BULL & BRED HEIFER SALE
Saturday, October 26 th
Welcome to the Sale BLACK HEREFORD RANCH would like to invite each and everyone of you to our 15th Annual Fall Cream of the Crop Bull and Bred Heifer Sale. We hope you will take the time to thoroughly study this catalog, and we hope you will realize what sets us apart from the crowd. We know that this business continues to get tougher and tougher every year to remain in such a competitive market and how laborsome it can be to try and stay ahead of the times to protect your pockets. However, if you’re serious about improving your next calf crop and those in the future to keep your customers coming back for more, then there’s not a more proven, quicker way than by increasing the quality of your herd sire and females. Contact us anytime, and let’s discuss what we have that can help you get ahead of the ballgame. We believe that this is one of the most elite groups we have ever offered. We have more variety of breeds, colors, shapes, sizes and pedigrees than most outfits do. We believe that too sets us apart from the crowd and has allowed us to have a hand in helping improve lots of different outfits over the years. Predictability and marketability have been bred into these cattle for 41 years. We have been working hard for four decades to engineer the stout, deep, wide bodied, big hipped, attractive, sound kind by stacking the best pedigrees with this type and kind. Let us know your goals, and we will help you select the cattle that best fit your wants/needs that can get the job done for you. Nobody will know these cattle and their genetic potential as well as we will, and we are eager to lend you our two cents on what we recommend. Please give us a call or stop by the ranch to study the offering— they are all here and handy to look at any time. We also help out our loyal customers through the promotion and merchandising of their Cream of the Crop genetic offspring. We have several COC sales a year, and many of our customers have been sending their tops back to us with great success over the past 41 years. I would like to thank my family and employees for all of their long, hard hours they put in to make this event possible for the past 15 years. We hope you will join us October 26th and let us help you Start Raising Your Own Champions! Thank You,
Kris Black

FALL CREAM OF THE CROP BULL & BRED HEIFER SALE | 2 | SATURDAY, OCTOBER 26, 2019…CRAWFORD, OKLAHOMA
Ranch History
When Kris was in the first grade, his grandfather Frank “Shorty” Gilliland gave him a purebred Polled Hereford heifer. Kris kept the females as replacements, and by the time he graduated, he had a small group of cows that were the original foundation of what is now Black Hereford Ranch. Shorty’s family homesteaded the acreage that was previously the Gilliland Hereford Ranch for G.L. and Shorty Gilliland. One of the original homes still remains in use today as a ranch house. Neighbors tell stories of helping Shorty load his tack and cattle onto train cars, riding with the cattle, traveling to shows as far off as the World Beef Expo in Kentucky. They put on a number of Polled Hereford production sales over the years. Unfortunately due to health reasons, Shorty had to disperse most of his cow herd. The year Kris graduated, Shorty had a stroke that left him handicapped. Kris put a halt to college plans and moved to Crawford to work for Shorty until his passing a few years later.
Hereford followed by a Tulsa Reserve Grand Champion Steer with a Hereford. He continued to add color to his crop, and in 1993 he had a black baldy Power Plant son that was Reserve Grand at Houston, raised by our late friend Frank Johnson. In 1994, Frank bought a Power Plant x Chi cow and called Kris to ask what to breed her to…a year later, Habanero was born. They were our first to break the $20,000 barrier, and 23 years later Habanero is still making a direct impact. Kris knows the ups and downs to starting out in this business and has thoroughly enjoyed helping people from all different

