Denize and Filip have it all prepared: the crib, the pram, the tiny clothes, even the car seat is ready for the baby they’re expecting any day. But at a routine checkup, the midwife’s face suddenly freezes. There’s no heartbeat to be heard. After Inez is a film about how to survive grief. It explores individual differences in mourning, as well as gender patterns and taboos in our society.

Erik Holmström is the founder of Malmö Dockteater, a puppet playhouse in Malmö, Sweden. He was artistic director at Turteatern in Stockholm 2008-2013 and is at the moment working as a director at Dramaten, The Royal Dramatic Theatre in Stockholm. Fredrik Wenzel is a director, screenwriter and cinematographer. Scriptwriter and cinematographer for Falkenberg Farewell with Jesper Ganslandt in 2006. Director, scriptwriter and cinematographer for Burrowing with Henrik Hellström in 2009. He also worked with Ruben Östlund as cinematographer for both Force Majeure (2014) and The Square (2017).

southern Sweden. After studying photography he began working as a cameraman and film editor in Scandinavia. From 1995 to 2001 he studied directing at the German Academy of Film & Television (dffb) in Berlin. Since his graduation he has been working as a filmmaker and cinematographer in Germany, Sweden and Switzerland.

The Deminer

Hogir Hirori was born 1980 in Dahouk, Iraq. In 1999, he fled to Sweden and lives since then in Stockholm. He works as a freelance photographer, editor and director. He runs his own production company Lolav Media. Hoger’s most recent documentary, The Girl Who Saved My Life had its world premiere at the Göteborg Film Festival 2016, where it received The Angelos Award for Best Swedish Feature. Shinwar Kamal lives in Dahouk (Iraq) and works in the field of media and cinema.

In 2003 Fakhir, the father of eight children, goes on a military mission to Mosul (Iraq) to fight against the terror after the fall of Saddam Hussein. When he sees how thousands of innocent people are struck by exploding mines he decides to become a deminer. With just a simple knife and a pair of clippers he manages to disarm thousands of mines, a task that could cost him his life every second but that does not make him stop. Fakhir’s ambition is greater than that and he knows that innocent people need his help.

Juck

Juck is a 17-minute film which is a hybrid between documentary, dance and fiction. The film depicts the all female dance group JUCK who made a name for themselves in 2013 with a video that became a viral hit all over the world. The word ”juck” is Swedish for ”hump” and their groundbreaking appearance pushed the boundaries for how we are used to seeing the female body. JUCK questions the positions of object and subject. They provoke, inspire and break norms. The film poses the question: what is femininity?

specialized in documentaries and in collective collaborations. She seeks to re-write the role of women in history to create a greater diversity of female representations. She is currently involved in projects like Silvana (2017) and Juck. Julia Gumpert is an actor specialized in physical expression. She has experience from film as well as performing arts, in both creating and performing. Her aim is to contribute with stories that empower equality and solidarity. Ulrika Bandeira is a Swedish producer and creator of cultural events within the field of film and performing arts. Juck is her first film.

Letters to a Serial Killer On his way to soccer practice, 16-year-old Kamal is shot five times. The police and the media immediately start speculating about gang related violence and retaliation. Within Kamal’s own family questions are asked. What had Kamal done for someone to want to shoot him? Years pass without answers. The family’s concerns and the rifts between them begin to grow. Then one day the police calls to inform that a suspect has been arrested. His name is Peter Mangs, a serial killer who has shot a number of immigrants in Malmö. Kamal’s sister, Manal Masri, decides to find out what really happened that November evening. In order to get a final answer she writes him a letter.

Loving Lorna

There has always been a strong horse culture in Ballymun, outside of Dublin. Lorna and her family are a part of it, and it has helped them through tough times. Lorna has a dream to become a farrier and she’s practising during her last summer holiday. However, things might not turn out as planned. This is a poetic coming-of-age film, a story of survival, relationships, horses and dreams.

