the warm springs community center is an adaptive reuse of the historic warm springs plunge building that provides and interesting muse of a library and a year round farmers market. historical preservation of the site was approached through a progressive design language that contrasts the new construction against the old. the historical significance of the site being a gateway into a destination was expressed through the design, which resulted in a dynamic space that the user would identify the presence of both the gateway and the destination.

the operable + interactive rain screen is a solution to the static characteristics of the typical rain screen system. after extensive design research on pohl rain screens, the design of the operable + interactive rain screen was based off of generic pohl rain screen elements. , which would result in low cost + customization. the new detailing and approach of these standard pohl system elements resulted in a panel that could be removed/replaced by the user of the space, or move harmoniously with an operable sash element. by providing an operable rain screen, building’s skin can be easily removed and replaced with various differnt panel types , which would provide an added degree of expression for the user of the space.

the enlightenment of education is an unexplainable gift that every student encounters in their educational endeavors. this enlightenment is expressed through the formality of the space which was created by the two dominant sun angles that cross the site at the beginning and ending of each day. as a student begins and ends their day, they are always reminded of this enlightenment by the way the sun interact with the space due to its formality.

the roundhouse brewpub is an adaptive reuse of an old service bay of the historic roundhouse that is located in evanston, wy. through multiple tours of local breweries, an understanding of the brewing process was achieved. the concept of the design was the importance of the brewing equipment and the strenuous process of beer making. the programmatic element’s formality was dictated by the brewing lines and equipment. throughout the design process, building codes and leed analysis were performed in order to refine the overall design of the space to accommodate these important elements.

the flying object was designed and created after rigorous study and exploration of the hang glider, and its unique flight mechanics. after multiple diagrammatic studies, the necessity of the profile of the glider in cross section was the most important element that made gliders fly. to successfully represent the importance of the cross section of a glider, this common profile became the dominant element in the abstracted form. during multiple test flights, the overall weight and longitudinal shape was altered until the object successfully glided.

the necessity of accurate study models are crucial in order to convey the idea of a design. throughout various design processes , multiple lighting, color, and materiality studies were performed through the use of 3d modeling + rendering software. the production of these studies were used to make critical design decisions and were also used for various presentations and proposals.