SALE TERMS & GUARANTEES
C R E A M of the C R O P
TERMS OF SALE
FEMALE BREEDING GUARANTEE
Terms of sale are cash or check to the clerk at the conclusion of the auction. Animals are not to leave until paid for in full.
Safe in calf females have been examined by our veterinarians. All females declared safe in calf will have a projected calving date or date range printed on the sale day supplement. All projected due dates are best estimates only and not guaranteed. Please remember that it is normal to give birth throughout the two weeks either side of their projected due date. If a pregnant female proves to be open by a licensed veterinarian within 45 days of this sale and is returned to the seller within 60 days at the buyer’s expense, the buyer may choose between a full credit refund of equal value, to be used within the next year’s COC sales, or choose to keep the female with a $600 adjustment.
BULL BREEDING GUARANTEE All bulls in this offering have been fertility and trichomoniasis tested by our veterinarians at Ellis County Animal Hospital, Circle M Veterinary and Scott Sturgeon D.V.M. and are guaranteed to be breeders, with the exception of a) injury or disease occurring after the time of sale; or b) gross negligence or willful misconduct on the part of the purchaser. Any bull that settles cows by natural service is considered a breeder.
RETAINED INTEREST IN BULLS Ownership: Unless otherwise stated in the catalog, we are selling full possession, full salvage value and 2/3 revenue sharing semen interest. This means the bull is totally in your control as to how you want to handle him, as well as 100% of the salvage value of the bull. We are retaining 1/3 revenuesharing semen interest. This simply gives us the right to 1/3 of the semen sales revenue from the bull, if at some time in the future semen sales become a possibility. If you sell the bull to anyone else, Black Hereford Ranch retains our semen interest and revenue sales. If a buyer is not interested in marketing the semen from a bull, then Black Hereford Ranch reserves the right to collect a semen bank on the bull at our cost and the buyer’s convenience within a timely manner. That semen would be 100% owned by Black Hereford Ranch for our use or marketing. Realistically speaking, the reason Black Hereford Ranch retains an interest in every bull is that we want to keep it simple, and we have great bulls throughout the offering. The bulls that do develop a market for larger amounts of semen can be very financially rewarding; therefore, as a breeder of some of the best seed stock in the industry, we want to share with you in these bulls. Even bulls that aren’t originally promoted can become popular at a later time, especially after calf crops prove successful. We want to be a great partner with you. Semen Rights: Buyers receive semen rights proportionally to the interest that is purchased. A 1/3 semen interest, and 1/3 of all semen sales, is retained on all bulls unless otherwise stated in the catalog or supplement sheet or announced from the block the day of the sale. Therefore, if you purchase 2/3 revenue sharing semen interest, you are entitled to 2/3 of the collection semen cost provided that you indicate that you want semen prior to collection. Future semen collections must be made known to all owners prior to collecting. The collections and cost will be divided according to each owner’s interest, unless otherwise agreed upon mutually by all owners prior to collection of said semen.
PROTECTING YOUR INVESTMENT We did our best to use the best low birth weight sires available on the bred heifers. We don’t have many calving problems, but we check them every three to four hours around the clock close to due dates. After they leave our operation, we have no control, and they’re livelihood is now your ownership. We highly recommend you take out insurance on your purchases. This is a safe way to protect your investment on both females and bulls.
RETAINED INTEREST IN FEMALES Black Hereford Ranch RETAINS THE RIGHT TO PARTNER ON TWO SUCCESSFUL FLUSHES ON ALL COC FEMALES. A successful flush is defined as producing at least four eggs per partner. If you sell the female to anyone else, Black Hereford Ranch still retains our right to partner on two successful flushes. If a buyer is not interested in flushing the female, then Black Hereford Ranch reserves the right to two successful flushes on the female at our cost and the buyer’s convenience within a timely manner.
FUTURE HEALTH CARE RECOMMENDATIONS The stress of hauling and relocating your COC purchases can weaken their immune system, so we recommend keeping a good eye on them daily for the two weeks after you get them home. See page 8 for our complete herd health protocol. The 12–18 month old bulls can be used with great success, but we recommend to turn out one cow per bull’s month of age for best results. These young bulls are still growing and losing their teeth and may need a little extra care at the end of their first breeding season.
BLACK HEREFORD RANCH RESERVES THE RIGHT TO COLLECT DNA FOR CLONING PURPOSES ON ALL CATTLE WE SELL.

Troubadour Lead On x Donor 410 (WG x Donor 9970)
Troubadour has proven time and time again to make tremendous sons and daughters—the kind we are all striving to produce. He is deceased, and very little semen still exists on him. As you will see in the following pages, his progeny are some of the very best champion producers that you will find anywhere. He consistently stamps them with unmistakable class and style. His sons have proven to take the heat as champion caliber show steers and bulls that produce the kind that make people want to get in this business.
Troubadour is backed by a cow family that is second to none, and they have produced full sisters and brothers to Troubadour that have raised the bar on prolific operations all over the country. His dam, Donor 410, has far exceeded the $300,000 mark in progeny sales and has a set of yearling ET sons that are some of her best yet! Troubadour's granddam, Donor 9970, would be 20 years old this spring and has a tremendous son selling as Lot 5. It is hard to match their production abilities. A Free Bird (full brother to Troubadour) daughter was Brandon Bird’s high seller in the 2019 Donors Unlimited Sale at $25,000. Three of the first four lots in this year’s Share The Brand Sale were Troubadour bred for a reason…they keep getting the job done!
Members of this family have been a driving force for years in this industry and have made irreplaceable producers; the ones to come after them are as predictable as they come. This line of genetics defines “potent” and shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.

Selling 1/2 semen interest, 1/2 semen sharing revenue and 1/2 possession. Buyer’s choice of every spring possession or every other full year possession.
We have been fortunate enough to have had some of the most sought-after club calf sires in the country walk through our Cream of the Crop sale ring. Legends like Yellow Jacket, Troubadour, Made Right, Carpe Diem, Lifeline, Habanero, Taz (the sire of Heat Wave’s mother) and Easy Jett, along with many others, have gone on to produce champions, high sellers and top-shelf cattle from coast to coast. We know that The Judge .410’s time is coming when he too will be a household name along with these greats in the near future. We believe that Lot 1’s future is promising in whatever route he’s pointed after October 26th. He is as right as rain for the times and is as conformationally correct as we have ever produced. He has all the power, width and slick shear dimension that you could ever dream of. He is cast from the same mold, with Troubadour’s iconic neck and perfect made front end, minus the attitude. Most importantly, he has a phenomenal foundation from the ground up, traveling fluid and free with ease. Sires come and go, but a good cow backing them instills longevity and versatility for years to come. We seek out herd bulls that are backed by proven cow families, and this one has them lined up top to bottom. His dam is our all-time best producing, highest money earning cow to date in our program. His sire is one of Lautner’s greatest producers who has sired a plethora of champions and high sellers. He too roots back to pure cow power. Dakota Gold is out of a great producing COC Yellow Jacket daughter in South Dakota, adding an extra juice to this bull’s system. Contrary to popular belief, all good things don’t have to come to an end; when they produce cattle like this cow family has over the years, they’ve left a legacy! Lots 1–4 are Donor 410’s last hoorahs. She knew how to go out with a bang and then some. The Judge .410 has all the credentials to become the next big promotable AI sire that can withstand the ultimate test of time. Here’s an opportunity to own a rare piece of history that we are going to regret not keeping to ourselves for years to come! Holy mackerel! This one is as sweet necked as they make em, and yet he’s still the biggest bellied creature in the entire sale! He is stamped from the same mold as Donor 410 and Troubadour’s source, Donor 9970. This one should be studied hard, as he brings a lot of rare attributes to the table. He is as smooth as they come, whale bellied, big ol wide backed and has the added size we are all huntin for. He flat gets out and struts on a set of feet and legs that define “sound.” He may or may not be the color you’re wanting, but study your genetics books, because he packs color genes on top and bottom of his pedigree and should prove to throw them all colors of the rainbow. When they are built like this, we don’t care if they are black, white, green or purple, we just put them to work. His Donor 9970 dam at age 17 produced a yellow-and-white $25,000 bred heifer and full sister to this great bull. We finally and regretfully pulled 9970 out of the ET pen at Dr. Mimms’ this year at age 20. She served us longer than any other and was an irreplaceable foundation female in our program. Lot 5 is a maternal brother to Donor 410, the dam of Lots 1– 4 as well as Troubadour and all that entails.

