14th Annual Fall
BULL & BRED HEIFER SALE
Monday, October 29
Welcome to the Sale
WE AT BLACK HEREFORD RANCH would like to personally invite each and every one of you to our 14th Annual Fall Cream of the Crop Bull & Bred Heifer Sale. Thank you for taking your time to sit down and go through this offering. With dozens of sale catalogs hitting your mailbox this time of year and endless online sales, I know how time consuming it can be looking for the type of cattle that fit your outfit. If you study these pages, you will realize what sets us apart from the crowd. You can make the drive with confidence, expecting high quality. This is one of our stoutest and best groups that we have assembled to date. We cull hard on soundness, attitude and quality throughout the year to bring you all of our best, through both our summer and fall COC sales. We don’t keep the best and sell the rest. We hold nothing back. There aren’t many outfits that can truthfully give their customers their word on that! That’s why we have one of the longest standing annual production sales of champion, club calf producing females and bulls in the country year after year. We are very proud of the success that our Cream of the Crop herd bull lineup has had over the years. There are too many to list that have sired major champions and sale topping high sellers from coast to coast. Predictability and marketability have been bred into them for 40 years. The AI and herd sires we are offering will make it easier for your cow herd to be consistent profit makers, and vice versa. The females we are offering you will make it easier for your herd bull to sire a deeper quality calf crop. For 40 years, we have engineered the sound, deep, wide bodied, stout hipped and very attractive type of cattle by stacking our pedigrees with this kind since our very beginning. We are honored that some of the most prestigious club calf outfits in the country have had their start here or have added on to their existing herds with COC genetics that have helped them kick their production into a higher gear. Our goal is to produce profit maker cattle. Those kind of cattle have what it takes to create repeat customers, and repeat customers are what have made this an industry leading sale for the past 13 years. We have sold 30 Grand or Reserve Grand Steers at the Texas and Oklahoma major shows, 12 at Houston alone, and over 100 Breed or Reserve Breed Champions plus too many County and District Show Champions to keep track of. If you put the pencil to paper on what all COC bulls and females have produced for our customers, you can almost double that figure. Our genetics are potent, and our focus is on producing the kind that are in big demand and ahead of their time and, most importantly, the kind that provide big profits for our customers. This catalog is mostly lotted together by cow families and COC herd sire groups, with a large majority of the offering being straight Black Hereford Ranch bred. Our pedigrees are loaded for generations, and they can go anywhere and fit in with the best, taking your operation to whole new heights. This is a unique event like none other. It is often imitated but never duplicated. If you’re serious about this business, we hope you will join us Monday, October 29th, and let us help you Raise Your Own Champions! Thank You,

FALL CREAM OF THE CROP BULL & BRED HEIFER SALE | 2 | MONDAY, OCTOBER 29, 2018…CRAWFORD, OKLAHOMA
Ranch History
When Kris was in the first grade, his grandfather Frank “Shorty” Gilliland gave him a purebred Polled Hereford heifer. Kris kept the females as replacements, and by the time he graduated, he had a small group of cows that were the original foundation of what is now Black Hereford Ranch. Shorty’s family homesteaded the acreage that was previously the Gilliland Hereford Ranch for G.L. and Shorty Gilliland. One of the original homes still remains in use today as a ranch house. Neighbors tell stories of helping Shorty load his tack and cattle onto train cars, riding with the cattle, traveling to shows as far off as the World Beef Expo in Kentucky. They put on a number of Polled Hereford production sales over the years. Unfortunately due to health reasons, Shorty had to disperse most of his cow herd. The year Kris graduated, Shorty had a stroke that left him handicapped. Kris put a halt to college plans and moved to Crawford to work for Shorty until his passing a few years later.
Hereford followed by a Tulsa Reserve Grand Champion Steer with a Hereford. He continued to add color to his crop, and in 1993 he had a black baldy Power Plant son that was Reserve Grand at Houston, raised by our late friend Frank Johnson. In 1994, Frank bought a Power Plant x Chi cow and called Kris to ask what to breed her to…a year later, Habanero was born. They were our first to break the $20,000 barrier, and 23 years later Habanero is still making a direct impact. Kris knows the ups and downs to starting out in this business and has thoroughly enjoyed helping people from all different

