PRESS RELEASE – Sweet As Social Media (Charitable Trust) Youth Event (Thursday July 7 , 330pm-8pm)

In 2009, we had more deaths in NZ from suicide than we did from road accidents; with among the highest rates of youth suicide in the OECD, we are also in the top ranked countries for bullying related issues in schools-we want to share some love! Sweet As Social Media with the amazing help of a variety of organizations, groups & individuals will be coming together to remind youth to have hope and dream big. We will also be celebrating the release of our online parenting magazine, “Virtual Realities” and drawing awareness to youth suicide by remembering those we have lost by launching memorial paper boats at sunset & ask others globally to do the same in a water way near them at sunset on the 7th of July. In true Grahame Maher style, we are planning to celebrate what would have been his 52nd birthday, doing what he himself did best, have some fun! With the aims of building awareness of the significance and relevance of cyber bullying & anti-social behavior online for youth, we plan to “stir a bit of shit” and connect people who could help each other, doing it all in the name of a good cause of course! We want to give those youth who need it, some hope and support them by coming together to do something cool for themselves & others! Locally, will be launching boats into the harbor at sunset (approx. 17:27) but we are hoping others will come down to show their support for the cause as we deconstruct & minimise the bullying issue online & proactively promote empathy among youth at Shed 21, Princes’ Wharf in the Viaduct from between 330pm and 8pm on Thursday the 7th of July.
