Richard Francis-Jones of FJMT Studio emphasised on achieving high façade performance levels. Following him, Michael O’Riley of Permasteelisa shared benefits of digitally engineered solutions for project conception and execution. Frank Goudman of Renson spoke on ventilated façades for augmented quality of living. Second session opened with Oliver Ng from BG&E Façades presenting on glass procurement challenges in Australia. An interesting approach on materials and constructive solutions was shared by Valentín Tijeras García of Cosentino Group. Fred Holt from 3XN emphasized on patterns accentuating external and internal atmosphere of buildings. The session concluded with panel including PTW Architects, Arcadis, Plus Architecture, Cundall, Atelier Ten and Grün Consulting discussing on improving building sustainability and efficiency levels as per local building energy codes. Post luncheon, Grimshaw’s Andrew Cortese spoke on right balance and amalgamation of climate and landscape for construction. Li Yang of Aurecon highlighted challenges on investment options and developers coordination in high rise projects. Benjamin Hughes-Brown from Ignis Solutions spoke on façade fire testing based on the new AS5113 code. Seconding the thought, importance of fire protection for curtain walls was highlighted by Hilti’s Sam Keung. Joint presentation by Andrew Pike and Neil Weatherstone of HVG Façade Solutions highlighted rear ventilated façade systems. Steven Theron from Sika spoke on high strength glass bonding products enabling weather and fire sealing. Oliver Varley and Matthew Davidson of Inhabit group shared cues on mitigating construction risk through QA & QC assessments. Hassell’s Tony Grist delivered a PechaKucha on façade geometries through case studies on the upcoming Ribbon and 60 Martin Place projects. Deron Patterson of Vitro Architectural Glass spoke on coatings on glass performance and energy efficiency of buildings. Phillip Davies of Trosifol shared views on interlayers to enhance safety, acoustic, UV- control and structural properties. Proceedings concluded with senior panel including Architectus, Aecom, Fender Katsalidis, FJMT Studio, Built and Schüco sharing views on façade process management while understanding allied risks better. Quality discussions coupled with networking sessions provided opportunities to celebrate growth and meet up with existing and future business associates promising opportunities to façade industry to flourish further at this debut edition of Zak World of Façades in Australia. TESTIMONIALS
The Zak Conference in Sydney once again was a full house as usual and we will be interested to be part of more events in the region.
Frank Goudman Renson
The quality of attendees, networking opportunities and discussions outside of the presentations were incredible. Zak World of Façades certainly had everyone in the industry talking about it and definitely drew an impressive crowd.
Ciara Horgan CSR Viridian
The attendance levels were outstanding - looking forward to the next edition.
Troy Donovan Prism Façades I really enjoyed the morning talks by Kerryn Coker & Richard Francis-Jones as they were very good. Mic Patterson was also excellent, and the panels were very interesting. It was also very good to have companies exhibiting as could get extra information following some of the presentations. Overall, definitely worth attending.
Grey Bray The Buchan Group
I found the presentation by Michael O'Reilly (Permasteelisa) to resonate the most, he mentioned in his presentation “The importance of standardization and technology developments being the key to remain competitive.
It was a pleasure to participate in Zak World of Façades Sydney. There was a solid turnout and represented by quality delegates.
Timothy Van De Ven AkzoNobel
Good variety of presenters. Each presentation was of good length, didn’t get bored.
