The ride towards the makeshift war zone had my heart racing. It was my first-time paintballing and the stories of past injuries had prevented me from saying yes before. But today was different, this year I had promised myself I would be brave, I would take risks and do things I had never done before.

Allowing my fear to show but not letting it control me was the key to how I planned to make that year stand out from the rest. As we arrived on the site, my butterflies were raging but I wouldn't let them dictate what I did.

I signed the waiver and put on my gear, scoping who would be on my team. With my allies by my side and myself being COVERED in layers, I was ready, and so began the first round. Sounds of shooting were heard all around me as I saw people

fall one by one. holding their hands up in surrender. I held my gun tight, not firing once but scoping the area in sheer determination. A few of my fellow soldiers had stood beside me, expressing the horror of their guns being jammed in this dangerous environment.

Not soon after they marched forward towards the middle did, I see the enemy had come from behind a corner with their guns aimed straight at me.

It was over. Only having positioned myself a few feet in front of where we started the round, I accepted my defeat, and so ended my first round of paintball.
