Dance Nation received its UK premiere at the Almeida Theatre, London, September 2018. Playwrights Horizons, Inc., New York City, produced the World Premiere of Dance Nation in 2018 with support from an award by the National Endowment of the Arts, and a generous gift from Scott M. Kailee Brandt (she/ her) (Amina) is a sophomore musical theater major from Honolulu, HI. She was recently in the Syracuse Stage/Department of Drama co-production of Disney’s The Little Mermaid and will be in the upcoming productions of Candide and La Bohème this summer at the Glimmerglass Festival. Olivia Busche (Zuzu) is a sophomore actorsinger from Cincinnati, Ohio. She is thrilled to be in her first mainstage production with the Syracuse University Department of Drama. Past Department of Drama credits include Eurydice (Black Box Players studio project) and A Stroll in the Air (Department of Drama studio project). Gwendalyn Rose Díaz (she/her/hers) (u/s Ashlee) is extremely honored to make her Department of Drama mainstage debut in Dance Nation! Avaana Harvey (she/ her) (Connie) is a sophomore acting major from Singapore. This is her second production at the Department of Drama, her first being Failure: A Love Story

Paige Kenneally (she/ her) (u/s Maeve) is a junior acting major from Saratoga, NY. This is her first mainstage production with the Department of Drama and she is extremely grateful for this opportunity. Last year, she was in the Department of Drama’s studio production of Movie Night (Young Entrepreneur, Jesse, Dr. Danford, Red Specter). Adelaide Lobenthal (Sofia) is a junior acting major from New York City. Although this is her first mainstage production at the Syracuse University Department of Drama, Adelaide frequently performs on campus with her improv group, Galactic Chug. She also recently performed in Movie Night directed by Nick Kowerko as well as the Method Acting Project. Adelaide is so excited to share this story with the audience and she is very grateful to her friends and family for all of their support.
Malvi Lucchini (she/ her/hers) (u/s Sofia) is a sophomore musical theater major from Milan, Italy. This is her first Department of Drama mainstage production and she is thrilled and honored! Truman Tinius (Dance Captain, Fight Captain, Intimacy Captain, u/s Dance Teacher Pat) is a Sophomore B.F.A. musical theater major and is thrilled to be a part of this production of Dance Nation with the Syracuse University Department of Drama. He was most recently seen in the Syracuse Stage/Department of Drama co-production of The Little Mermaid (Ensemble, Circus Feature). Isaiah Tucker (they/ he) (Dance Teacher Pat) is a sophomore musical theater major from Philadelphia, PA. Axel Vera (u/s Luke) is a first-generation Colombian Venezuelan American actor from Miami, FL. He is a junior musical theater major who is extremely excited to be working again on another Syracuse University Department of Drama production. His recent credits include the Syracuse Stage Bank of America Children’s
Tour: The Girl Who Swallowed A Cactus and Movie Night. He was most recently seen as an ensemble member of the Syracuse Stage/Department of Drama co-production of Disney’s The Little Mermaid and as an on-stage swing in the Department of Drama production of Sweet Charity. Emma Waterhouse (she/they) (Maeve) is a sophomore acting major from Leominster, MA. Last semester, she played Little Boy in A Stroll in the Air in the Loft Theater, directed
by Nick Kowerko. For Abby, who she discovered their love of this art with, wearing a pink leotard in a studio not too dissimilar to this one.
Bella Zonderman (Amina) is a sophomore m usical theater major from Schenectady, NY. Some favorite credits include the Syracuse Stage/ Department of Drama co-production of Disney’s The Little Mermaid and West Side Story at Glimmerglass Opera Festival. Bella ’s first love is classical ballet, and she has spent summers training pre-professionally at Philadelphia Ballet and The Rock School for Dance Education. Mairead Cummins (they/them) (Lighting Designer) is a junior theater design and technology major from Annapolis, MD. This is their first design for the Department of Drama, and they are incredibly grateful for the support from their peers, family, and friends throughout the process.

