for the remainder of the term. See what each committee does and who the chairs are! Service Committee (Chair: Olivia Kurschat, North Mountain LtG) The Service Committee is responsible for providing service contribution goals and ideas for members throughout the district. This committee will work towards making our service initiatives a district-wide effort, and formulate a plan for clubs to be involved and engaged in the Governor’s Project, AIDSpirit USA.

Policies and Procedures Committee (Chair: Regan Anderson, Secretary/Treasurer) The purpose of this committee is to ensure that the Southwest District Bylaws and Policies are properly enforced. This committee will review the current District Bylaws and Policies, making sure that they are current, relevant, and properly written, and propose potential changes as necessary.

Growth and Communications Committee (Chair: Andrea Amavisca, Estrella LtG) This committee’s primary directive is to establish an effective communication system for the Southwest District. This committee will capitalize an outreach through communication, education, and by supplementing both new and existing resources to cater to the needs of our district.

SUMMER SERVICE

Summer is the perfect time to explore new service projects. Here are a bunch of suggestions to keep your members involved throughout these next few months!

• Hand out cold water bottles to the mail carrier, garbage collector, construction workers, and homeless. • Hold a lemonade stand for Alex’s Lemonade Stand, a charity to help raise money for childhood cancer. • Hand out popsicles or a refreshing beverage at the park. • Give away some cool breezes with some spray bottle fans. • Participate in a fan drive that donates fans to those who need one, particularly the elderly or just donate a couple of fans to people that need one. • For your favorite charity, donate a box of 4th of July party supplies. Provide streamers, blowers, and table decorations. • Create a game night for a local group home. Donate gently used board games and snacks. • Fill bags with bug spray, sunscreen, and sidewalk chalk. You can bring the bags to a park to give away or donate to a school, the teachers know

SEASONS OF SERVICE

ABOUT

“Our mission is simple: Build a socially-conscious generation of young people who END the global water crisis. We do this by educating students about it and activating them to rock the clean water cause & build real water projects all over the world. Why Water? Health and Sanitation: Waterborne diseases kill more children every single year than AIDS, Malaria, and all world violence combined. Small children typically do not have strong enough immune systems to fight diseases like cholera, dysentery, or schistosomiasis.”

\ Thirst Project is telling the world’s biggest Dirty Little Secret.

Fill up a water bottle full of dirty water. Carry the bottle around all month long. Carry it in school, at your desk, to lunch, in the gym, at the dinner table, keep it with you EVERYWHERE you go! When people ask why you have a bottle filled with dirty water, tell them that 748 million people do not have access to safe, clean drinking water.
