OVERVIEW Continuing with success streak of Zak World of Façades conferences in UAE, Zak concluded the third annual UAE edition and 26th global edition of the conference in Dubai on March 21, 2017 at the Conrad hotel. The event yet again marked itself as pioneer by registering representation of 350 industry leaders and influencers from across the façade industry value chain within UAE region. Attendees at the event included celebrated architects, designers, façade consultants, developers, fabricators, construction organizations and main contractors. Conference agenda spanning over one day featured keynote presentations, concept case studies, panel discussions and product presentations. The event was convened by WSP Brinckerhoff’s Andy Dean, a well celebrated façade specialist. The programme was set to roll by Robert Stephens from Inhabit Group on BIM and parametric design for façades. It was followed by a design specific keynote by Yahya Jan from Norr. He spoke on how building performance potential can be enhanced through façades with case studies. The session concluded with Maria Malo from Akzonobel emphasizing upon contemporary façade designs being complemented by powder coatings. Second session opened with highly interesting presentation on façade engineering on Mars by Agnes Koltay from Koltay Façades. It was followed by Dr. Werner Jager from ai3 representing Technal, delivering a presentation on building envelopes design being affected by urban planning, local climatic conditions and regulations. Next was the special keynote by Elie Gamburg from Kohn Pedersen Fox, New York office on façade design of the highly anticipated Royal Atlantis. The last leg of the session was a power packed panel discussion on effective façade project management adaptation and how important a role it plays in overall timely and commercially successful completion of the project. Post lunch session was abuzz with presentations upon innovative design and products aspects of façade industry. First presentation was delivered by Micha Pawelka from Priedemann emphasizing upon different approaches and value additions through knowledge upgradation which can be used when faced by modern façade challenges. Next was a very interesting presentation on tensile fabric façades and how they can transform market through their additional functionalities and added benefits over traditional façades by Sanjoe Rodrigues from Serge Ferrari. Next presentation on value engineering aiding to design optimization was delivered by Tatiana Masalska and Nabeel Zabad from Hilti. It was followed by an engrossing presentation by Stuart Clarke from Arup, speaking on key challenges faced from conceptualization to completion stage of airport terminal buildings while sharing his insights on interdisciplinary coordination for successful completion of any project. Efthimios Zizos from Elval Colour spoke next on archi-tectural 3D designs on façades while emphasizing on a few case studies on the same. The session was wrapped with presentation on perimeter barrier firestop systems for curtain walls and the relevant UAE fire code compliance which had recently come into being by Steve Swales from Siderise Group. The last session of the conference started off with a presentation on protection through glass in lieu with the UAE fire safety code and how can glazing help in securing the architecture by Imran Manasawala from Future Architectural Glass. A special presentation on clear glass bonding was delivered by Markus Plettau of Dow Performance Silicones. He shared his insights on how crystal clear silicones films can be used in the external façade & internal glazing works along with a few case studies. The conference session was concluded with a robust panel discussion on innovations in façade architecture having views and perspectives of architects, designers, contractors and façade consultants. The panelists deliberated upon digital influence on façade construction, contemporary façade designs and aesthetics in addition to the sustainability features of the building façade. The event was concluded over a special post-event session with a keynote by James Law of James Law Cybertecture on the future of buildings. This special post-event session was sponsored by Technoform Middle East. The conference, with its third immensely successful edition in UAE, has re-emphasized its importance with the industry players and key decision makers marking their presence at the event and showcasing their faith in the brand, highly productive and business oriented networking sessions being panned out thoughtfully through the day.

TESTIMONIALS
The networking at the event was so good that you get motivated to understand what can be done in the region, so being part of this conference is always beneficial, I don’t know any other conference for facades in this region which has so much influence on the market.
Belen Nemi
There is a tremendous buzz and lot of energy with a broad participation across the industry with representation from designers, developers, fabricators and it was very good day. The event brings people together in an open forum which is great for the industry and also helps in bringing new technologies out in the open.
Associate, Gensler
It’s a very exciting event to be honest. I’m surprised that no only there are so many people attending from the specifier audience but also from the consultants, property developers and also from other construction segments. It’s a very interesting event for us to focus and consider in the future as well.
Yahya Jan Yahya Jan, President & Design Director, NORR
Markus Plettau
Event as always has been fantastic, very well attended and it’s a privilege to have been invited to speak at this event. There are some outstanding speakers, audience and it a very good event which brings the industry together.
Marketing Manager - EMEA, Dow Performance Silicones
We often support Zak Group both in India with the exhibitions as well as conferences in many parts of the world. We have supported all the six editions in the Middle East and editions in Singapore and Africa. They do a good job and we like the way it’s done. The right people are there, the decision makers are there and there is lot of opportunity to have one-to-one conversations with potential customers.
Robert Stephens Executive Director, Inhabit Group
So far we have been happy with the Zak organization. We had a successful co-operation last year, that’s why we came back to participate this year. The profile of the participants is good and that’s clearly the key targets for us to meet and we are happy to see them over here.
Alex Dantziguian Managing Director, Technoform Middle East
Alain Garnier Director - Busness Development, Saint Gobain Sage Glass
The event’s great! The turnout to the event is incredible. Its by far larger than many of the events we have been part of in the past.
Our associate with Zak over the years has been very positive and very grateful to Zak for providing platform where we can genuinely share ideas, genuinely share technologies and genuinely talk about the issues. Its generally a great platform to share ideas.