Kevin O’Connor (Sound Designer) is currently in his 14th season working for Syracuse Stage and the Syracuse University Department of Drama. He graduated from St. Lawrence University with a B.A. in music in 2008. Most of Kevin’s sound design credits have been with the Department of Drama over the past decade and some of his favorites are Bright Half Life (2021), Romeo & Juliet (2020), Good Kids (2019), We Are Proud to Present... (2019), The Baltimore Waltz (2018), Laura and the Sea (2016), A Flea in Her Ear (2016), The Spitfire Grill (2016), Measure for Measure (2015), and Stepping Out (2014) . Kevin also designed Danny, King of the Basement, Miss Electricity, and The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane for the Syracuse Stage/Department of Drama Bank of America Children’s Tour. Besides sound design, Kevin has also worked as the A1 position, controlling the audio console/live mixing most of the musicals over the past 13 years for Syracuse Stage and the Department of Drama including Disney’ s The Little Mermaid, Matilda the Musical, Disney’ s Beauty and The Beast, The Last Five Years, Elf the Musical, Little Shop of Horrors, Next to Normal, The Wizard of Oz, Ring of Fire, Berlin to Broadway, Mary Poppins, Nine, The Spitfire Grill, Peter Pan, Kiss Me, Kate, Avenue Q, Hairspray, Parade, Spring Awakening, Seussical, Violet, Irving Ber-
lin’ s White Christmas, Merrily We Roll Along, Quilters, The Cradle Will Rock, and Cabaret. He was also able to work as the A1 for Thoughts of a Colored Man during its Syracuse Stage run before it moved to Broadway.
Holly Thuma (she/her) (Voice/Verse Coach) teaches Voice/Verse in the Department of Drama and is a certified associate teacher of Fitzmaurice Voicework. She has served as vocal and dialect coach for many Department of Drama productions including Top Girls, Violet, To Chekhov with Love for the Edinburgh Festival, Major Barbara, Romeo and Juliet, among others. For Syracuse Stage she was vocal coach for Mickey Rowe in The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, and is currently vocal coach for their commissioned work, Our Words are Seeds. Holly’s acting and directing credits include productions with Quantum Theatre, the Dallas Theatre Center, Pittsburgh Irish and Classical Theatre, City Theatre Company where she was a founding member, Perry Mansfield New Play Festival, as well as independent films. A passionate believer in arts education, Holly’s career has included development and direction of performance programs for underserved children through the Pittsburgh Public Theater and for the Hope Academy of Music and the Arts. She is a proud union member of Actors Equity and SAG/AFTRA.

Alec Barbour (Fight Choreography) is a Rochester, NY based actor, intimacy director, fight choreographer, and playwright. He relishes the opportunity to create visceral, authentic moments of violence and intimacy that are thrilling for audiences while being safe and fun for actors. He is a Certified Teacher with the Society of American Fight Directors. He received his MFA in Acting at the Hilberry Repertory Theatre at Wayne State University in Detroit. Yvonne Perry (Intimacy Choreography) is an actor, director, and educator who is also a Consent Forward Artist certified by IDC. She has been on the forefront of intimacy direction, choreography and coordination since the movement’s onset, and trained at the University of Illinois with some of the leaders of this new field. She has led consent workshops and choreographed intimacy both here at Syracuse University as well as many colleges and universities in the Capital District. Yvonne also performs and directs intimacy at Capital Repertory Theatre, where she is an Associate Artist. AEA, SAG-AFTRA.