SALE TERMS & GUARANTEES
C R E A M of the C R O P
TERMS OF SALE
FEMALE BREEDING GUARANTEE
Terms of sale are cash or check to the clerk at the conclusion of the auction. Animals are not to leave until paid for in full.
Safe in calf females have been examined by our veterinarians. All females declared safe in calf will have a projected calving date or date range printed on the sale day supplement. All projected due dates are best estimates only and not guaranteed. Please remember that it is normal to give birth throughout the two weeks either side of their projected due date. If a pregnant female proves to be open by a licensed veterinarian within 45 days of this sale and is returned to the seller within 60 days at the buyer’s expense, the buyer may choose between a full credit refund of equal value, to be used within the next year’s COC sales, or choose to keep the female with a $600 adjustment.
BULL BREEDING GUARANTEE All bulls in this offering have been fertility and trichomoniasis tested by our veterinarians at Ellis County Animal Hospital, Circle M Veterinary and Scott Sturgeon D.V.M. and are guaranteed to be breeders, with the exception of a) injury or disease occurring after the time of sale; or b) gross negligence or willful misconduct on the part of the purchaser. Any bull that settles cows by natural service is considered a breeder.
RETAINED INTEREST IN BULLS Ownership: Unless otherwise stated in the catalog, we are selling full possession, full salvage value and 2/3 revenue sharing semen interest. This means the bull is totally in your control as to how you want to handle him, as well as 100% of the salvage value of the bull. We are retaining 1/3 revenuesharing semen interest. This simply gives us the right to 1/3 of the semen sales revenue from the bull, if at some time in the future semen sales become a possibility. If you sell the bull to anyone else, Black Hereford Ranch retains our semen interest and revenue sales. If a buyer is not interested in marketing the semen from a bull, then Black Hereford Ranch reserves the right to collect a semen bank on the bull at our cost and the buyer’s convenience within a timely manner. That semen would be 100% owned by Black Hereford Ranch for our use or marketing. Realistically speaking, the reason Black Hereford Ranch retains an interest in every bull is that we want to keep it simple, and we have great bulls throughout the offering. The bulls that do develop a market for larger amounts of semen can be very financially rewarding; therefore, as a breeder of some of the best seed stock in the industry, we want to share with you in these bulls. Even bulls that aren’t originally promoted can become popular at a later time, especially after calf crops prove successful. We want to be a great partner with you. Semen Rights: Buyers receive semen rights proportionally to the interest that is purchased. A 1/3 semen interest, and 1/3 of all semen sales, is retained on all bulls unless otherwise stated in the catalog or supplement sheet or announced from the block the day of the sale. Therefore, if you purchase 2/3 revenue sharing semen interest, you are entitled to 2/3 of the collection semen cost provided that you indicate that you want semen prior to collection. Future semen collections must be made known to all owners prior to collecting. The collections and cost will be divided according to each owner’s interest, unless otherwise agreed upon mutually by all owners prior to collection of said semen.
PROTECTING YOUR INVESTMENT We did our best to use the best low birth weight sires available on the bred heifers. We don’t have many calving problems, but we check them every three to four hours around the clock close to due dates. After they leave our operation, we have no control, and they’re livelihood is now your ownership. We highly recommend you take out insurance on your purchases. This is a safe way to protect your investment on both females and bulls.
RETAINED INTEREST IN FEMALES Black Hereford Ranch RETAINS THE RIGHT TO PARTNER ON TWO SUCCESSFUL FLUSHES ON ALL COC FEMALES. A successful flush is defined as producing at least eight eggs per partner. If you sell the female to anyone else, Black Hereford Ranch still retains our right to partner on two successful flushes. If a buyer is not interested in flushing the female, then Black Hereford Ranch reserves the right to two successful flushes on the female at our cost and the buyer’s convenience within a timely manner.
FUTURE HEALTH CARE RECOMMENDATIONS The stress of hauling and relocating your COC purchases can weaken their immune system, so we recommend keeping a good eye on them daily for the two weeks after you get them home. See page 8 for our complete herd health protocol. The 12–18 month old bulls can be used with great success, but we recommend to turn out one cow per bull’s month of age for best results. These young bulls are still growing and losing their teeth and may need a little extra care at the end of their first breeding season.

Made Right
Made Right was born 16 years ago and is still dominating Hereford steer shows all over the country. No other sire comes close to his track record of producing champions and high sellers. His sire, dam and granddam were all raised here. In 2016 alone, Made Right sired six of the ten major show champions in Texas. The female mates to these champions are making phenomenal producers. Made Right is deceased, and the tanks are running very low. Check out his grandsons selling October 29th!

It’s hard to make a Hereford that is this up headed and attractive with this amount of depth, width and thickness. Third Time’s A Charm has solid Made Right bones under him that can flat get out and travel. He not only has the muscle, power and shape to his hip, butt and top to sire slick shear champions all day long but also had the hair it takes to produce the kind you need to get ‘er done in Cow Town. However, this isn’t just an opportunity to own a pretty picture. To catch you up on the happenings of the last 40 years, the track record behind this crew is simply second to none. Third Time’s A Charm’s phenomenal dam is a full sister to the winningest Hereford show steer sire of all time, Made Right (who has sired more champion Herefords the last 12 years than all of the rest combined), making TTAC triple bred to one of the most influential females to ever walk our pastures—the one and only Donor 9929. She is the dam of Made Right, 1039, Above and Beyond and more good ones in her 15 years than we were able to keep track of. 9929 “was country when country wasn’t cool.” Third Time’s A Charm is sired by one of the most intriguing Hereford show steer sires that we have had the privilege of sending through a COC sale ring. Double Made topped our 2017 Summer Sale and is now at work in 1Eleven Cattle’s progressive operation. Over our career, we’ve been fortunate enough to have names like Made Right, Carpe Diem, Easy Jett, H12, Captain II, Cannon, Ace, 351, Deadliest Catch, Right Choice, Dakota Spud, 357 Magnum, Timex, Cannon, Dakota, Spud, 4114, 4114 Made, Tiger, L127, Sniper, Cotton Mouth, SS, Goose, Duck, 30-06, Shotgun, JWR, Wasp, Hold On, Outer Limits, Ten Killer, One Time and many others who have all made their debut right here in Crawford before they went out to impact the Hereford show steer industry forever. Third Time’s A Charm packs the looks and parentage to go the distance!