The power of Donor 5088
There is no denying that the power of Donor 5088 keeps getting sweeter with time, generation after generation. She was hands down one of the best lookin HooDoos to ever come out of Cody, Wyoming. She was Kris’s No. 1 pick of 1,600 purebred Charolais bred heifers at the HooDoo Ranch in 2005 and is still a standout of the 20,000 we were privileged enough to hand sort through. She herself has produced “the ones” more than once, and even the ones that weren’t the bellringers on sale day have year in and year out flat outdone themselves. She produced a COC George daughter purchased by Speer Tri-S whose sons raked in $48,500 this spring alone and daughters in our June sale that tacked on another $15,400 to that. When you cross rare breeding pieces like Donor 5088 with bulls like Troubadour, you end up with ones like the $50,000 COC Sue Donor and her full brother COC Renegade. Our first Renegade daughter to sell made the trek to Meadow, TX, at $15,000 this summer, and like so many have done before, we can’t wait to see how they put her to work. All in all, Lots 11, 12 and 13 are at least half-blood HooDoos that go back to the great 5088 cow.

You can’t lose here. This bull calved too close between his AI due date and clean up sires date to call, so we are currently running parentage and will have results before sale time. If he is straight HooDoo bred like we hope, he will go down in our file as one of the most unique breeding pieces we have ever produced. If he is sired by our great PB maternal brother to Renegade and the $50,000-valued COC Sue, No Man’s Land, then he is still a PB and a 3/4 HooDoo with equally major cow history backing him. Or if he is an African King son, we won’t be a bit disappointed, because he will cross two tremendous cow families on top and bottom of his pedigree, still be double clean by pedigree and have producing power galore. However, to give credit where it’s due, this bull gets half of his goods from his tremendous PB HooDoo dam, who was one of the best to ever make the trip from Cody to Crawford. Lot 14 is built as good as you can make one, as sound as you can ask for and loaded down with program changing potential.

This 153 son is the definition of a female maker! He’s what good HooDoo bulls used to look like back when George Brown was managing the HooDoo Ranch, and that influenced the HooDoos we still have today.
AC HooDoo U866
The sire of Lot 15 and possibly Lot 14 is a tremendous cow making, straight HooDoo bred registered purebred Charolais sire that we flushed and AI’d some of our very best old HooDoo cows to in an effort to keep the potent tradition going. This is hands down the coolest necked cat in the alley. He is simply athletic within a loose skeleton that allows him to get out and prowl with ease. He is big soggy middled and as sound as they make em with a tremendous set of legs and paws under him. He is clean by pedigree but had as much quality hair as any THC on the market. He has been nothing short of an eye catcher since the day he hit the ground. We have all three wrestled and debated on when his time to shine should be. We started to wait to offer this young gun to the public next summer, since he’s still green and not quite as ready as most in the offering. However, he is undoubtedly one of our best ever, so why wait another seven months when he could begin breaking ground now? We are freezing semen on him and will give him a good test flight this fall with confidence. As a mature bull, he will be a bull battery that will supercharge lots of females. Take notes and do your homework on this double-bred Yellow Jacket breath of fresh air that has all the potential you can ask for!
HooDoo Phylli Dam of Yellow Jacket, Polar Ice, J10 and others

What can we say to do HooDoo Phylli justice? She was the stoutest female to ever come off the HooDoo Ranch in Cody, Wyoming. She was leaps and bounds ahead of her time and is still the stoutest PB we’ve ever come across. She produced the kind that rocked the industry’s boat, like Yellow Jacket, Polar Ice and J10. What a way to kick off the maternal Simm-influence bulls! Wow— they don’t put a middle, muscle and stunning look on them like this one very often. This easy fleshin baldy will produce females that will stand the test of time and be the kind to build an entire cow herd around. The cows backing him are phenomenal. His dam and granddam weren’t your average PB Angus… they were belly draggin, stout, moderate sized good ones that could flat produce and are highlighted on the bottom side of a lot of cattle in our program for all that they brought to the table. This Loaded Up son is sleek fronted, big backed and butted, extra sound, maternal bred and couldn’t be a better size. He can go work wonders and put maternal back on a clubby set of females without losing any productivity. He is bred to be maternal but has all it takes to produce slick shearin champions. A big time, dual purpose bull that we have froze good semen on and are going to give him lots of chances to prove himself starting this fall!

