Todd Schmitz is at the helm of the Colorado Stars, and this summer he’s working with Kara Lynn Joyce and Missy Franklin as they prepare for this month’s World Championships. The two have been training well together, and Schmitz said both motivate each other daily in workout. Schmitz also talks about his goals as a coach, which will depend on the growth of the stars in 2012 and the performances of his swimmers at the U.S. Olympic Trials. Franklin has been swimming fast all season, which Schmitz said is part of their plan to get her on relays in Shanghai. Watch this interview from June 15 to learn more about Schmitz’s coaching philosophy on deck and how Joyce became a part of the Colorado Stars. Watch this episode here:

A few weeks after officially taking over as head coach at the University of Arizona, Eric Hansen talked in this May 25 interview about his goals in keeping the Wildcat legacy alive. He made big changes not only in his coaching staff, but in the way they work on and off deck. This, he said, will allow coaches to be coaches more than administrators. As far as his swimmers in the pool, he is excited to work with a young women’s team, an experienced men’s team and a large crop of postgraduate swimmers that will require many hours on deck, but could become ultimately rewarding. In the end, he said he’s happy to be back in Tucson, where he swam as one of the few postgraduate swimmers in the 1990s. Watch this episode here:

Highlights of Recent Guests • Troy Dumais is focused on winning a medal at the World Championships and Olympics, and he talks about how he’s preparing mentally and physically in this May 30 interview. http://tv.swimmingworldmagazine.com/ shows/the-morning-swim-show/morningswim-show-episodes/11288 • French Olympian Clement Lefert weighs his options concerning the 2012 French Olympic Trials and NCAA Championships in this June 1 interview. http://tv.swimmingworldmagazine.com/ shows/the-morning-swim-show/morningswim-show-episodes/11292 • Greg Pearsall and Eugene Godsoe have combined their musical talents and formed a band. They talk about this venture in their June 6 interview. http://tv.swimmingworldmagazine.com/ events/2011-usa-paralympics-canamchampionships/interviews/11302 • Elizabeth Beisel looks back on her freshman year at the University of Florida and talks about her preparation for the World Championships in this June 14 interview. http://tv.swimmingworldmagazine. com/shows/the-morning-swim-show/ morning-swim-show-episodes/11314

THE RESULTS OF A RECENT POLL ON ERIC RESS’ CONFLICT BETWEEN THE 2012 MEN’S NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS AND THE FRENCH OLYMPIC TRIALS THE MAJORITY OF VOTERS SAID “HE SHOULD SKIP THE NCAA’S AND SWIM AT THE FRENCH OLYMPIC TRIALS.”

Recent Performance of the Week Award Winners In May, Jasmine Tosky broke Misty Hyman’s 15-year-old national high school record in the 100 yard butterfly with a 51.92. Tosky swam the race during the prelims of the CIF Central Coast Section Championships, then returned in finals to post the second-fastest high school time in history with a 52.20. Watch the full Performance of the Week segment from May 24 here: http://tv.swimmingworldmagazine.com/shows/performance-ofthe-week/performance-of-the-week-episodes/11139 Ryosuke Irie has been the most consistent backstroker of 2011, swimming the 200 back in the 1:54-range five times, while no one else in the world has yet cracked 1:56! Irie’s fourth and fifth swims under 1:55 were done at the last two stops of the Mare Nostrum tour in June.