For 10 consecutive years we made the trip to Cody, Wyoming, where George Brown allowed us the opportunity to have first pick of nearly 20,000 weaned heifer calves on the HooDoo Ranch. We got to hand pick out of 2,000 heifer calves a year, but there was never another one quite like HooDoo Phylli. She was the stoutest of the 1,500 we bought and brought back to Crawford. She is the dam of Yellow Jacket, Polar Ice, J10 and many other outstanding progeny.

Way stout, sound movin, big backed and boned with lots of belly and rib shape. An ET son of a good old PB HooDoo. Donor 127 is one of our top PB HooDoo donors that we have been mass produce flushing at Mike Mimms’ ET facility this year to our straight HooDoo-bred bulls to keep the blood flowin. However, after watching her grow and mature, she will need tried back to our good halfblood HooDoo sire Double Wide.
Double Wide
The widest bodied white bull we have ever witnessed. We are fortunate to have had the opportunity to use him in his latter years before his work began for Lehne Farms. He is out of a tremendous PB HooDoo donor that has been a whale of a producer for us and is sired by one of our best, Yello Repo. He is bred to make females, and he didn’t disappoint.

African King
African Queen is a COC big leaguer and remains our highest selling bred heifer to date. This meat wagon has had more good ones than we have been able to keep track of. Eight steers from her first flush alone averaged $20,000. She is the dam of the $52,500 COC African King and countless other high sellers, well exceeding the $250,000 mark in progeny sales. She has done one heckuva job for us.

Troubadour
Troubadour has proven time and time again to make tremendous sons and daughters—the kind we’re all striving to produce. He is deceased and very little semen still exists on him. His daughters are some of the very best champion producers you’ll find anywhere. He consistently stamps them with unmistakable class and style. His sons have proven to take the heat as champion caliber show steers and bulls that produce the kind that make people want to get in this business. Dr. Dave Duello purchased Lot 1, Hoss, our high seller through this sale in 2016. We had the full fledge confidence to AI, flush and cleanup with Hoss that fall, and his first calf crop was everything we had hoped for and then some. Dave’s first five Hoss calves sold this fall brought from $7,500 to $15,000 and were flat good. We also flushed and AI’d to our fall 2016 Lot 2, Renegade, and his calves are exciting. We can’t wait to breed back to these two powerhouses and AI to many of their paternal brothers in this offering. Troubadour’s outstanding dam has produced over $300,000 in progeny sales. Troubadour stamps them with an unmistakable style.

This is one incredible purebred Angus bull! We used him on big groups of COC heifers for three years, turned out with several other Angus bulls with great results. You won’t find a better looking Angus bull with this set of numbers to go with him. Take a hard look at the maternal capacity of his pedigree. The Coleman 386 cow is his granddam, and she is the mother of Coleman 714, the $290,000-valued female from that very maternal program in Montana. This pedigree is one of the best there is to produce moderate, big ribbed, easy keepin, great uddered, low input females. This bull is good footed, extremely sound and has many miles left in him to produce the kind we all hunt for.

Body on body on body! Way cool necked and can travel with the best of them. He is sure footed, square hipped and packing plenty of muscle. He has all the calving ease numbers to please and all the eye appeal to use on a wide variety of females. This 10X son is out of another great cow from the famed Donna family that derives from one of the best maternal-oriented Angus herds in the country. His maternal granddam is Donna J311, who is also the granddam of the $290,000 Coleman Donna 714. His dam’s sire, Hero 6267, is one of the best to sire front pasture females that produce. His sire has been at the top of the Angus breed registry for several years.
We have used these mature registered Angus bulls selling as Lots 70 –73 with great results. They are as eye appealing, stout and athletic as you’ll find anywhere. The only reason we are selling them is because they are now just a little too heavy to be using on 800 lb. yearling heifers. They are all huge bodied, big square hipped, easy keepin and have more muscle than you expect from a purebred Angus. They are in the prime of their life and are tremendous on their feet and legs. They have not been overfed and are all in great shape. I wouldn’t be scared to give them 40 cows apiece and turn them out in rough country. They are that hearty.
You can attend a pile of registered Angus sales and not find a better lookin group than these. They are the type and kind to raise champion caliber Angus show steers and females that you can build a great cow herd around. Their EPDs are all plenty good, and we have not had any negative issues with any of them. We just hope we can find some more like them that we can turn out with heifers this fall. We put a good deal of miles and did lots of homework to put this set together, and it won’t be any easier to try to replace them. They are the kind you can use for three to four more years to build a fantastic set of females around and easily raise champion Angus show steers along the way. When Sally Carwile called and said she needed a new herd bull because she had kept daughters from her 2014 COC Lot 21, I said bring him on! He was one of the best out of our group that year, and his dam was too the year she sold. She was the $35,000 Lead On daughter that was out of one of the best producing cows ever at Black Hereford Ranch. Her dam was way before her time, producing over $200,000 in her career—she was none other than our Donor 524. She is the mother of Tank, Red Rooster, Yellow Rooster, 524 Gold and several $10,000 to $35,000 bred heifers. This yellow powerhouse has matured into one of the best. He is still real good on his feet and legs and has several years left in him as a proven producer.

