overview Las Vegas real estate is experiencing historic growth and exciting changes once again! Our market is being defined by demand as it continues to outpace supply, and home values are moving up in majority of the price ranges. The highest demand continues to be seen in the sub$500,000 market, where if you go below $300,000 it was common to have multiple offers. In fact, almost 80% of the homes coming to market in this segment went to contract in under 30 days. While the lower end saw a continued demand, the upper tier was not far behind. There have been 450 residential transactions in the luxury ($750k+) segment putting us up 30% in sales volume over the same time last year and the time on market has gone down on average almost 20%. The influx of residents from California, as well as those in the higher taxed states continues, most of whom are attracted to the strong benefits of our favorable tax climate, cost of living and quality of life are the primary drivers of the market. We continue to draw large numbers of people that like to call Las Vegas their second home as well as investors looking to capitalize on the strong rental market.

home builders are putting their mark on this community. The combination of incredible designs and stunning views are what make MacDonald Highlands a truly spectacular development. Las Vegas continues to evolve with two new changes to the Las Vegas Strip. First, the Monte Carlo has officially been “retired” and Park MGM will take its place. The new identity was recently announced, and the resort transformation is slated for completion by the end of the year. This includes a partnership with New York based lifestyle hotelier, the Sydell Group, and includes their renowned NoMad experience comprising 292-rooms on the top four floors as well as the urban parks and gardens that will be European inspired. The second significant change is a conversion of Mandarin Oriental to a Waldorf-Astoria property, slated for the third quarter. There are plans for renovation and reimagining with brand elements and improvements. This should prove to further garner interest in this exceptional property to clients the world over.

Summerlin remains one of the top selling areas with active new home communities including The Cliffs, The Paseos, The Ridges, Stonebridge and Reverence. The luxury communities significantly increased sales activity over 2017. Summerlin marked the first half of 2018 with strong new home sales, topping last year’s year over year by 64%. Leading Summerlin to the #3 spot on a list of the country’s best-selling master-planned communities, according to a report recently released by national real estate consultant RCLCO.

When it comes to sports, Las Vegas is all in! It was an amazing inaugural year for our Golden Knights who managed to make it to the Stanley Cup finals. While we didn’t end up winning it all, we did put on a great showing and there is no doubt that our community is in complete support. As football season draws near, the excitement for our Raiders continues to increase. The first round of club seats has already sold out and the next round is expected to be met with the same demand. Our new WNBA team, The Aces, had their first home game at Mandalay Bay Events Center and we are looking forward to watching their success. The new stadium for our minor league baseball team the 51’s is underway in Downtown Summerlin just south of City National Arena, which only adds to the popularity of the area!

To the east, MacDonald Highlands continues to set sales records. Nestled in the McCullough mountains and anchored by the Dragonridge Country Club, these custom homes and lots are in great demand. A number of custom

Under Lock & Key: Mike Kelley’s Subterranean Legacy BY SOTHEBY’S | 26 JUN 2018 work by the American artist Mike Kelley is currently on display as part of ARTISTS FOR ARTANGEL: A Fund for the Future at the Cork Street Galleries, and is offered for sale in an auction to raise money to support future projects by London-based organisation Artangel. Mike Kelley was a hugely important cultural figure, and had a profound influence on how contemporary art is experienced by audiences today. Known widely for his performance and installation work (though he also worked extensively in painting, photography and video) he enjoyed major exhibitions at MoMA PS1, Tate Liverpool, the Stedelijk Museum and presentations at the Venice Biennale and Whitney Biennial. Kelley’s practice presented an unorthodox, yet honest commentary on American culture through the eyes of a voracious image-maker. Kelley’s contribution to the contemporary American art is well-documented, and his untimely death in 2012 sent shockwaves through the art world internationally, such was his significance in the community. Kelley was a great collaborator, and worked with artists and musicians such as Tony Oursler, Raymond Pettibon, Jim Shaw and the band Sonic Youth throughout his career — reinforcing his desire to keep an open discourse with other creative practitioners... read entire story at sothebys.com

21 Facts About Jean-Michel Basquiat BY KATHLEEN WHITE | 09 JUL 2018 1. Jean-Michel Basquiat was born on 22 December 1960, in Brooklyn, New York. His father, Gérard, was born in Port au Prince, Haiti, and his mother Matilde was a New York-native of Puerto Rican descent. In this multicultural home, the artist grew up speaking Spanish, French and English. 2. Basquiat became a junior member of the Brooklyn Museum, his favorite museum, at the age of six. In the spring of 2018, the museum hosted One Basquiat an exhibition devoted solely to the artist’s record-breaking Untitled (1982) which was purchased at Sotheby’s by Japanese collector Yusaku Maezawa for $110.5 million dollars — the most ever paid for an American artist at auction. 3. At eight-years-old, Basquiat was hit by a car while playing in the street and suffered a broken arm and severe internal injuries. While he was recuperating, his mother brought him a copy of the foundational medical textbook Gray’s Anatomy. The volume’s detailed anatomical drawings were eye opening to the young artist. Andy Warhol and His Process BY ROGER KAMHOLZ | 10 NOV 2013 NEW YORK - Andy Warhol famously told Art News interviewer Gene Swenson, “The reason I’m painting this way is that I want to be a machine, and I feel that whatever I do and do machine-like is what I want to do.” Warhol was referring to his newfound process of silk-screen printing images repeatedly onto a single canvas. This act of undermining any translation or evidence of the artist’s hand in favor of a massproduced, machine-like look appealed to Warhol. Once he discovered the process and implications of working with silk screens, the content of Warhol’s output as a painter became inextricably linked to the process by which he created his art. Warhol’s grid-like paintings of dollar bills from 1962 are his earliest attempts at silkscreen printing, when the artist was still getting to know the process. At that time he used his own drawings as the basis to create the silk-screened print. He reportedly was not entirely happy with the result, calling 129 Die in Jet!, another painting based on a drawing, “smeary.” But Warhol soon learned that it was possible to use photographs as the basis for a silk-screen print, and the resulting image proved much sharper – though not too sharp – and thus to Warhol’s liking.
