Swiss Italian Festa 2009
Welcome Presidents Message Hepburn Springs and its twin town Daylesford, plus surrounding villages, once again present for your pleasure the award winning Swiss Italian Festa. The Festa began in 1992 as a small community event and has developed into a fabulous ten days of festivity around our heritage, culture and lifestyle, with a cavalcade of high quality events. Festa 2009 will be the 17th Swiss/Italian festival that will also mark the 145th anniversary of the Mineral Water Committee that saved the original mineral springs from destruction and significantly the 150th anniversary of the Old Macaroni Factory. Our theme for 2009 is “Tutto il Mondo e’ Paese” – The whole world is one big town. To celebrate our heritage we present a diverse array of events including arts, music, wine, food, heritage displays, sports, youth bands, street parade, fireworks and more. Please use this Program of Events booklet and our website for more detail. A committee of volunteers presents for you a unique event that celebrates the culture and diversity of our community. Come and join in and enjoy our beautiful rural environment and friendly people. In conclusion, I wish to thank our sponsors, donors and loyal volunteers for their generous support. See you there!!. Rob McDonald
Message from Franca Smarrelli My love affair with the Hepburn Springs area began 20 years ago via a close relationship with the Old Macaroni Factory. In 2009 the Old Macaroni Factory turns 150 making it the oldest Italian building in Australia. This iconic institution underpins the contribution of the Italian community to the development of the Australian nation. During 2009 in consultation with the President of the Hepburn Springs Swiss Italian Festa, I am pleased to say that the Melbourne Italian Festival has formalised a Memorandum of Understanding for the next three years. This important agreement will ensure further promotion of the enormous contribution of Italian culture to Victoria and Australia.........socially, politically....and through the visual, performing and culinary arts. I invite you to join the Hepburn Springs Swiss Italian Committee and myself to celebrate and promote the heritage and culture of the descendants and pioneers of the area and the current diversity and lifestyle of the local area. Buon Compleanno e arrivederci a Hepburn Springs in 2009. Franca Smarrelli Director, Melbourne Italian Festival
