BLOGGING, FACEBOOK & TWITTER TOP TIPs • Think about what your ‘value proposition’ is for getting people to like/follow you. For example, you could commit to posting details of all the events and news that law students will be interested in at your university, as well as offering to reply to anyone in need of Westlaw UK assistance within a certain time. • You can link your Westlaw UK page to your personal profile, and like/share posts you make on your Westlaw UK page to your personal profile for extra visibility and awareness. • Share/like as much as possible from the main Westlaw UK Students Page and twitter feed - for example new podcasts, articles or Westlaw UK Workout schedules will all be of interest to your audience. • Use contests and incentives to get students to join up. • If you post something of global interest, we’ll share/retweet it on the Westlaw UK Student Page.
Writing a Blog Post You have a login to uklawstudent.thomsonreuters.com so that you can login and write your own blog post. Once approved, it will appear on the live site and you can post it, email it and tweet it to anyone you like! Ideas for blog posts: • If you’ve found that students are repeatedly having the same problems on Westlaw UK, you could write a mini walkthrough/how-to for them to follow.
• Anything careers related is very popular, for example your experiences finding mini-pupillages or internships.
• Top tips, scenarios, recent cases - anything you think will be useful for law students across the UK and the world!

BEYOND CLINICS: ON-SITE SESSIONS WITH YOUR ACADEMIC TRAINER Booking training sessions with the Academic Trainer is a great way to promote the service and to collect Student Rep points. However, please note that you will need to guarantee a minimum of 25 students in each session to book an on-site training session. Here are a few steps that you should take when booking the sessions.
• Decide an appropriate time to have the training. Take deadlines for PLR’s, assignments and dissertations into consideration
Step 1 • Get in touch with the Academic Trainer to book a training date & to arrange the type of training (Basic/Certification)
Step 2 • Contact your Librarian to tell them about the training. Also ask about room bookings
Step 3
Step 4
• Book an appropriate training room. Should have good capacity (max 30 for computer room) & a projector, individual PCs for certification sessions & internet connection • Print out a sign-up sheet or send electronically. Allow for no shows and cancellations so book more than capacity (e.g 40 students for a 30 capacity room)
Step 5 • Advertise the sessions using the Westlaw UK & Lawtel posters & template emails provided. Put them up in as many public spaces as possible
Step 6 • Email Trainer training details (address for university, room booking, number of students signed up and where, when & who to meet on the day)
Step 7 • On the day make sure security/library staff know the trainer is coming. Also have IT support/helpdesk details on hand
Step 8 • Get points for arranging the training (total number of students on the day should exceed 20)
Step 9
