Sadler’s Wells presents a rich and varied year-round programme of dance of every kind – from tango to hip hop, ballet, flamenco and cutting-edge contemporary dance, bringing the best of British and international dance to audiences at our London theatres. The Nordic region has a long and decorated history of dance and is home to some of the world’s oldest ballet companies and most exciting choreographers. This year Sadler’s Wells will bring together the best of these artists for a festival of Nordic dance in London. In autumn 2014 we will present the Northern Light Season, featuring dance from all five Nordic countries; Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. We invite you to share in this work with us by joining our Nordic Festival Supporters Circle.

A Special Opportunity Presenting international dance and large scale work in London is an expensive enterprise but one to which we are firmly committed. We are gathering together a small group of dance lovers to support our investment in the Northern Light Season by making a donation towards the Nordic Festival Supporters Circle. The combined support of the Circle will contribute to the vital funds necessary for Sadler’s Wells to bring Northern Light to London audiences. To thank you for your support we have planned some special events with the season’s artists and companies for Circle members, including a private reception with celebrated Swedish Choreographer Mats Ek.

Mette Ingvartsen The Artificial Nature Project 18 &19 September Platform Theatre Mette Ingvartsen is part of a generation of dance artists that considers choreography a tool to think about the world and our relationship to it. The Artificial Nature Project asks the question ‘what is the relationship between the animate and inanimate world?’ The outcome is a performance, in which materials fly through the air and a landscape that constantly transforms itself.

Cullberg Ballet Plateau Effect 13 & 14 November 2014 Sadler’s Wells Theatre Originally formed by pioneering choreographer and former Royal Ballet dancer Brigit Cullberg* in 1967, Cullberg Ballet has continued to evolve since its formation. Originally a company fusing ballet vocabulary with a contemporary style, it now presents contemporary dance with a distinctly Swedish flavour to audiences across the world. Choreographed by Jefta van Dinther, Plateau Effect will make its UK premiere in November 2014. The piece won Jefta the “The Dance Prize 2013" from the Swedish Association of Theatre Critics. Plateau Effect challenges audiences and creates an overwhelming world where dance, materials, sound and light each play an equal role. The dancers form a community that is constantly on the move as they progress through a series of disorienting and intriguing large-scale environments. * Birgit Cullberg was the mother of Mats Ek