She has a maternal sister to the dam of Lots 61 and 62 that has produced two Fort Worth champions and this spring alone produced $52,500 in weanling prospect sales. Another sister produced the 2019 Houston Champion Polled. Without a doubt, she has put Clark and Shackelford on the map. REFERENCE & SEMEN SELLING
Battleship Battle Cry by Made Right x Kut Above
SEMEN SELLS AS LOTS 201–212 12 LOTS OF 5 UNITS
We were very high on one of the best Hereford bull prospects to ever step foot on our place. Battleship was sired by the $76,000 Made Right son Battle Cry and out of a darn good Kut Above daughter at Larry Kieschnick’s. We liked Battleship enough that we purchased half interest from Kieschnick and put him straight to work. His first calf crop proved his worth and far exceeded our expectations. Bradley Hale only got one cane of his semen and produced the State Fair of Texas Champion Red Cross Prospect, two more that were Oklahoma Beef Expo Champion, Battle of the Cattle Champion and A&M’s Saddle & Sirloin Champion, along with others that have been at the top and are very promising to withstand the heat next spring at majors. We sold a son and a full brother that Kieschnick raised at the Main Event Sale this spring that have shined. The full brother was recently the Dallas Prospect Champion Hereford, shown by the Stephens family. The son won both rings at the Belt Buckle Bonanza, two of the three rings at the North Texas State Fair and was Reserve Polled in both rings at the TJLA Camp Show for the Chambers family. His first set of daughters will be offered in next summer’s COC Female Sale as breds, and they will only fan his flame higher.
Battleship built up a lot of steam in a short amount of time; however, we are sad to announce that we lost him this summer, with a limited semen bank on hand. We feel that the best way to market what little we have on a great bull is through our COC sales and put him along with the greats we have done this with in the past, like Troubadour, Made Right and Easy Jett. This will be the only semen available to the public for the rest of 2019. We will be offering 60 units in lots of five to the public, live across the block on October 26th, along with his first bull progeny selling as Lot 63. A real good son of the now-deceased COC Battleship, whom we sadly lost this spring. Battleship’s first two calf crops were nothing short of phenomenal, and we are going to regret not having him turned out. Of his two sons and two full brothers that we took to The Main Event Sale this year, two brought over $20,000 with the other two not far behind. We would like to congratulate the Chambers family on their Battleship son that was the 2019 Belt Buckle Bonanza Champion Polled in both rings this summer, along with Champion in two rings, Reserve Champion Polled in another at the North Texas Fair and Champion Polled at the TJLA camp show. Lot 63’s dam is a maternal sister to Made Right and a full sister to Kris’s favorite cow on the place, Donor 1600. This bull is as good bellied and as square hipped and topped as they get. He is medium sized, way sound, good lookin, big backed and hipped. We have used him to clean up our Hereford heifers with great success, and the only reason we have decided to part with him is because he is getting a lil too heavy to use on our 800 lb. yearling heifers. He can be used on a variety of cows, and his EPDs are good enough to fit in with any registered Hereford herd in the country. We have AI’d boat loads of heifers to his sire with great results. FALL CREAM OF THE CROP BULL & BRED HEIFER SALE | 43 |
We like this one enough that we are marketing him again as a mature bull, now that our good customer has his daughters as replacement heifers that need bred a different way, as we have done on several, including Yello Repo, Trail Boss and Double Wide, to name a few. He is deep sided, sound as a cat, moderate, cool necked, wide based and big stout hipped. His mother was the $20,000 Lot 2 in our 2012 sale to Tommy Byrd. He is sired by COC Trail Boss, who brought $14,000 as a virgin bull and two years later doubled the money when we re-sold him in our 2013 Female Sale for $29,000. Trail Boss was a phenomenal female producer for Tommy Byrd and ourselves, and this son will follow in his footsteps. He is the cow changer of the offering. He was skinny when he came in this spring, so we haven’t used him since we got him back, but he is built as good as any.

THE SPRING BRED HEIFER DIVISION
Spring Bred Females We are proud to offer you the top half of our spring bred heifers. Our motto is “We don’t keep the best and sell the rest.” We culled hard and believe there is a special place for each of these females as a breeding piece to improve a wide variety of programs. All breeds and colors are represented, and most all link back to genetics that have been proven time and time again. We have culled hard on feet, legs, udder development and quality for generations. They will all be wide bodied, good hipped, easy keepin and sound. Unless stated otherwise, they are guaranteed bred to a great set of low birth weight registered Red Angus bulls. They will begin calving the end of March and will finish around June 10th. Most all of the heifers will be videoed prior to the sale and will be available for online viewing. Any supplemental information will be provided the week of the sale. Please remember that it is normal for females to calve two weeks on either side of their projected due dates. From top to bottom, these females will not disappoint. All lots are available for viewing at the ranch any time between now and sale day. We personally welcome you to stop by the ranch at your convenience for their inspection!

