EDITOR’S NOTES
Hello everyone! Looking forward to Christmas? Well you will have to wait until the next Grapevine to get the latest news of what events will be happening in Seamer. COVID is still having an effect on planning so I have decided to produce a smaller edition for November and then another one for December. That will need to be done by the 27th November so contributions should be with me by the 24th November. Remember I only put in what you send me (apart from my own contribution!!!). I do not know everything that is planned until someone tells me all the details. So if you want people to know what’s on tell me!!! Thanks Dave Campy

VILLAGE HALL NEWS AND EVENTS MCMILLAN COFFEE MORNING We would like to thank everyone for their support and help with the Macmillan coffee morning. First of all we would like to thank everyone who worked so hard on the day serving the coffee and cakes and for washing a mountain of dishes. We had some wonderful tombola prizes donated and lots of beautiful homemade cakes and scones given so generously. Thanks to Kay, Ann and Gill for looking after the tombola, produce and guess the weight of the cake stalls and to David, Dave, Christine and June for their help setting up the hall and clearing everything away afterwards. To everyone who came to enjoy the tea, coffee and cakes and also those who couldn’t make it, thank you for donating so generously. With all your support we raised £674 including gift aid and it was lovely to see the hall full of people enjoying themselves once more. Joan and Christine

A vacancy has arisen for a Parish Councillor in the parish of Seamer. If you would be interested in serving the community and having an impact on local affairs; continuing to maintain and create a pleasant environment for residents, then this could be the role for you! SEAMER PARISH COUNCIL UPDATE The July meeting of the Parish Council was held at Seamer Memorial Hall. Stokesley Town Hall. Several members of the public were in attendance. The police also attended. Within the main meeting agenda, several planning applications were reported. Village maintenance issues were discussed. The acting Chairman gave a further update on flooding at Tame Bridge and unexpected water usage at the village pond which had precipitated an unexpected invoice. Graham’s engineering works was demolished in preparation for construction of a house with another proposed at the old smithy, to be renovated. It was noted that no response had been forthcoming from the County Council to replace a 30mph road sign in Tanton Road; that existing signage had been cleaned; other signs replaced and more had been ordered for Bank Top/Top Green that would be erected soon. At Croft Hills, Tame Bridge, it was understood that spraying would take place soon. The Chairman reported that Speed Watch deployments had restarted with 23 Speed Watches having taken place since the last report. In addition, there had been progress with the VAS, with funding awarded. £500 had been donated from the Community Fund to Stokesley library and defibrillator pads had been replaced. Cllr Murphy reported that the Village Hall Committee AGM took place in July, but only seven people attended. The bank balance was £19,000, which may help to fund roof works on the hall roof and lean to, which was planned. Annual accounts needed to be advertised and circulated to appropriate persons. There was no progress yet on revision of constitution. It was 5

SEAMER METHODIST CHURCH DOROTHY BAINBRIDGE RIP The funeral of Dorothy took place at Seamer Methodist Church on Wednesday 27th October and was attended by over 50 people. Dorothy was an attendee at both Seamer Methodist and St Martins and will be remembered by most Seamer residents as being “the Lady who could thumb a lift from anyone”!! A dear lady who will be sorely missed by family and friends and our prayers and condolences go out to them.

Our trusty Speed Watch volunteers are continuing to monitor drivers passing through our village, in an effort to spread the message to please keep to 30mph. We see around 200 vehicles an hour making their way through Seamer, and up to 300 at rush hour. For the most part they are responsible, sensible drivers but 10 per cent are simply going too fast. This year we have seen one motorist doing 69mph, and nobody could condone that. Community Speed Watch is an educational scheme run in partnership with the police to improve the quality of life in villages and contribute directly to saving lives. We aim to raise awareness of the dangers of speeding and help control this problem locally. Many other villages have volunteers doing exactly the same thing. North Yorkshire Police carefully monitors the data we collect on the cars that are going too fast, and give advice to the drivers. If they identify an extreme or persistent offender, they can take enforcement measures. Fancy helping? There is always room on our rota for a few more volunteers, especially now as two of our number recently moved out of the village. So if you can spare an hour or two a week to help keep Seamer safe, why not give it a try? Simple training is given, and volunteers pick it up in no time. You get some fresh air and a chance to catch up with your neighbours while doing something useful for your community. We look forward to hearing from you. OIL CLUB Our last orders were complete just before the large price rise of around 10p per litre consequently the people who bought then got a very good deal. Due to the rise in Gas and Electricity prices, I think we have to resign ourselves to higher oil prices in the near future; however we will strive to get the best deal we can. Order dates:1st weeks in January, March, May, September, November. Contacts David Ward 01642 710333 or Gordon Reed 01642 711495 7
