A MAKER'S MOVEMENT GB Labels is a beautifully British weaving manufacturer based in Derbyshire. Comprised of a family team with 50 years of design heritage between them. The company has created woven labels and branding products for some of the biggest fashion houses in the world. The team has also worked on products for internationally renowned video games, sports cars and movies featuring Britain’s most famous spy and boy wizard! But over the last few years, GB Labels has noticed an amazing change in the types of businesses they work with.
Managing Director Peter Gregory says: “The conscious consumerism movement has changed the way we all shop. More than ever we’re working with small start ups, side hustlers and indie makers and designers. The media may claim that high street is dying or that British brands won’t succeed after all the political uncertainty we’ve experienced, but the fact is people have been inspired to ‘shop small’, and support independent brands. This isn’t a trend that’s going away and people want to know how something is made (and who by) so it’s actually a great time for creatives to sell their products.”
Through Instagram GB Labels has discovered hashtags such as #MakersMovement, #SmallBusinessSaturday and #JustACard, which prove the appetite is there for Britishmade goods and unique products made by real people rather than faceless big companies. It’s never been easier to support local brands and the small biz community therefore the future has never looked brighter for makers everywhere!
