Characters For contemporary plays, some costume designers prefer to create mood boards instead of traditional costume renderings. Mood boards are a visual representation of the look of each character in the show, but they do not show specific costume pieces. They give the costume team a general feel for how each character should look, which informs which pieces the team pulls for each character to wear.