Hippopotamus middled, moderate framed, marked right and sound to boot. She is way too docile to picture as good as she is in person, but she’s fun to have around. She is built great from the ground up and has a great producing cow family backing her. Her dam is Kris’s favorite cow on the place…she’s the cookie cutter standard in his mind. Donor 1600 is a maternal sister to Made Right and full sister to the dam of Lot 102 and Lot 63 in the bull offering, making this heifer a full sister to last fall’s high selling bull in this sale, the $30,000 COC Right Above that is now at work at Cox Cattle Co.— his first calf crop this fall is making quite a wake. SEMEN SELLS AS LOTS 221–245 10 LOTS OF 10 UNITS + 15 LOTS OF 5 UNITS
Easy Money x Donor 1685 (Skipper x Tank) Sire of Lots 102 & 103
We get told frequently, “Y’all need to raise another Made Right.” We usually chuckle as we remind them that we need an outcross for all of the Made Right daughters we have collected over the years. His namesake speaks magnitudes of how high we are on his potential. Walter Merrick produced a racehorse that was far ahead of his time in 1967 who, like our Easy Jett, is also a Crawford, Okla., native. Merrick sent him out of 26 starting gates as a two-year-old and came out of 22 victorious within his first career year, including the All-American. The next year he was the Champion Racing Stallion of the Year and was sold for $3.5 million and then syndicated for $300 million in the early 80s. He put Crawford, Okla., on the map. COC Easy Jett was born unassisted to a dang nice first-calf heifer in 2014, whose second crop produced our high selling Highway 33, and she has produced a phenomenal set of females since. Donor 1685 has been a no-miss profit maker that undeniably passes that trait on heavily. Half-interest in Easy Jett sold in our 2015 Bull Sale to Bradley and Jett Hale of Miami, Texas. Bradley and Kris both AI’d, flushed and cleaned up cows with him that fall and spring with confidence. Easy Jett’s first calf crop of steers laid the foundation of everything we expected and then some. Every single Easy Jett steer we sold that spring, except for one, branded at a Texas major. Even on a minimal calf crop this spring, he produced the Sandhills Champion Polled and sired three of the four Hereford champions at Fort Worth. His first set of daughters sold in last summer’s COC sale and were nothing short of phenomenal, and the ones in this offering are even stouter! Unfortunately, in the spring of 2017, Easy Jett sustained an injury that most vets chalked up as a complete loss, but Dr. Gary Warner and his team of specialists at Elgin, Texas, took it head on. We are very fortunate to have him back in our lineup, but due to recovery, Easy Jett has not been able to produce semen as often. Until banks are restored, we are still not releasing semen to the open public market. 175 units will be the only available on the market, through this sale on Saturday, October 26th, live across the block. If all goes as planned, Easy Jett will be on display sale day for your thorough appraisal. He has matured into one stout, massive bodied phenomenon. Never have we ever had a sire group this deep, this quick, not even when the winningest Hereford show steer sire of all time, Made Right, who has been in the record books for 16 years, was in his prime production.