Carrie DeGraw (Casting Associate) is a senior theater management major from Union Springs, NY. During her time at Syracuse, she has been the Department of Drama’s casting associate, as well as a production assistant for the Department and Syracuse Stage. Previously, Carrie was a management intern at Jermyn Street Theatre in London, England and the development apprentice at Theatre Aspen in Aspen, CO, where she currently is working as the management and board coordinator and apprentice program coordinator.
Jess DeLucia (she/her) (Stage Manager) is a junior stage management major from Matawan, NJ. Other credits include Syracuse Stage’s The Play That Goes Wrong (stage management intern), Syracuse University Department of Drama’s ID: A Devised Film Piece (rehearsal manager/script supervisor), Miss Havisham’s Wedding (script evaluator/co-dramaturg/ videographer), Mansfield Park (assistant stage manager), and Salt Land Theatre Festival (script evalulator/research assistant). Katherine McGerr (she/her) is a director, dramaturg, and teaching artist who joined the Syracuse University Department of Drama faculty in 2015. Recent directing credits include The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane (Syracuse Stage Bank of America Children’s Tour); the Broadway premiere of Noah Haidle’s Birthday Candles (Associate Director, Roundabout); The Wild Party (Syracuse University Department of Drama), The Second Shepherds’ Play (Colgate University, Indiana University); Measure for Measure (UNC/Playmakers Repertory Theatre); A Dream Play (Allegheny College); Hedda Gabler (Yale School of Drama); Dutchman (Yale Cabaret); Build -

Felipe Panamá (he/ him) is a teacher, choreographer, dancer, and visual artist. He teaches Ballet, Jazz, and Contemporary dance techniques in the Department of Drama of Syra-

Clare Barron is a playwright and performer from Wenatchee, Washington. Her play Dance Nation recently received its world premiere at Playwrights Horizons in May 2018
and subsequently its UK premiere at the Almeida Theatre in London. It was a 2019 finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in Drama and is the recipient of the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize and

play on the Kilroys’ List; I’ll Never Love Again (The Bushwick Starr); and Baby Screams Miracle (Clubbed Thumb; Woolly Mammoth). She is the recipient of a Whiting Award for Drama, the Paula Vogel Playwriting Award at The Vineyard, and the Page 73 Fellowship; and is a member of New Dramatists.

Ralph Zito (he, him) is in his thirteenth year as chair of the Department of Drama. He came to Syracuse University from the Juilliard School Drama Division, where he had been a teacher and director from 1992 to 2010 and chair of the Voice and Speech Department since 1999. He was a director and adjunct lecturer in the Barnard College Theater Department from 2006 until 2010 and has been a guest artist at training programs across the country, including the Old Globe in San Diego, The University of Texas at Austin, and the Academy for Classical Acting in Washington, DC. Directing credits for the Department of Drama include: The Spitfire Grill, As You Like It, Gruesome Playground Injuries, and The Aliens. He has served as a voice, text or dialect consultant for numerous professional productions both on and off-Broadway, including: The Light in the Piazza; Awake and Sing!; The Herbal
Bed; Mrs. Klein; The Fiery Furnace; The Time of the Cuckoo (Lincoln Center Theatre); Tongue of a Bird; The Merchant of Venice (New York Shakespeare Festival); The Pitchfork Disney (Blue Light Theatre Company); Birdy (The Women’s Project); The Model Apartment (Primary Stages); the New York premiere of Tony Kushner’s SLAVS! (New York Theatre Workshop); and The African Company Presents Richard III (The Acting Company). His regional theater credits include numerous productions at The Shakespeare Theatre and Arena Stage in Washington, DC; Syracuse Stage; Baltimore CENTERSTAGE; Hartford Stage; and the McCarter Theatre, among others. A former touring member of The Acting Company, he served as artistic associate of The Chautauqua Theatre Company for seven years and was a member of the Board of Directors of The American Society for the Alexander Technique (AmSAT) for six years. He is a graduate

of Harvard University, The Juilliard School, and the American Center for the Alexander Technique. He was recently awarded the prestigious Juil-
liard President’s Medal in recognition of his contributions to both Juilliard and to the broader performing arts community.
ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT OF DRAMA
Part of the College of Visual and Performing Arts, the Syracuse University Department of Drama offers degree programs in acting, musical theater, theater design and technology, stage management, and theater management
