“RECESS” PODS A small group PE alternative
GRADES 1-5 With classes being online and less chances for social and physical activity, “recess” is a great way to supplement what PE and recess normally provide for kids. Recess will be a structured, socially distance-conscious way for kids to get outside, run around and just be kids. Activities may include fast-paced scavenger hunts, capture the flag, kick ball, etc and tennis on request. We understand people are forming pods/ groups of people who they feel safe interacting with, so we nicknamed these sessions “pods” that people may sign a group of kids up for. These sessions will be two weeks long with one session per week and you may sign up for as many sessions as you wish. For example, signing up for Tuesday from 11-11:45 Oct. 6 will include

Join us for one of the fastest growing sports in the nation, Pickleball. This fun and social game is described as a combination of pingpong, tennis, and badminton. Played on a small court with a low net, it uses whiffle balls and paddles. It is easy for beginners to learn, but can develop into a quick, fastpaced, competitive game for experienced players. Pickleball is FUN. Stay active with us, it is a great work out. We typically play doubles, 6 players to a court, splitting and rotating after wins. We’ve modified our pickleball program. Please review our safety plan for details online. Some of the highlights/changes are: • New outdoor location • Play is by online advance reservation only – Your reservation is for a slot to play, not for a court. Only 3 reservations at a time. • Cloth face coverings must be worn at arrival/departure/sidelines • 6-foot physical distancing required • New process for queuing up • Maximum 6 reservations per court – If we fill, please join the waitlist In addition to self-monitoring, verbal health screening may required at check-in. Temp checks with a non-contact thermometer will likely be done.

Sniffing out fun on Whidbey
This fast-growing dog sport teaches you how to encourage and develop your dog’s amazing natural scenting ability by using its desire to hunt and its love of food, toys, and exercise. Each dog works separately, one at a time, so this is a class for dogs unsuited for a group setting. Classes are offered at all levels, from beginning to advanced dog handler teams. Instructor: Georgia Edwards is a nationally certified K9 Nosework® Instructor. She is a judge and certifying official for the odor recognition tests of the National Association of Canine Scent Work, and judge and search designer for all levels of scent work competition for the American Kennel Club and US Canine Scent Sports. A retired cancer physician, she first became interested in canine scent discrimination 25 years ago, when her hospital therapy dog was able to identify patients with metastatic breast cancer. k9nosework@whidbey.net Location: Outdoors at Community Park, “The Doghouse” at Community Park, and off-site field trips. Schedule: Ongoing offerings for beginning to advanced levels are held Sundays and Wednesdays. Times vary by level. See swparks.org/event/dog-nosework for detailed schedule and fees.

ADULTS & YOUTH 14+ (YOUNGER OK W/ PARTICIPATING PARENT) A live, virtual online class. If greater creativity, calm, and balance are among your goals for the fall, look no further than Zentangle – a type of meditation achieved through pattern-making, created by artists Maria Thomas and Rick Roberts.
