COMMUNITY SPEED WATCH UPDATE For many years Seamer Parish Council have tried to address residents’ concerns over vehicles speeding through the village. Now, North Yorkshire Police have introduced the Community Speed Watch scheme which allows residents to monitor vehicle speeds through their villages. The Parish Council have joined the scheme in another attempt to address the perceived problem of speeding vehicles. Training for volunteers has started and should be completed in the next few weeks. The first location for CSW will be on Hilton Road which has been assessed as a safe and suitable location. Other locations highlighted as having problems, The Green, Seamer and Stokesley Road in Tame Bridge do not have the amount of required data to be part of the scheme at present. At our request, the police will be deployed over the next few months in these locations to monitor the traffic. Residents can help by complaining about speeding vehicles via the Parish Council. The complaints will be forwarded to the CSW coordinator at North Yorkshire police. A handheld speed gun, similar to those used by the police will be used to monitor the speed of vehicles and those travelling at 35mph and above will be reported. There will be three outcomes for drivers noted exceeding this limit: 1. A letter informing them that the speed limit has been breached and suitable advice given. 2. For being caught again, a more strongly worded letter stating that more serious consequences will ensue should there be further breaches of the speed limit. 7

3.

Should further speeding breaches occur, a visit by the police to the driver’s home address and possible legal action might follow.

Please note, that once a vehicle is on the police’s system, a speed limit breach anywhere in North Yorkshire could result in outcomes 2 or 3 above. You are urged to support this initiative which we hope will help address the longstanding problem of vehicles exceeding the speed limit through the village. Should any resident wish to volunteer to assist with the CSW then please contact the Parish Council.

THE GLOBE (Community Library@Stokesley) Stokesley Parish Council have now taken over the running and financing of the library from North Yorkshire County Council with the help of an employed professional librarian to support the many trained volunteers. Seamer Parish Council are supporting this community initiative and would urge Seamer residents to make use of this valuable facility. The Parish Council have donated £500 from the Community Fund to assist with start- up costs which I am certain will be overwhelmingly supported by residents. Further funding is a levy of 2% of the precept, which has been agreed by most village parish councils surrounding Stokesley. For Seamer this amount is about £80. Please give them your support. The Globe’s normal opening hours will be: Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays — 2pm - 5pm Fridays — 10am - 4pm Saturdays — 9:30am - 1:30 pm

SEAMER VILLAGE POND Probably everyone has seen by now that we have already launched one of our new executive nesting houses . There has already been a very gracious offer of another two houses for next spring. In the meantime, let's just hope the wildlife take to their upgraded accommodation. Also, keep a look out, we should be getting sight of some of the Aquatic plants that were planted last year. Cheers. Gill Burton

DEFIBRILLATOR FOR SEAMER A Defibrillator can save lives and we will soon have one in Seamer outside the Village Hall paid from the Seamer Windfarm Community Fund. It will be quite simple to use but very effective in saving lives prior to an ambulance arriving. 8

In an emergency the user must first dial 999. The operator will then give advice on whether it is needed and then, if required, provide the code to unlock the cabinet. The defibrillator machine, and with the help of the 999 operator, will guide the user through the procedure. Let’s hope, however, we never need to use it!! Christine Campy

SEAMER METHODIST CHURCH EASTER SUNDAY If you look at the times of worship below you will observe that our Easter Sunday Worship is at 9am that week. This enables our minister Rev Lisa Quarmby to fit in three services that day. Easter is one of the most significant days in the whole of the Christian calendar. It is the day that celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. Good Friday marks the day of the crucifixion of Jesus, following which the body of Jesus was placed in a tomb. Three days later visitors to the burial place realised that something miraculous had happened. In 1965 a pop group - The Animals - sang ‘We gotta get out of this place.., there’s a better life’. Christians believe that Jesus broke out of the tomb to release everyone into a new way of living. One of the promises that Jesus made was ‘I have come to bring life, and life in all its fullness’. Sometimes, in our lives, we feel that we need to break out of ‘tombs’ that appear to confine us. Some of these include circumstances, prejudices, fears, doubts, uncertainties, addictions, broken relationships, to name but a few. The risen Jesus promises to be with us in all of life’s circumstances. The promise is not always that these issues will go away but that we have a risen Saviour in Jesus with us no matter what life throws at us be it good, bad or ugly. May the Risen Jesus bring real hope into our lives this Eastertide. TIMES OF WORSHIP 02/04/2017 @ 10.30 am led by Tim and Molly Locke 09/04/2017 @ 10.30 am ALL AGE WORSHIP led by Rev Andrew Robinson 16/04/2017 @ 9.00 am EASTER SUNDAY led by Rev Lisa Quarmby 23/04/2017 @ 10.30 am Led by Katherine Atha 30/04/2017 @ 10.30 am led by Peter Jackson 07/05/2017 @ 10.30 am led by Vanessa Johnson 14/05/2017 @ 10.30 am ALL AGE WORSHIP led by Rev Lisa Quarmby 21/05/2017 @ 10.30 am led by Ken Hudson 28/05/2017 @ 10.30 am led by Rev Trevor Haigh TIME FOR A SMILE So I was getting into my car, and this bloke says to me, ‘Can you give me a 9

lift?’ I said, ‘Sure – you look great, the worlds your oyster, go for it.’ (Tommy Cooper) THOUGHT FOR THE MONTH See God’s salvation plan, wrought in love, borne in pain, paid in sacrifice, filled in Christ the Man, for he lives: Christ is risen from the dead! A happy Easter to all. Christ is risen; Alleluia