Private Treaty Bulls There are close to 30 bulls that we feel like are not quite in sale shape. They are all breeds and colors and out of some of the best we have to offer. These types of bulls have proven their weight in gold in the past. There are stories every year of these kind of cattle that pay for themselves in full within their first calf crop. COC
This has been our livelihood for 41 years. Our genetics have helped put many club calf breeders on the map. If you’re just getting started raising champions, we’ve been there and we want to help you get started on the right foot. If you have a veteran herd that needs a boost, we can help you get your operation to a higher level of production. We strive to generate the type of cattle that work hard and make our customers proud profits. We don’t keep the best and sell the rest. We offer you our all, and not many can truthfully say this. Many customers can testify that there are good cattle at bargain prices throughout the entirety of our sales. Many pay for themselves within their first calf crop, and several have turned into money-earning donors or promotable herd sires. The following success stories merely scratch the surface of what these genetics are capable of. Make plans to join us October 26th. You won’t be disappointed! BIRD CATTLE CO. Brandon Bird has assembled a group of the very best females and bulls from all over the country. Brandon has a good eye and has invested in some of the best our program has had to offer over the years. A clone to the dam of his outrageously cool lookin COC “Peaches” Donor. He purchased COC Exacto, whose top nine calves averaged over $13,000. He wisely added COC Free Bird, the stoutest full brother to Troubadour to date, to his lineup. His steer progeny have brought up to $15,000, and his COC sons now being promoted are the $28,000 Strait Bankin and the $12,000 Red Bird, racking up his progeny earnings on a limited calf crop. His daughters have been high sellers through this sale as well as this year’s Donors Unlimited Sale at $25,000 and last year at $17,500. BIRKHEAD CATTLE CO. James Birkhead has been coming to our COC Female Sale since the first year we started having it. He has bought some of our best we have had to offer each year and has marketed their offspring through our COC sales with tremendous success. He has done his homework and put together a premier herd that we look forward to their crop every year. Watch for his set in next summer’s offering. BUTCHEE FAMILY The John D. and Dillon Butchee family have been COC customers for years and are proof that you don’t have buy the top sellers to “Raise Your Own Champions.” They come early and stay late, doing their homework on the back pens. They purchased one of the youngest, most immature females in the sale that was the first calf out of a high seller a couple years ago for $1,500. They laughed all the way to the bank when that green, well bred female produced a $10,000 steer last spring. “You always say to do your homework, so that’s what we do!” – John D.
HALE CATTLE CO. Bradley Hale and his son, Jett, have been consistently raising Herefords that are hard to beat. If you study their pedigrees, a lot of them are rich in Black Hereford Ranch blood, including Made Right, Carpe Diem, Shot Gun, Cannon, Wasp and Outer Limits. He purchased Easy Jett and was fired up enough about his calves that he came back and partnered with Brandon Patschke on the purchase of his maternal brother Highway 33 in our bull sale. The top pick of his calves the last two springs were Easy Jetts. Easy Jett sired three of the four banners at the West Texas Fair this fall and both at the Tri-State Fair. We are excited about having a partner who confidently used Easy Jett on some of the best Hereford cows in the country! Congratulations to Bradley for producing three of the four Hereford Champions at Fort Worth, all sired by COC Easy Jett!
CLARK & SHACKELFORD Ernest Clark and Wade Shackelford purchased a $3,500 Tiger daughter as a bred heifer. She has since generated well over $200,000 in sales and has produced all of their their champions and high sellers. Her influence will be felt for years down the road. She now has a daughter in Bradley Hale’s herd that is accomplishing big things, including two champions at Fort Worth and $52,500 worth of prospects this spring. To top it off, a daughter produced the Champion Polled at Houston this spring. Stout power in the blood at Black Hereford Ranch!
DAVIS CATTLE CO. Champ Davis bought some of the best of what we had to offer from the time we started. We are thankful for the time and friendship we had with this great cattleman. His son, Neal Ray, and daughter, Nacy, have continued to do what Davis Cattle Co. is good at— raising the good ones. Many of the Cream of the Crop females that Champ and his family have purchased remain in their donor pen. Yello Repo, Easy Street, Freeze Frame, a stout full brother to Carpe Diem and some of the best roam their pastures. Champ would be proud of his kids for carrying on what he started.
DAY SHOW CATTLE Ricky and Rusty Day have sold as many winners and high selling Hereford steers as any. They have been volume buyers of Made Right semen, and many of their highlights have been sired by him. They purchased a COC 30-06 ET open heifer that they call “Donor P254” for $3,500. P254’s first group of calves grossed $50,000. She has produced so many $100,000s worth that they’ve lost track on her earnings. She has produced steers that have brought up to $42,500, has had champions at all of the Texas major steer shows and they’ve retained all of her daughters within their cow herd. They believe in her consistency enough that they have cloned her, and she is repeating P254’s success yet again. In 2008, they bought a bull from us that we called “O’Reilly.” He is long gone, but his legacy lives on. We would like to commend them on putting O’Reilly’s daughters to work. Congratulations to Riggin Day on his State Fair of Texas Reserve Division Black Cross out of a tremendous O’Reilly female at the Day’s.
DONORS UNLIMITED The 2019 Donors Unlimited Sale in the Beef Capitol of the World had a great group of females and consignors this year. In the Hereford division of the catalog, 90% or better were COC genetics on one or both sides of their pedigrees as well as in some of the other divisions too. Congratulations on a very successful sale, and thank you for continuing to trust in our genetics. continued…

