Some engine care and maintenance tips are provided below for the car owners to get best performance from their vehicle. Engine cleaning Engine has several small and large components which need to be cleaned at different intervals. Cleaning engine not only protects it from overheating problems but also improves its performance on the roads. Battery service Battery produces hydrogen gas which is explosive. Keep it away from sparks, flame etc. Before charging it, you should place it in a well-ventilated space. Battery electrolyte consists of sulfuric acid that can cause serious burns to the clothing, skins and eyes if contact is made. You should always wear eye protection when working with battery. Battery should be secured in a battery tray, box or similar device. Lubricating cables and linkage Engine cables and linkages should be lubricated for smooth operations and better performance as lubrication decreases the chance of binding and premature wear. Linkages like throttle linkage, governor linkage etc., can be oiled by spraying them with an apt lubricant. Spark plug service Spark plug is a vital component of the internal combustion engine that needs to be kept in good condition for optimal performance. The electrodes of the spark plug should be cleaned and sharpened to make a powerful spark which is necessary for ignition. A damaged or worn out spark plug will make improper firing, resulting in inconsistent performance. If you find faulty spark plugs and wires, replace them with fresh ones. Replacing dirty engine oil Pouring fresh oil into the crankcase not only enhances engine’s performance but also lubricates the moving parts of the engine. Gradually, dirt particles, heat and agitated air in the crankcase make the engine oil dirty. Dirty oil loses its ability to protect the moving parts of the engine.
