We sell globally virtually in every market, predominantly though distribution networks.
Growth
As a byproduct of Covid, we have seen dramatic growth. We are developing further into mainstream channels.
Promotion
We focus on product development and allow that to speak for itself, and then in turn word spreads through our distribution channels.
Sales Channels
We don’t have specific figures because we go through many channels of sale, but we do estimate that about 70% is sold online.
Retailer Support
Demands of retailers is diminishing as we are mostly configured for online sales and the preparation of images and related content has become part of our everyday business.
Distribution
We have developed long term relationships with our distributors and good mutual understandings.
Product and Market Trends
We see predominant growth in the cheaper end of the market and have been focusing on this with the expansion of our Basics items. Global Markets
European market for us is the most mature. Europe is more receptive to mature and sophisticated finish in product while the US is focused on more simplistic products, but we do see changes happening. Product Development
We have been doing this for many years and have a structured processes with at this point make it routine. Our parent organization is in contract manufacturing which facilitates this process.

Lubricant brand’s two new lines are just the beginning

Swiss Navy is one of the most popular lubricant brands, allowing smooth sailing in bedrooms worldwide, and COVID-19 has seen demand for its products increase at an exceptional rate. Certified Sex Coach Vanessa Rose spoke with Briana Watkins, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at MD Science Lab, the maker of Swiss Navy, about what we can expect from the iconic brand this year.
Congratulations on the first year in your role. What does it involve, in terms of the big picture and day-to-day
As MD Science Lab’s Vice President of Sales and Marketing, my most important responsibility is leading our sales team and motivating them to meet and exceed our combined goals. My day-to-day objectives include developing advantageous sales strategies, product development, marketing plans, managing brand awareness, and helping to create and strengthen partnerships that increase sales revenues and profitability for our customers and our company.
It’s been a year of opportunity for adult retail. How has the personal lubricant market developed since COVID-19 emerged
We found our sales increasing at an exponential rate, while internally our no.1 focus was on safety measures to protect both our staff and our customers. Our goals shifted to become more focused on helping our customers continue their own growth with our active support measures. We even shifted some of our production to making hand sanitiser products in order to help our industry pivot to meet consumer needs.
What has been driving those market developments
I spend much of my free time researching trends within our industry and found that according to studies1, people are having much, much more sex during quarantine, including more solo sex and telephone/online sex, which increased the need for quality lubricants. It appears as though this trend will continue in 2021.
How is MD Science Lab helping retailers meet this increasing demand
Our MD Science Lab team considers each other family, and as a family, we proudly do what it takes to ensure our customers have the products they need, whatever those may be.
At some points during the pandemic, our production facility was running triple shifts in order to support our customer’s needs. Not only did we not run into stock problems, we hired people to help meet the demand of our products. We also spent time during the pandemic to develop two new collections of products that match upcoming trends. By supplying our customers with products that end-users will be seeking, we’ll be able to positively impact their bottom line.

Swiss Navy’s 4-in-1 Playful Flavors has four key pleasure options all in one. This unique formula offers more pleasure possibilities for consumers by combining flavour, scent, lubrication, massage, and warming qualities.
Why was Playful Flavors developed
We wanted to help inspire confidence and comfort for the end-user, and our research found flavoured lubricants may help people get past shyness about oral sex.
We also know that many people have experienced bedroom boredom and the urge to explore sexually during the global quarantines, and that many of those people have a limited budget. So, we created a product that incorporated four different pleasure options all in one item.
What separates Playful Flavours from other flavoured lubricants
Our flavours were created by a Fortune 500 food company to ensure their deliciousness. In addition, Swiss Navy’s 4-in-1 Playful Flavors can be used for massage, lubrication, and to add a warming element that can bring fun temperature play into relationships. All of our flavors are sugar-free, non-staining, and non-sticky.
Multi-purpose products, such as 4-in-1 Playful Flavors, help consumers save money. This helps retailers help their own customers.
Swiss Navy’s other new collection is Desire
Desire by Swiss Navy is something I’m so proud of. It’s an entirely new collection developed by women, for women. Our research shows that 85% of consumer spending is controlled by women and we wanted to arm our retail partners with products that are being sought.
We looked at what women really need for their intimate lives, then we created these products with female bodies and chemistry in mind. We realised that starting with everyday intimate essentials — lubricants, arousal formulas, massage options — was perfect given our background in creating award-winning consumable products.
Every custom-made product features key ingredients and unique formulations to engage female consumers and their personal needs. How is Desire different from other brands of women’s intimate essentials
From the very start, Desire by Swiss Navy was created with the female body in mind — this carries through from the basic base ingredients to the beautiful packaging. Desire is unique in this respect. The Desire collection is the result of intensive development and I believe that it’s exactly what women are looking for with their own intimate wellness needs.
What else can we expect from MD Science Lab and Swiss Navy in 2021
My team and I are actively making strategic plans for contests and events that will inspire and reward retailers. 2021 will be a major year for us at MD Science but the plans I’m working on will extend much farther. We want to create stronger partnerships with our own customers and bring new products to market that reflect the trends happening in our world. Of course, we will continue our ongoing efforts and sanitary measures to ensure all of our products make it safely to our customers.