DWIGHT NIESCHWITZ Has been making the trip from Pleasonton, Texas, to our female and club calf sales for years, and it has paid off! Congratulations to Dwight for raising the 2017 San Antonio Reserve Champion Gert from the first calf crop from his “COC In The Zone,” a No Spin Zone son that he purchased from us. GLOVER CATTLE CO. Bruce and Dustin Glover have been repeat volume buyers for their progressive club calf operation over the years. However, their most recent success we owe a large congratulations to is for their Made Right semen purchases. To say their 0545 Donor has clicked with COC Made Right would be an understatement. She has produced over $370,000 in Made Right progeny sales, including the 2016 Champion Fort Worth Polled Steer, $76,000 Battle Cry, $10,000 War Paint and the 2016 and 2017 Oklahoma Youth Expo Champion Herefords. Watch for COC Comanche’s calves coming from Gerald Haseloff next spring. GREGG KROUPA CLUB CALVES Greg has purchased several leading Cream of the Crop females and bulls over the years. The Cream of the Crop 159 Donor he purchased for $10,000 has now produced over $300,000 in progeny sales. Carpe Diem, Freeze Frame, MOAB, Pence and Third Times A Charm are just a few that he has hauled North and put to work heavily in his program. HORN LIVESTOCK In 1999, Brandon decided to give this club calf business a try. He purchased a $2,000 Festus x Donor #1, a full sister to our Champion Charolais at San Antonio and a maternal sister to Blanco and Benny. She became the first original foundation female of what has now become the Horn Livestock empire. She still has a major impact on their program, as she is the dam of his Donor 750, who produced Jagger’s 2017 Houston Grand Steer and is the dam of his highly promoted “Generator” AI sire. Brandon is promoting his next new big one, Slingshot, whose dam is sired by the 2009 COC Lot 12 bull, now known as TM 812, purchased by longtime customer Tony Myers. Lot 12 has proven to be a consistent female producer of many of Myers’ and Horn’s top producing donors. KENNEDY BROTHERS Brian and Dennis Kennedy have had great success with their Cream of the Crop females and herd sires. Their COC females have produced five Reserve Grand Steers, and their two COC herd sires, COC Junior and COC Shamrock, sired two more, all at the Houston Livestock Show. Their latest was the 2017 Houston Reserve Grand Steer, whose granddam was the first COC HooDoo cow they purchased from us. MIKE MATTEARUE Congratulations to Mike Mattearue on raising a Grand Champion Steer at the Nacogdoches County Show, sired by their COC Lot 26 Carpe Diem son. You will be hearing more from this operation in the years to come. MIMMS CATTLE CO. Mike Mimms knows how to collect COC cattle from our top cow families, and he knows how to put them to work! In his 2019 Donors Unlimited Sale, his COC Tank x HooDoo, which is now Mimms Donor 29, rang a bell. She produced two of his high selling lots, 2D at $29,000 and 2C at $20,000. Her previous three sons brought $30,000, $17,000 and $7,500. Our goal is to produce the type and kind that leave big tracks to fill, and we are glad to have customers like Mike that push them to reach their potential.
MIKE MIMMS & JESS SHIRLEY Both have purchased some great females and bulls from us over the years. In the past couple of years, they have teamed up on some great females that are now in their stout Hereford, Texas, donor lineup. For instance, in our 2017 COC Sale, they purchased Lot 114, now known as Donor 1514. In the 2019 Donors Unlimited Sale, a pregnancy and six
embryos paid for well over half of their investment. They’re anxiously awaiting their first crop of embryo mates that should hit it out of the park.
MITCH & HAYES HALL Mitch and Hayes have been longtime, valuable COC customers. Hayes showed steers and did his fair share of winning, and since then they have purchased several top bulls and females while building up a very progressive program in Anson, Texas. They have raised several very successful calves out of them so far. Their COC George son sired the 2016 State Fair of Texas Reserve Grand Steer. Year after year, they have been keeping the daughters out of their COC Godfather son. “They are good lookin and have been great producers,” Mitch said. One of them raised the 2017 Houston Champion Limi. We often hear parents say that they wouldn’t trade their years of showing with their kids for anything. This father–son duo is carrying on that tradition and now Raising Their Own Champions!
PARKER CATTLE CO. Charlie and Casey Parker have been long time, repeat customers of some of the very best females and bulls we have had to offer. They purchased their 385 HooDoo Donor in our COC Female Sale for $5,400. She has since proven her weight in gold, raising the COC 2015 Houston Grand Champion Steer and several outstanding COC sale highlights. They purchased the Lot 33 Made Right son in our Bull Sale, called “Movin A’Head.” The Parker boys come early, stay late and do a lot of homework at our sales, and their dedication pays off. Their first three sons of Movin A’Head brought $35,000, and another brought $20,000. They don’t hold back when they send their cattle to this offering, and this set is the real deal! Thank y’all for choosing us to help market your cattle through our Cream of the Crop sales. It has been a lot of fun being a part of your success.
PHILLIP RENNER FAMILY Phillip was a family man to the fullest. No one more proud of his kids and especially grandkids. Phillip liked good cattle, wanting nothing more than to raise the best for his granddkids. He purchased some of the very best we had to offer, building up an exceptional donor cow lineup to branch off of. It was extremely special to watch his goals for these cattle go into motion. He purchased the COC 1139 Donor as a bred heifer that went on to raise the $52,500 Lautner Denver display and heavily promoted AI sire, COC Trump, his $29,500 full brother and multiple high selling sisters in this sale last year. His son, Rhett, and son-in-law, Leonard, have now picked up the torch on what Phillip first started. No one gets one fed like Leonard, and we can’t wait to see all these grandkids be successful over the years with COC genetics. If only there were more folks like Phillip, this country would be in a whole lot better shape. We are grateful for the time we had with our friend and the example he set for all of us. ROBERT & DAVID VALLEJO CATTLE CO. Over the past few years, they have arrived early, looked til dark and done lots of homework to pick out some of our very best…like their Lifeline x 524 cow and Donor 61 HooDoo, the mother of No Apologies and the half interest $29,500 bull prospect. They’ve added greats such as COC African King, COC Brutus, Donor 8533 and her clone and too many to count that are going to push their program’s production over the top in the coming years. Watch for their progeny out of these greats in upcoming COC sales.
TWO BAR X RANCH Jeffery Sanchez has an extremely progressive operation in Rio Grande City filled to the brim with COC genetics. He has been coming up for many years and taking some of the top end back to his Two Bar X Ranch. Several of them have made it to his donor pen, one of which is the 1359 cow, who is the mother of one of the stoutest black bulls on our place ever, Escalade. Jeffery raised the 2018 Reserve Champion Maine at the

