iPHONE 5C OPEN AND SHUT CASE

hough still not officially announced, evidence of Apple’s low-cost iPhone continues to mount. First of all more images of the low-cost iPhone case were leaked showing the rear of the shell, complete with Apple logo and legal notices. DetroitBORG even posted a video of the case being shown off. >
We’ve also had images of the packaging leaked. The plastic boxes, piled in a container, are labeled as iPhone 5C – possibly a reference to ‘color’ as the cheap iPhone is expected to come in a range of shades, or maybe ‘cheap’, or ‘cut-price’. Alhough that doesn’t sound very ‘Apple’. This image has been debunked a fake due to distortion of the logos, but whose to say whether these were poor-quality boxes on their way to the recycling bin? > iPhone 5C packaging or Photoshop retouching?
The activist group China Labor Watch mentioned Apple’s low-cost phone in its report on working practices at Pegatron. One interviewee even described the process of adding protective film to the cases to stop them from being scratched. Tim Cook has also visited China again, reportedly in discussions with China Telecom and China Mobile. Industry pundits suggest Asia is where the new low-cost iPhone will make its debut.

And finally, case maker Elago has surfaced on Amazon.com selling cases for the iPhone 5C. It’s not unknown for case manufacturers to jump the gun with their designs, and the form of this case certainly matches all the other details of the ‘iPhone 5C’ we’ve seen so far.
Even Case makers seem convinced a curvy iPhone 5C is on its way

NOTE TAKERS Replace Apple’s default apps with our pick of the best alternatives
T
he iPhone’s built-in Notes app is one of the simplest on iOS, but it’s also very useful. Rather than scribbling important notes on envelopes, your hand, or, on rare occasions, other people’s hands, Notes gives you a simple repository for fleeting thoughts and important nuggets of information. >
Notes, with its fake notepaper, is not the prettiest app in the world
When considering alternatives, it’s important to look at what Notes does well. It’s straightforward, and your notes automatically sync via iCloud. Also, you can share your notes via email, message or copy and paste. From an aesthetic standpoint, Apple’s effort is less successful, but as of iOS 7, Notes will lose the yellow paper and cartoon-ish text, instead presenting notes as dark gray Helvetica on a white paper texture. > Settings are limited to a few font choices and a default sync account

ollowing on from the last issue, we continue our look at the history of the iPhone, which recently passed its six-year anniversary. In March of 2011, Apple announced that it had sold 100 million iPhones and had paid $2 billion to developers via the App Store. The phenomenal growth of the >

App Store also had a direct effect on Apple’s direction. While Steve Jobs was in charge the company always took a dim view of gaming; it was something to be endured but not encouraged. Then, with the advent of the App Store and the accompanying avalanche of gaming apps, Apple suddenly found itself to be the biggest distributor of videogames on the planet, and manufacturer of the world’s most popular handheld gaming device in the iPod touch.
Gaming takes over
Unsurprisingly, Apple’s view of gaming has softened of late, with the forthcoming update to iOS including support for dedicated controllers and various new tools for game developers. >
The iPhone 4S debuted on October 4 2011, bringing iOS 5.0 and introducing the world to Siri, Apple’s voice-recognition software, plus iCloud. However, the lack of show-stopping features or a new form factor meant the 4S received a lukewarm reception – basically, it wasn’t the ‘iPhone 5’ everyone was expecting. Wall Street analysts called it “mildly disappointing”, citing the lack of 4G support, and Apple stock actually fell. > Image © BeauGiles

F
ollowing on from the first part of our AirPrint How-To, this issue we show you how you can print through your computer using some software, as well as pointing out some apps that are available on the App Store. >
Print via a PC IF YOU’VE A Windows PC but no AirPrint printer, go to collobos.com, scroll down, and click Download Now under Home. The Presto set-up wizard will then download. Install the app on your PC in the usual manner. Note that this version is free for home use. >