Spring Bred Females We are proud to offer you the top half of our spring bred heifers. Our motto is “We don’t keep the best and sell the rest.” We culled hard and believe there is a special place for each of these females as a breeding piece to improve a wide variety of programs. All breeds and colors are represented, and most all link back to genetics that have been proven time and time again. The top end of these females are without question donor quality, with the bottom end still being better than the top end of most sales across the country. We have culled hard on feet, legs, udder development and quality for generations. They will all be wide bodied, good hipped, easy keepin and sound. They are guaranteed bred to a great set of low birth weight registered Red Angus bulls. They will begin calving the end of March and will be finished by the end of May. Most all of the heifers will be videoed prior to the sale and will be available for online viewing. Their projected due dates and supplemental information will be provided the week of the sale. From top to bottom, these females will not disappoint. All lots are available for viewing at the ranch any time between now and sale day. This cow has proven herself to produce clubby champions and high sellers. She is built to raise the type and kind of PB show heifers in high demand. She is due to calve in April and by June could be putting eggs in your tank. She is an investment piece, with marketability through and through her calves as well as genetics if you’re on the hunt for quick returns. We’ve built an exceptional group of purebred Charolais foundation females directly around George Brown’s PB HooDoo blood. Their presence in not only the club calf industry but also in the registered purebred world has undoubtedly rocked the boat for the better for the Charolais breed as a whole for generations to come. Fast forward to 2018, and finding a straight HooDoo-bred Charolais is extremely rare…finding one of this measure that is this cool, stout, deep and wide is near impossible. She is sound to the ground, perfect sized and will make an awesome addition to build a cow herd around.

Easy Jett
A Hereford like never before!
We get told frequently, “Y’all need to raise another Made Right.” We usually chuckle as we remind them that we need an outcross for all of the Made Right daughters we have collected over the years. We hear a lot of chattering about the fact that “most folks are only given one life-changing great one in their lifetime,” and in our minds, Made Right was that gift, but there’s a new bull in his rear view coming up fast. God’s handiwork has completely covered Easy Jett’s entire being, and he’s proof there are no limitations to his willpower. His namesake speaks magnitudes of how high we are on his potential. Walter Merrick produced a racehorse that was far ahead of his time in 1967 who, like our Easy Jett, is also a Crawford, OK, native. Merrick sent him out of 26 starting gates as a two-year-old and came out of 22 victorious within his first career year, including the All-American. The next year he was the Champion Racing Stallion of the Year and sold for $3.5 million; he was then syndicated for $300 million in the early eighties. He put Crawford, OK, on the map. COC Easy Jett was born unassisted to a dang nice first-calf heifer in 2014, whose second crop produced our high selling Highway 33, third crop produced a real nice heifer and her fourth heifer without a doubt has the ability to top next summer’s sale. Donor 1685 has been a no-miss profit maker that undeniably passes that trait on heavily. One-half interest in Easy Jett sold in our 2015 Bull Sale to Bradley and Jett Hale of Miami, TX. Jett Hale isn’t your average 10-year-old…his work
COC Easy Jett
ethic at our sale is second to none for his age. Congratulations to Jett on exhibiting the 2018 Houston Reserve Grand Steer! Bradley and Kris both AI’d, flushed and cleaned up cows with Easy Jett that fall and spring with confidence. Easy Jett’s first calf crop of steers laid the foundation of everything we expected and then some. Every single Easy Jett steer we sold last spring, except for one, branded at a Texas major this spring. Bradley’s first choice picks from his past two calf crops have been Easy Jetts. He thought enough of them to only let two sell through his offering at Donors Unlimited this spring. The Easy Jetts have had a successful summer and fall of jackpots and fairs, including winning three of the four Hereford banners at the West Texas Fair Steer Show, Hereford State Show Grand Steer, Decatur Grand Champion Overall Steer, Tri-State Fair Reserve Hereford, Coleman Champion Polled, Panhandle Parade of Breeds Champion, Reserve Champion Ring B and Reserve Champion Ring A. “Ya, I’m over here at the Carpenter place. I think Easy Jett’s broken his leg.” Unfortunately in the spring of 2017 Easy Jett sustained an injury that most vets chalked up as a complete loss, but Dr. Gary Warner and his team of specialists at Elgin, TX, took it head on. We are very fortunate to have him back in our lineup; however, since he is still in recovery, we have decided that no semen will be released to the public for the remainder of 2018. He has matured into one stout, massive bodied phenomenon. Never have we ever had a sire group this deep, this quick, not even when the winningest Hereford show steer sire of all time, Made Right, who has been in the record books for 16 years, was in his prime production. Mark your calendar: Selling 200 units of semen Saturday, June 8, 2019!