RYAN SCHROEDER In our COC Female Sale, Ryan purchased a bred heifer for $2,800. Her first calf was born unassisted, trouble free and was the Reserve Champion Angus Steer in San Antonio. Congratulations—that is how it is supposed to work! SCHEETZ CATTLE CO. Jason Scheetz of Fort Madison, Iowa, purchased a $26,000 Lead On x 448 Donor as a bred heifer. She is now well over the $100,000 mark in progeny sales, producing the Grand Steer at the State Fair of Texas and countless high sellers over the years. SHAFFER CHAROLAIS Doug, Judy, Will and Kate from Carthage, Missouri, have had great success with our PB Charolais show heifers. The first was a Fire Water x Donor 6017 PB HooDoo that claimed the AICA Show Heifer of the Year, winning the Missouri State Fair, Kansas City and Denver. The second, a Fire Water x HooDoo Prince Z2056, was the Charolais Junior National Champion Owned Female. They have done a tremendous job taking our genetics to the backdrop. SID ROBINSON & TOMMY BYRD They pack some of our very best back to East Texas with them year after year. Tommy Byrd bought “COC Trail Boss” when he re-sold through our Cream of the Crop Sale. The first two steers they sold out of him brought $18,000, a bred heifer sold in our fall COC sale for $14,000 out of a COC female and several other top sellers. Sid Robinson purchased one of our best lookin, all-time favorites, “COC Freaknique.” He has since sired several outstanding females selling for up to $12,000. They have put together a whale of a set of COC females and have set themselves up for great success in the future. Check out Sid’s front pasture female in this offering. SULLIVAN FARMS John Sullivan purchased a sight-unseen half interest heifer for $8,000. Several years later, the legendary Donor 410 has blown the doors off of the $300,000 mark in sales. She is the dam of Troubadour and 14 of his full brothers averaging $18,500. Bred heifers have been top sellers in this sale countless times and are becoming some of the best producers in the industry. Check out the Troubadour section of the catalog…it speaks mountains about her impact on this program. SULLIVAN RANCH Dan Sullivan has been a COC customer for a long time. He has successfully sold as many high sellers as anyone in the business. Several of his COC females have made it to his elite donor lineup. His COC Lizzy 2069 has been one of his best investments to date. He purchased her for $24,000; she is now over the $300,000 mark in sales and still producing. She has paid for herself over a dozen times— that’s what we like to hear! Watch for our IVF Troubadour and Maverick offspring from COC HooDoo Lizzy. THE COC HOODOOS OF WEST TEXAS Eugene and Scott Fullwood of Roscoe, Texas, have loaded up with females and bulls from our COC sales. They have made a hand at producing the kind of calves in high demand. They purchased a COC Lot 4 HooDoo who raised a steer that they sold for $12,000 and then raised a San Antonio Reserve Limi. Fullwoods also purchased COC Lot 62 HooDoo, who raised a San Antonio Champion Limi for Fullwoods before reselling her for $25,000. She then raised a San Antonio Reserve Grand Steer. All their COC females produced great results, with over 20 calves making the sale at Texas majors. Check out their heifer in this offering that stems from a rich COC heritage. Thank y’all for taking our genetics to their maximum potential.

THE GRAY FAMILY Ricky and Sierra have been some of our best customers and friends over the last 30 years. They have been great partners on some of our very best bulls like Yellow Jacket, Polar Ice, Banshee, Frost Proof and Torque and the red PB Simi high seller last fall, COC Limit Up, to name a few. They have put some of our best bulls on some of the best females in the business. This family operation has raised as many high sellers and winning cattle as anyone over the years through this sale. They’ve put together an excellent set in this offering from Ada, Oklahoma.
KENNY PATIN, DVM Kenny has purchased some of our very best over the years. His COC full sister to Troubadour rang the bell last spring, more than paying for herself after producing the $12,500 highlight in the S & S Sale. It’s been fun to watch him take these females home and succeed.
SUNDAY’S BEST Dan Kyle, who is well known for his Sunday’s Best Club Calf Sales, has several top COC females that now reside in his ET program and have raised several of his champions and high sellers. Dan was one of the first to purchase semen on our $52,500 COC African King. He mated him to his COC Lot 1 Picante x WG and raised the 2018 Walker County Fair Grand Steer and his 2019 high seller. Thank you for trusting in our genetics, and congratulations! TRI-S RANCH Mike and Kent Speer have been adding the very best COC females each year to their progressive program. Just about all of them have been some of our best lookin, well bred high sellers. They take them on into their donor pen, and their progeny pay for themselves many times over within their first ET calves. They raised the 2019 Houston Champion Simmi Steer that was a barn favorite. Watch for his sisters and other outstanding breds from the top of the Tri-S program in this elite offering, all of which are out of COC females they have in their ET program. It will be worth your drive just to see them. That’s our goal…to produce cattle that will make our customers a big profit.
VERNON, TEXAS Between GERALD HASELOFF, LARRY KIESCHNICK and BOBBY MATUS, the three neighbors have
put Vernon, Texas, on the map! Their COC calves have been champions at every major steer show in Texas! Gerald Haseloff has been a great partner with us on some of the best Hereford bulls in the industry for over 20 years. He has kept females out of them and has consistently dominated the Hereford majors, winning them not once but multiple times. Larry Kieschnick has been a longtime COC customer of flat good cattle, purchasing some of our best producing females and bulls of all breeds and colors and raising the kind in high demand for decades. Semen from one of the best Larry has ever raised, “Battleship,” sells in this sale (see page 34) along with a top son. Bobby Matus has been crossing our COC bulls on some of the best Hereford females in the business. He has been retaining those females for over a decade and raising competitive steers and high sellers in the industry. All three have allowed us to market their calf crops for over 15 years, and it has been a fun ride. They put in the long hours it takes, and we love to see their cattle be successful.
KORKY WISE started out buying some of the best COC females available. Their progeny and replacement progeny have had a major influence on how his operation has produced so many champions over the years.

BRENT & BRENNAN WILLIAMS The Decatur, Texas, crew has purchased several nice COC females to add to their club calf operation. They purchased a COC Lot 250, whose first calf was a San Angelo Champion Middle Weight Hereford. This is why we invest a great deal of time and money into the best built herd bulls possible without sacrificing calving ease. Good buy! THE RUEBEN GARCIA FAMILY They made the trip to Crawford and bought a couple of nice bred females. Their first calf crop was nothing short of an exciting time at the 2019 San Antonio Steer Show when their Cream of the Crop-bred steer was crowned Champion Red Angus. He snagged a phenomenal Shorthornmarked COC Free Bird son that he calls COC Red Bird. He was
