we transmit on Ch 14, “All vessels, all vessels, all vessels Please be advised that the Ferry “Julia” is proceeding inward via the Swansea Approach channel to the Swansea Ferry port, all vessels keep clear. “
Lock Operation
Swansea Docks All Marina users are reminded that we share the entrance to the river with the fairway for commercial shipping entering and leaving the port of Swansea. It is very important that all boat owners obey the rules laid down by the authorities and give way to commercial shipping at all times.
Entering and Leaving the Port All pleasure craft using the port must observe the rules governing the “Prevention of Collisions at Sea”, particularly when navigating within the dredged channel North of the S.W.I.G.G. buoy (South West Inner Green Grounds) to the harbour entrance. You are advised to approach the harbour entrance in the waters to the west of the dredged channel (where practicable). Large vessels entering or leaving the harbour must be given a wide berth at all times. All pleasure craft must be under power when in the vicinity of the harbour and should clear waters used by commercial shipping as soon as possible.

Blue Flag The Blue Flag is an exclusive ecolabel awarded to around 3100 beaches and marinas in 35 countries across Europe, South Africa, New Zealand, Canada and the Caribbean. The Blue Flag works towards sustainable development at beaches/marinas through strict criteria dealing with water quality, environmental education and information, environmental management and safety and other services.
The Blue Flag Campaign includes environmental education and information for the public, decision makers and tourism operators. Naturally Swansea Marina will be maintaining its high environmental standards and will be re-applying for the Blue Flag in 2011.
Gold Anchor Award The Gold Anchor Award Scheme has been established to improve the standards of facilities available to all boat owners. Marina Operators who are Members of the Yacht Harbour Association may enter the Scheme for assessment. The level of the Award ranges from three to five Gold Anchors. Any Award is a sign of a quality marina, whilst the number of anchors indicates the level of the facilities available.
The Scheme is purely voluntary and is designed to bring the industry to the forefront of boating and to encourage better standards. Swansea Marina was assessed under the Gold Anchor Award Scheme in 2010. We are pleased to inform you that as a result of our efforts to provide you with a first class and value for money facility, we were awarded five Gold Anchors.
More than a Marina... Swansea Marina has a unique combination of safe mooring facilities, wonderful sailing and enough activities to keep every crew member happy. Within a few minutes walk there are cinemas, theatres, restaurants, museums and a sandy beach. The town, which has a warm and friendly character all of its own, boasts a thriving market and
covered shopping centre both of which are within easy walking distance of our facilities. For those who enjoy walking and cycling there is the long promenade to the fishing village of Mumbles, still a magnet for visitors and gateway to the spectacular Gower peninsula. The latter offers coastal walks, sheltered bays and breathtaking scenery.
Locally, there are five golf courses to choose from and every kind of entertainment from quiet pubs to the town’s nightclubs which draw revellers from all over South Wales. Swansea is just a few minutes from junctions 42 to 47 of the M4 and at just two and a half hours from Birmingham or an hour and a quarter from Bristol is uniquely placed for access from the Midlands and the West. An hourly train service runs from Swansea to Paddington.
Many of our visitors have discovered the attractions of Swansea Marina as a release from long hours spent commuting to other sailing areas on the South Coast or the South West. Here you will be spoilt for choice of sailing area. Favourite day trips might be to Oxwich Bay, Three Cliffs or Ilfracombe – longer weekends or holidays might take in Tenby, Milford Haven, Padstow or Ireland. The wide sweep of Swansea Bay offers a safe and sandy playground for sailors where you can forget the overcrowded waters of other resorts for a quiet afternoon spent choosing a bay to drop anchor. If you prefer the thrill of competition, Mumbles Yacht Club offers
a full racing programme and we can contact them for you. Our travel hoist and boatyard are run by experienced personnel and our staff are always on hand to give friendly advice. Please ring or radio ahead so that we can advise you of any special local events, weather or locking conditions. We know that once you have visited us you will want to return! Be assured that the warmest welcome awaits you and that we will do everything we can to make your stay comfortable, memorable and an experience that everyone will look back on as ‘the good times we had.’