Customer Success!
COC
We don’t keep the best and sell the rest. We offer you our all, and not many can truthfully say this! Many customers can testify that there are good cattle at bargain prices throughout the entirety of our sales. Many pay for themselves within their first calf crop, and several have turned into money-earning donors or promotable herd sires. The following success stories merely scratch the surface of what these genetics are capable of. Make plans to join us October 29th. You won’t be disappointed! 5M RANCH Raul Martinez purchased half interest in a bonafide good $39,000 Yellow Jacket daughter that you will hear us refer to as “African Queen.” In her very first flush, she produced eight steers that averaged $20,000. She has steadily been a successful producer of high selling good ones. At age nine she produced the $52,500 “African King.” She has done us a heckuva job and has produced more than we’ve been able to keep track of! BIRD CATTLE CO. Brandon Bird has assembled a group of the very best females and bulls from all over the country. Brandon has a good eye and has invested in some of the best our program has had to offer over the years. A clone to the dam of his outrageously cool lookin COC “Peaches” Donor, whose over the top proven donor dam resides in this offering. He purchased COC Exacto, whose top nine calves averaged over $13,000. He wisely added COC Free Bird, the stoutest full brother to Troubadour to date, to his lineup. His steer progeny have brought up to $15,000, a $17,500 heifer this spring and then his COC sons now being promoted as the $28,000 Strait Bankin and the $12,000 Red Bird, racks up his progeny earnings on a limited calf crop. BIRKHEAD CATTLE CO. James Birkhead has been coming to our COC Female Sale since the first year we started having it. He has bought some of our best we have had to offer each year and has marketed their offspring through our COC sales with tremendous success. He has done his homework and put together a premier herd that we look forward to their crop every year.
BUTCHEE FAMILY The John D. and Dillon Butchee family have been COC customers for years and are proof that you don’t have buy the top sellers to “Raise Your Own Champions.” They come early and stay late, doing their homework on the back pens. They purchased one of the youngest, most immature females in the sale that was the first calf out of a high seller a couple years ago for $1,500. They laughed all the way to the bank when that green, well bred female produced a $10,000 steer this spring. “You always say to do your homework, so that’s what we do!” – John D. HALE CATTLE CO. Bradley and Jett Hale have been consistently raising Herefords that are hard to beat. If you study their pedigrees, many of them are rich in Black Hereford Ranch blood, including Made Right, Carpe Diem, Shot Gun, Cannon, Wasp and Outer Limits. In the past two years, they have added two more of our names to their list. They purchased Easy Jett in 2015 and were fired up enough about his calves that they came back and bought his maternal brother Highway 33 in our bull sale. The top pick of their calves the last two springs were Easy Jetts. Easy Jett sired three of the four banners at the West Texas Fair this fall and both at the Tri-State Fair. We are excited about having a partner who confidently used Easy Jett on some of the best Hereford cows in the country. CLARK AND SHACKELFORD Ernest Clark and Wade Shackelford purchased a $3,500 Tiger daughter as a bred heifer. She has since generated well over $200,000 in sales and has produced all of their champions and high sellers…a testament that not all super producers are up in the front pens. These guys did their homework, and it has consistently paid off.
FALL CREAM OF THE CROP BULL & BRED HEIFER SALE | 58 | MONDAY, OCTOBER 29, 2018…CRAWFORD, OKLAHOMA
COC CUSTOMER SUCCESS DAVIS CATTLE CO. Champ Davis bought some of the best of what we had to offer from the time we started. We are thankful for the time and friendship we had with this great cattleman. His son, Neal Ray, and daughter Nacy have continued to do what Davis Cattle Co. is good at — raising the good ones. Many of the Cream of the Crop females Champ and Neal Ray have purchased still remain in their donor pen. Yello Repo, Easy Street, Freeze Frame, a stout full brother to Carpe Diem and some of the best roam their pastures. Neal Ray’s and Nacy’s offering in this sale are deep in quality and rich with our genetics. They’ve done a great job carrying on what Champ started. DAY SHOW CATTLE Ricky and Rusty Day have sold as many winners and high selling Hereford steers as any. They have been volume buyers of Made Right semen, and many of their highlights have been sired by him. They purchased a COC 30-06 ET open heifer that they call “Donor P254” for $3,500. P254’s first group of calves grossed $50,000. She has produced so many $100,000s in sales that they’ve lost track on her earnings. She has produced steers that have brought up to $42,500, has had Champions at all of the Texas major steer shows, and they’ve retained all of her daughters within their cow herd. They believe in her consistency enough that they have cloned her, and she is repeating P254’s success yet again! In 2008 they bought a bull from us that we called O’Reilly. He is long gone, but his legacy lives on. We would like to commend them on putting O’Reilly’s daughters to work. Congratulations to Riggin Day on his State Fair of Texas Reserve Division Black Cross this month, out of a tremendous O’Reilly female at Day’s. DONORS UNLIMITED The 2018 Donors Unlimited Sale in the Beef Capitol of the World had a great group of females and consignors. In the Hereford division of the catalog, 90% or better were COC genetics on one or both sides of their pedigrees as well as in some of the other divisions too. Congratulations on a very successful sale, and thank you for continuing to trust in our genetics. DWIGHT NIESCHWITZ Dwight has been making the trip from Pleasonton, Texas, to our female and club calf sales for years. It has paid off! Congratulations to Dwight for raising the 2017 San Antonio Reserve Champion Gert, a Charolais that made the sale in Houston and has more coming for next year. They were from the first calf crop from his “COC In The Zone,” a No Spin Zone son that he purchased from us in 2014. GLOVER CATTLE CO. Bruce and Dustin Glover have been repeat volume buyers for their progressive club calf operation over the years. However, their most recent success we owe a large congratulations to is for their Made Right semen purchases. To say their 0545 Donor has clicked with COC Made Right would be an understatement. She has produced over $300,000 in Made Right progeny sales, including the 2016 Champion Fort Worth Polled Steer, $76,000 Battle Cry, $10,000 War Paint and the 2016 and 2017 Oklahoma Youth Expo Champion Herefords. GREGG KROUPA CLUB CALVES Greg Kroupa has purchased several leading Cream of the Crop females and bulls over the years. The Cream of the Crop 159 Donor he purchased for $10,000 has now produced over $300,000 in progeny sales. Carpe Diem, Freeze Frame and MOAB are just a few that have been wonderful investments for his program as well. We are excited for the MOAB calves he had this spring. HORN LIVESTOCK In 1999, Brandon decided to give this club calf business a try. He purchased a $2,000 Festus x Donor #1, a full sister to our Champion Charolais at San Antonio and a maternal sister to Blanco and Benny. She became the first original foundation female of what has now become the Horn Livestock empire. She still has a major impact on their program, as she is the dam of his Donor 750, who produced Jagger’s 2017 Houston Grand Steer and is the dam of his highly promoted “Generator” AI sire. We are looking forward to seeing you get the most success out of the other COC females you have purchased over the past 18 years. Proud for ya, Brandon! KENNEDY BROTHERS Brian and Dennis Kennedy have had great success with their Cream of the Crop females and herd sires. Their COC females have produced five Reserve Grand steers, and their two herd sires COC Junior and COC Shamrock sired two more at the Houston Livestock Show. Their latest was the 2017 Houston Reserve Grand Steer, whose granddam was the first COC HooDoo cow they purchased from us.

