Swift Summer Explorations What a Wonderful World Summer is a wonderful time for all learners to be involved in new opportunities, while participating in academic experiences integrated with challenging, interest provoking activities that will whet their appetites for new things. Students can come and explore the wonderful world of reading, writing and fun offered at Swift School for three weeks in July. Additionally, summer is a great time for establishing, maintaining, and enhancing skills and concepts taught during the academic year. Swift Summer program benefits all students grades 1 – 8. Although the Orton-Gillingham approach provides language instruction for dyslexic students, Swift School believes that the Orton-Gillingham methodology is simply best teaching practices for all students. Students new to Swift benefit from the summer experience as they become familiar with our style of classroom instruction, faculty and campus. Through participation in the summer program, new friendships with both Swift students and students from other schools in the area will develop. Therefore, all students new to Swift School are required to participate. Swift faculty is comprised of certified educators, who have been OrtonGillingham trained and will provide a robust program of language instruction for each of your children. As part of the Swift School vision, our goal is to help all students reach their potential. Summer is a great time to reach for the stars in exploring each child’s true strengths and potential achievements. Taking part in improving reading, writing and language skills is complemented within the daily schedule, which provides hands on activities in art, drama, Steam/Stem classes, crafts and amazing science experiments.

FLYING IN FORMATION
8:30 A.M. - 12:30 P.M. l RISING 3RD - 6TH Grade three is a turning point in a learner’s life. Thinking becomes more abstract, ideas and concepts presented to the student are more complex and more time and practice are required to conquer material presented. No longer are students learning to read; rather, they are reading to learn which, requires a very different skill set. Time is provided throughout the day in our summer program to allow third grade students to develop competency in this type of thinking, while practicing their language skills. Recognizing that these newer academic skills can be overwhelming to a student, the day is interspersed with multi-sensory experiences that allow the student to process information, while enjoying those areas in which the learners have already shown competency. Upon completion of the Swift summer program, students should find themselves well prepared to enter into a new school year with skills and concepts intact and a renewed love of learning. LANDING ON SOLID GROUND RISING 4TH - 5TH
Fourth and fifth grade students want to know “WHY”. During the school year, many of those “why” questions remain unanswered because there is much content to learn. Summer is a fine time for those questions to be answered for inquisitive learners. Students will travel the globe, while finding answers to many of their questions. Learners will be exposed to literature from other countries as they learn about the cultures and traditions of each location they read about. These readings will provide them an opportunity to continue expanding their knowledge and use of Orton-Gillingham techniques and strategies through comprehension instruction. Focused academic experiences are interspersed with exciting, multi-sensory activities which make the daily program fun-filled and dynamic. Upon completion of the Swift summer program, students should find themselves well prepared to enter into a new school year with skills and concepts intact and a renewed love of learning.
