overview It is our pleasure to introduce this quarter’s edition of Insight Magazine, the definitive overview of the greater Las Vegas luxury real estate market. The single-family housing market in Las Vegas continues to show strength overall with inventory down 28% and sales up 11% over the same period last year. The result of the increase in demand and reduction of inventory is the continuing increase in the median home value rising 12% over 2016. At the lower price points, it continues to be a strong Seller’s market. On the luxury front (homes valued above $750K), the demand is very strong with 45% more homes sold year-to-date than the same time last year. However, we continue to have homes come to market, shoring up the inventory, leaving us just 6% less than last year and keeping the pricing relatively flat. William Turnbull: The Geometry of Fear By SOTHEBY’S | 04 Oct 2017 Born in Dundee in 1922, William Turnbull, whose work will go on display at S|2 Gallery in London on 9 October, is one of the most influential Modern British artists of the 20th century. Influenced by an array of artists he met throughout his life, including Giacometti, Brancusi, and Rothko, Turnbull’s sculptural works adopt aspects of tribal art, minimalism and draws upon a multitude of cultures. S|2 London presents several works from Turnbull’s oeuvre, including the Blade Venus series and Ancestral Figure. In 1946, Turnbull was accepted into the painting department at the Slade School of Fine Art, but he soon transferred to sculpture. Here he first met artists Eduardo Paolozzi and Nigel Henderson, who shared his interest in contemporary continental modernist art. The following summer, Turnbull travelled throughout Italy and France, and moved to Paris a year later where he began to mix with some of the most influential artists of the day. He met Léger, Giacometti and Brancusi, all of whom had a significant influence on his work. He was also introduced to critic David Sylvester, who arranged an exhibition for Turnbull and Paolozzi back in London at the Hanover Gallery in 1950. The Rarest of the Rare: Wines from a Manhattan Collector By SOTHEBY’S | 02 Oct 2017 NEW YORK – There is a particular excitement felt by even the most jaded of wine specialists when opening banded original wood cases for the first time. Our team was afforded that thrill many times over with the featured collection Pristine Treasures from a Manhattan Collector in Sotheby’s upcoming Finest & Rarest Wines auction on 21 October in New York. This selection of blue chip rarities hails from the cellar of a New York City gentleman, the hallmarks of which are superb provenance and pristine conditions. Virtually all of these wines remain in original packaging, and much of the Petrus and Domaine de la Romanée-Conti was banded prior to inspection. The 2003 vintage in Bordeaux is plentiful here, including Château Lafite, Château Latour in bottle and magnum format, Château Margaux and a gorgeous imperial of Château Lafleur. OWCs of Petrus abound from 2006 and 2003, as well as the standout 2001 vintage. Deep quantities of Burgundian greats are on offer in original wood case: 2004 La Romanée Liger-Belair in bottles, magnum and jeroboam; 2007 Musigny Mugnier; and 2002 Chevalier Montrachet Domaine Leflaive. Rare full dozens of Chablis Valmur 1998 and 1999 from Francois Raveneau are available with exceptionally great colour. The most dazzling standout in this collection of many highlights is its array of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti from the 1996 vintage. The Silence and Mystery of Magritte’s Le Toit du monde BY SOTHEBY’S | 25 SEP 2017 Painted in 1926, Le Toit du monde, which features in the Modernités: de Rodin à Soulages sale in Paris on 19 October, belongs to the first cycle of Surrealist paintings by Belgian artist René Magritte. This spectacular work possesses an exceptional provenance, which reflects its quality and its importance in art history.