MIKE MATTEARUE Congratulations to Mike Mattearue on raising the 2015 Grand Champion Steer at the Nacogdoches County Show, sired by their 2012 COC Lot 26 Carpe Diem son. You will be hearing more from this operation in the years to come. MIMMS CATTLE CO. Mike Mimms has been collecting some good stuff from our COC sales for several years. He knows what he is doing and has picked out some outstanding producers over the years. COC Red Rooster is now roaming his pastures and doing him a great job. COC H624, COC 903W and COC 428 (full sib to Yellow Jacket) are just a few of his most notable COC picks. Mike has also been one of our top volume buyers of Made Right semen over the years. There’s not a better, harder workin guy to see succeeding with our genetics! MITCH AND HAYES HALL Mitch and Hayes have been longtime, valuable COC customers. Hayes showed steers and did his fair share of winning, and since then they have purchased several top bulls and females while building up a very progressive program in Anson, Texas. They have raised several very successful calves out of them so far. Their COC George son sired the 2016 State Fair of Texas Reserve Grand Steer. Year after year, they have been keeping the daughters out of their COC Godfather son. “They are good lookin and have been great producers,” Mitch said. One of them raised the 2017 Houston Champion Limi. We often hear parents say that they wouldn’t trade their years of showing with their kids for anything. This father–son duo is carrying on that tradition and now Raising Their Own Champions! PARKER CATTLE CO. Charlie and Casey Parker have been long time, repeat customers of some of the very best females and bulls we have had to offer. They purchased their 385 HooDoo Donor in our 2008 COC Female Sale for $5,400. She has since proven her weight in gold, raising the COC 2015 Houston Grand Champion Steer and several outstanding COC sale highlights. They purchased the Lot 33 Made Right son in our 2014 Bull Sale, called “Movin A’Head.” The Parker boys come early, stay late and do a lot of homework at our sales, and their dedication pays off. Their first three sons of Movin A’Head brought $35,000, and another brought $20,000 last fall! They don’t hold back when they send their cattle to this offering year after year, and their set is the real deal! Thank y’all for choosing us to help market your cattle through our Cream of the Crop sales. It has been a lot of fun being a part of your success. PHILLIP RENNER has invested in some of our very best over the past few years, and no one has raised high sellers as well as he has since. Phillip was a partner and friend that we all miss. He instilled a passion in his sons and grandsons that are building to the fire he started, and we welcome them aboard to his great success with COC progeny. The Troubadour daughter he purchased in 2013 produced the co-high selling 2015 COC bull Trump, who sold for $52,500 to Phil Lautner, Harlan Yocham and Melinda Olsen. This year she produced a full brother to Trump that brought $28,500. Phillip also purchased a Monopoly daughter in 2013 that produced a $15,000 J10 son in 2015 and a $28,000 son in 2016. Donors that have paid for themselves with one calf, and we are excited about the future of these two young cows. ROBERT VALLEJO CATTLE CO. Over the past few years, Robert has arrived early, looked til dark and does lots of homework to pick out some of our very best…like his Lifeline x 524 cow and his Donor 61 HooDoo, the mother of No Apologies and the half interest $29,500 bull prospect. Donor 61 has a stout offering in this group that only adds to her deep résumé. He has an outstanding set of full sibs in this offering. We are very excited for the future of Robert, Lewis and Joan Wood’s half interest $52,500 “African King” bull’s progeny. His COC full brother to Troubadour, “Brutus,” is one we expect great things out of in the future! TWO BAR X RANCH Jeffery Sanchez has an extremely progressive operation in Rio Grande City filled to the brim with COC genetics. He has been coming up for many years and taking some of the top end back to his Two Bar X Ranch. Several of them have made it to his donor pen, one of which is the 1359 cow, who is the mother of one of the stoutest black bulls on our place ever, Escalade. He raised the 2018 Reserve Champion Maine at the Rio Grande Valley Show and several sale makers. If you’re in the deep South hunting a top notch show steer prospect, look him up… he will have the caliber you’re looking for. (continued on page 60)

