About Heaven Fragments du paradis

Stéphane Goël

Switzerland Documentary, 2015, 85 min. Original language: French World premiere Production: Climage, Lausanne RTS Radio Télévision Suisse World Rights: Climage, Lausanne T +41 21 648 35 61 www.climage.ch

Switzerland is often perceived as heaven on earth. But do its inhabitants believe in heaven? Believers, agnostics and atheists all feel the need for a narrative when confronting death. What is left of paradise, which once promised eternal happiness? Encountering people in the twilight of their years, this film offers a moving, offbeat and personal quest within the depictions of this place common to all of humanity, faced with hope and shared doubt.

7

* 1965 in Lausanne. Stéphane Goël studied documentary filmmaking at Global Village Experimental Center in New York and collaborated with artists like Nam June Park and Shigeko Kubota. He directed several artistic and experimental videos before moving to documentaries. In 1985 he joined the producer's association Climage. ABOUT HEAVEN is his third feature documentary to premiere at the Festival del film Locarno.

Le Bois dont les rêves sont faits

Claire Simon

* 1955 in London. Caire Simon is a French scriptwriter, actress, cinematographer, editor and director. She studied "direct cinema" with the Ateliers Varan and made several documentaries, which garnered multiple awards. Her first two fiction films, SINON, OUI (1997) and the Swiss coproduction ÇA BRÛLE (2006) were both presented in Cannes. Her latest film GARE DU NORD (2013) also premiered at the Festival del film Locarno in the International Competition.

As a reachable form of a lost Eden within every one’s grasp, everybody comes to the Bois de Vincennes to seek refuge in Nature. People from all walks of life have the right to be here: rich, poor, french, foreign, gay, straight, alone or accompanied, old school or hip. The Woods are an island surrounded by the towns that encircle it: a mirage dreamed-up by a fatigued citydweller. The difficulty of living in the city is left behind. Here we heal, we play, we have fun and we dream.

What’s up with love? Can it still be found or is it a utopian dream? What keeps a couple together and where does desire take us? In its search for clues, YES NO MAYBE comes upon two completely different couples: a first love and a last love. One begins unexpectedly via Internet, the other culminates in a shared dream of many years in Portland, Oregon. Meanwhile, Eva Illouz and Sven Hillenkamp discerningly crack the code of the impossible character of love, the findings of which the two couples discount. www.yesnomaybe-film.com

«Grozny Blues» follows the daily lives of a handful of people living in the capital of war-torn Chechnya. The film’s protagonists – human rights activists, a group of young musicians, the owner of a Blues club - are all trying to find their way through a surreal cityscape and a divided society shaped by repression, archaic customs, increasing Islamification and the failure to come to terms with recent history.

Run-down rehearsal rooms along the halls of the Grand Theatre of Havana, Amanda and Viengsay dedicate themselves wholeheartedly to the demanding routine their discipline requires of them: that of classical ballet. Their every step and aspiration echo the great achievements of their predecessor, Alicia Alonso, the prima ballerina assoluta, still invincible even at the grand age of 90. www.horizontes-film.ch