Annika and Jessica Karlsson (sisters born in 1984) directed and produced the short documentary Taxidancing (2012), which was screened at Tempo Documentary Festival 2012 and GĂśteborg Film Festival. Loving Lorna was selected by the European Documentary Network as one of the Nordic film projects in their programme Twelve for the Future in 2013/2014.

A devastated city with no food, fuel, water, no place to bury the dead and nowhere to treat the wounded. After months of suffocating siege and daily bombings on the city of Aleppo people express their hope through small endeavours such as a group of kids painting ruins as a game. It shows stories of people trying to have a normal day in a place where more than 280,000 civilians languish under a siege imposed by the Syrian regime and Russian forces, cutting off supplies and keeping daily bombings.

A group of young women from the outskirts of Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso, meet at the feminist education centre to study to become car mechanics. Ouaga Girls is a coming-of-age story of sisterhood, life choices, and the strive of finding your own path.

The Raft

Marcus Lindeen made his debut with the documentary feature Regretters (2011), which won Prix Europa for Best European Documentary in Berlin and the Guldbagge Award for Best Swedish Documentary in 2011. His second film was a fiction feature, Glorious Accidents, that premiered and got awarded at the Venice Film Festival 2011. In January 2017 he presented The Raft as an art installation at The Centre Pompidou in Paris.

In 1973, five men and six women drifted across the Atlantic on a raft as part of a scientific experiment studying the sociology of violence, aggression and sexual ­attraction in human behavior. Although the project became known in the press as “The Sex Raft”, nobody expected what ultimately took place on that three month journey. Through extraordinary archive material and a reunion of the surviving members of the expedition on a full scale replica of the raft, this film tells the hidden story behind what has been described as “one of the strangest group experiments of all time.”

The Rebel Surgeon

In Erik Gandini’s recent documentary The Swedish Theory of Love (2015) there is a character who stands out, the surgeon Erik Erichsen, who got tired of Swedish bureaucracy and moved to Ethiopia. In a small field hospital, with limited resources, he uses anything at hand to help the patients. The Rebel Surgeon premiered at CPH:DOX 2017 and won the Audience Award at Krakow Film Festival.

Erik Gandini (born in 1967) is a Swedish-Italian film director, writer, and producer. Some of his international award-winning documentaries include Sacrificio – Who Betrayed Che Guevara? (2001) and Gitmo (2006) both co-directed with Tarik Saleh, and the widely acclaimed Surplus – Terrorized Into Being Consumers (2003), Videocracy (2009), The Swedish Theory of Love (2015) and Cosmopolitanism (2016).

Shapeshifters

Sophie Vuković (born 1988 in Zagreb) has a degree in social anthropology from the University of Edinburgh. Her short film 09:55–11:05, Ingrid Ekman (2015) was nominated for and won several prizes at international festivals like SXSW, Slamdance, Mezipatra Queer Film Festival, Mix Copenhagen LGBT Film Festival and Stockholm International Film Festival.

Devoted to the Iranian Revolution, photographer Saeid documented the Iran-Iraq War (1980–1988) from the eye of the event. His dream was to be a martyr, and many of his photos were used to create war propaganda for martyrdom. Today he views himself as being responsible for sending thousands of boys to their graves. A film about war propaganda, manipulation and control.

That Summer

That Summer is a feature-length documentary centered on the film project Peter Beard initiated together with Lee Radziwill in the summer of 1972, about her extraordinary relatives, the Bouvier Beales featured in the classic documentary Grey Gardens (1975). Lost for decades, this stunning footage re-emerges in Göran Hugo Olsson’s documentary, which focuses on Peter and his family of friends who formed a vibrant creative ­community in Montauk, Long Island in the 70’s.

Göran Hugo Olsson is the founder of production company Story. His films include The Black Power Mixtape 1967–1975 (2011) and Concerning Violence (2014), awarded at Sundance and Berlinale.