(continued from page 59) RYAN SCHROEDER In the 2012 COC Female Sale, Ryan purchased the Lot 41 bred heifer for $2,800. Her first calf was born unassisted, trouble free and was the Reserve Champion Angus Steer in San Antonio. Congratulations—that‘s how it’s supposed to work! SCHEETZ CATTLE CO. Jason Scheetz of Fort Madison, Iowa, purchased a $26,000 Lead On x 448 Donor as a bred heifer. She is now over the $100,000 mark in progeny sales, producing a Grand Steer at the State Fair of Texas and countless high sellers over the years. SHAFFER CHAROLAIS Doug, Judy, Will and Kate from Carthage, Missouri, have had great success with our PB Charolais show heifers. The first was a Fire Water x Donor 6017 PB HooDoo that claimed the 2013–14 AICA Show Heifer of the Year, winning the Missouri State Fair, Kansas City and Denver. The second, a Fire Water x HooDoo Prince Z2056, was the 2015 Charolais Junior National Champion Owned Female. They have done a tremendous job taking our genetics to the backdrop. Watch for their purebred in the bull offering. SID ROBINSON AND TOMMY BYRD They pack some of our very best back to East Texas with them year after year. Tommy Byrd bought “COC Trailboss” when he re-sold through our 2013 Cream of the Crop Sale. The first two steers they sold out of him brought $18,000, a bred heifer sold in our fall COC sale for $14,000 out of a COC female and several other top sellers. Sid Robinson purchased one of our best lookin, all-time favorites, “COC Freaknique.” He has since sired several outstanding females selling for up to $12,000. They have put together a whale of a set of COC females and have set themselves up for future success. SULLIVAN FARMS John Sullivan purchased a sight-unseen half interest heifer in 2006 for $8,000. Eleven years later, the legendary Donor 410 has blown the doors off of the $300,000 mark in sales. She is the dam of Troubadour and 14 of his full brothers averaging $18,500. Bred heifers have been top sellers in this sale countless times and are becoming some of the best producers in the industry. She is 14 years old and still shelling out the great ones. Check out the Troubadour descendants selling…they speak mountains about her impact on this program. SULLIVAN RANCH Dan Sullivan has been a COC customer for a long time. He has successfully sold as many high sellers as anyone in the business. Several of his COC females have made it to his elite donor lineup. His COC Lizzy 2069 has been one of his best investments to date. He purchased her in 2004 for $24,000; she is now over the $300,000 mark in sales and still producing. She has paid for herself over a dozen times— that’s what we like to hear! Watch for our IVF Troubadour and Maverick offspring from COC HooDoo Lizzy. THE CASTELLAWS Toby and Jim have been longtime COC customers, and one of their latest purchases has proven to be a great investment. They purchased “El Ray,” a full brother to Troubadour that paid for himself within his first calf crop! The first four steers born out of him averaged $5,500, and the three heifers averaged $4,000. You will be hearing more from “El Ray” in the years to come! THE COC FEMALES OF WEST TEXAS Eugene and Scott Fullwood of Roscoe, Texas, have loaded up with females and bulls from our COC sales. They have made a hand at producing the kind of calves in high demand. In 2008, Fullwoods purchased the COC Lot 4 HooDoo for $10,000. She raised a steer that they sold for $12,000 before reselling COC #4 to Tim Bob Smith of Hamlin, Texas. She raised the 2013 San Antonio Reserve Limi for Smith. Fullwoods also purchased their COC Lot 62 HooDoo from us in 2008 for $7,500, renumbering her 69 in their program. She raised the 2012 San Antonio Champion Limi for Fullwoods before re-selling her to Smith for $25,000. She then raised the 2016 San Antonio Reserve Grand Steer for Smith. Dustin Glover purchased the COC Lot 16 Alias daughter in our 2010 sale for $7,750, renumbering her 0820 in their program. She raised several real nice heifers for Glover before he sold her to Smith. She raised the 2015 second place Middle Weight Chi and 2016 Fort Worth Champion Middle Weight Exotic. Tim Bob Smith has successfully flushed all three COC females with great results, with over 20 calves making the sale at Texas majors. We would like to congratulate
Drager Cattle Co. of Haskell, Texas, on a whale of an addition of these three females. They all have several years left of production to raise their best ones yet. Thank you all for taking our genetics to their maximum potential! THE GRAYS Ricky and Sierra have been some of our best customers and friends over the last 30 years. They have been great partners on some of our very best bulls like Yellow Jacket, Polar Ice, Banshee, Frost Proof and Torque, to name a few. They have put some of our best bulls on some of the best females in the business. This father/daughter operation has raised as many high sellers and winning cattle as anyone over the years through this sale. They’ve put together one of their best ever sets in this offering from Ada, Oklahoma. KENNY PATIN, D.V.M. Kenny has purchased some of our very best over the years. His COC full sister to Troubadour rang the bell this spring. She has more than paid for after producing the $12,500 highlight in the S & S sale. There’s more where he came from…Doc has a group of ET full sibs to him coming this fall. SUNDAY’S BEST Dan Kyle, who is well known for his Sunday’s Best Club Calf Sales, has several top COC females that now reside in his ET program and have raised several of his champions and high sellers. Dan was one of the first to purchase semen on our $52,500 COC African King. He mated him to his COC Lot 1 Picante x WG and raised the 2018 Walker County Fair Grand Steer. Thank you for trusting in our genetics, and congratulations! TRI-S RANCH Mike and Kent Speer have been adding the very best COC females each year to their progressive program. They have had great success with their Cream of the Crop females that they’ve purchased over the last five years. The three Troubadour, Polar Ice and Tank daughters they purchased here in 2012 for $26,250 have now collectively produced $230,700 in progeny sales! Their COC Troubadour daughter produced the 2017 LSU Grand Steer and Houston Reserve Grand Scramble Steer this year. Our goal goes much further than sale day. In 2016, they added one of our all-time favorite heifers, Lot 18, a 9970 daughter that we have high hopes for in their ET program. We do our best to raise and sell the good producing kind of cattle that will better our customers’ operations.
VERNON, TEXAS Between GERALD HASELOFF, LARRY KIESCHNICK and BOBBY MATUS, the three neighbors have put Vernon, Texas, on the map! Their COC calves have been champions at every major steer show in Texas! Gerald Haseloff has been a great partner with us on some of the best Hereford bulls in the industry for over 20 years. He has kept females out of them and has consistently dominated the Hereford majors, winning them not once but multiple times. Larry Kieschnick has been a long-term COC customer of flat good cattle, purchasing some of our best producing females and bulls of all breeds and colors and raising the kind in high demand for decades. Be on the lookout for our “Battle Ship” Hereford AI sire… one of the best Larry has ever raised, and we can’t wait to put him to work. Bobby Matushas been crossing our COC bulls on some of the best Hereford females in the business. He has been retaining those females for over a decade and raising competitive steers and high sellers in the industry. All three have allowed us to market their calf crops for over 15 years, and it has been a fun ride. They put in the long hours it takes, and we love to see their cattle be successful. KORKY WISE has put together a premier cow herd, many of which are Cream of the Crop Females or their daughters. He has raised champions at all of the Texas majors, not once but several times. Many of them were also sired by Cream of the Crop bulls. BRENT AND BRENNAN WILLIAMS This Decatur, Texas, crew has purchased several nice COC females to add to their club calf operation. They purchased the 2015 COC Lot 250, whose first calf was the 2017 San Angelo Champion Middle Weight Hereford. This is why we invest a great deal of time and money into the best built herd bulls possible without sacrificing calving ease. Good buy!
