CAST Kennedy Campbell (Woman 2) is a sophomore musical theater major from the Boston suburbs. Kennedy was born and raised on Long Island, NY. This is Kennedy’s first show at the Department of Drama. This summer Kennedy will be interning at Wheelock Family Theatre in Massachusetts.

Favorite credits include Evita (Evita), Mary Poppins (Jane), and 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (Director). She would like to thank the fantastic cast and crew, as well as her family, friends, and her four cats, Rosco, Leo, Finn, and Tony. Will Foohey (Man 3) is a sophomore acting major with a concentration in musical performance from Baltimore, MD. At the Department of Drama, Will has been seen as Kyle in The Dream of the Burning Boy (sophomore project). He would like to thank his parents for their support.

Alessandra Casanova (Woman 1) is a junior musical theater major from Dorado, Puerto Rico. At the Department of Drama, Alessandra has been seen as #14 in The Wolves (Syracuse Stage/Department of Drama co-production), Penelope in Danny, King of The Basement (Bank of America Children’s Tour), and Sarah in The American Pilot (sophomore project). She is so happy to be “working” on this production with an amazing and talented group of people, and she is always thankful to her family and friends for their endless support.

Erik Olson (Man 1) is a sophomore musical theater major from Southern California. He recently was a part of Antigone, Presented by the Girls of St. Catherine’s (sophomore project) in the fall, as Jamie/Mr. Reed. He is excited to be in his first mainstage production at the Department of Drama and hopes that you all enjoy.

Emily Edwards (Understudy) is a junior musical theater major from San Antonio, TX. She was last seen in On the Lake (Drama mainstage), Getting Out (sophomore project) and Rocky Horror (Black Box Players).

Jay Owens (Man 2) is a sophomore musical theater major from Chicago, IL. Department of Drama credits include Mud (Black Box Players) and Spring Awakening (Black Box Players).

CAST Sara Vaccaro (Woman 3) is a junior musical theater major from New Jersey. At the Department of Drama Sara has been seen as Theresa Salieri in the Syracuse Stage/ Department of Drama co-production of Amadeus, as Lucy in Jockey: A Sexual Unboxing (an independent project) and as Woman in Black Box Players production of [Sic]. She is looking forward to studying Shakespeare at The Globe in the fall.

Dylan Weaver (Understudy) is a sophomore musical theater major from Boulder, CO. Previously, Dylan was in Spring Awakeing (Black Box Players) as Moritz and is thoroughly enjoying understudying for his first mainstage show. Recent credits include Dogfight, Violet, Hunchback of Notre Dame, and She Kills Monsters. Dylan would like to thank all those who have supported him up to this point, especially his various farm animals.

At the Department of Drama, Allison has scenic designed Spring Awakening (Black Box Players), scenic and costume designed How to Make Friends and then Kill Them (studio project), and has been the scenic charge for Lonely Planet (studio project). She has assistant scenic designed Romeo and Juliet (mainstage) and The Crucible (mainstage).

Kevin O’Connor (Sound Designer) is currently in his twelfth season working for Syracuse Stage and the Syracuse University Department of Drama. He graduated from St. Lawrence University with a B.A .in music in 2008. DIRECTOR Rodney Hudson is pleased to work with the Department of Drama students again. He was a faculty member at Syracuse University for 26 years. MUSIC DIRECTOR Brian Cimmet has been music director for most productions with Syracuse Stage and the Syracuse University Department of Drama since

2010, including recent productions of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, A Chorus Line, The Wild Party, and The Last Five Years. With the De-

MUSIC DIRECTOR partment of Drama, Brian teaches classes in musical theater literature and history, audition technique, and musical theater songwriting. Beyond the confines of Syracuse, Brian’s credits include the Broadway companies of Mary Poppins, The Drowsy Chaperone, and Grease, the original Off-Broadway productions of I Love You Because (also the cast album) and The Tin Pan Alley Rag, and over a hundred touring, regional, and stock productions around the globe. He has composed scores to Absolutely Any-

thing, The Spirit of Reindeer, A Christmas Carol, Burn This, Stop Kiss, Let’s Play Two, Fingerprint Scanner, and his songs have been nominated for three MAC Awards (Manhattan Association of Cabarets and Clubs). In an entirely unrelated walk of life, Brian is a two-time award winner at the American Crossword Puzzle Tournament, co-creator and co-host of the Lollapuzzoola crossword tournament, co-host of the weekly crossword podcast Fill Me In, and contributor to several puzzle books.

CHOREOGRAPHER Bradley Stone is a performer, teacher, and choreographer of musical theater and dance. Performance credits include the Broadway revival of Oklahoma! directed by Trevor Nunn and choreographed by Susan Stroman, the 1st National tours of Pippin (Catherine) and Thoroughly Modern Millie, Phantom-The Las Vegas Spectacular, the Las Vegas and Hollywood Bowl productions of Hairspray, The Radio City Christmas Spectacular, and the world premiere of Leap of Faith. Additional credits include multiple pro-

ductions with Sacramento Music Circus, Reprise! Theater Company in Los Angeles, Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, St. Louis Repertory Theater, LA Opera among others. Bradley is currently an adjunct professor of dance at Syracuse University and a guest choreographer for several local theater organizations throughout CNY. Bradley holds her B.A. in performing arts from Saint Mary’s College of California, her M.A. in arts administration from Le Moyne College and is a member of Actors’ Equity Association.

C R E AT I V E T E A M Susan Birkenhead (Songs) received a Tony Nomination, a Grammy nomination, and a Drama Desk Award for her lyrics for Jelly’s Last Jam. She was nominated for a Drama Desk

for Triumph of Love. She was one of the writers nominated for a Tony award for Working, and won an Outer Critics Circle award for What about Luv? She wrote additional lyrics for High Soci10


C R E AT I V E T E A M ety, with a book by Arthur Kopit and a score by Cole Porter. She wrote lyrics for Pieces of Eight with Jule Styne and Michael Stewart, Fanny Hackabout Jones with Erica Jong and Lucy Simon, and was one of the contributors to A… My Name is Alice. She wrote The Night They Raided Minsky’s with Charles Strouse and Evan Hunter, and Moonstruck, with John Patrick Shanley and Henry Krieger. Ms. Birkenhead is a member of the Dramatists Guild Council, Treasurer of the Dramatists Guild Fund, and a member of the Musical Theater Council of the Manhattan Theater Club.

Godspell and directed most major productions of the show in America and Europe. She then took The Rocky Horror Show from Los Angeles to Broadway. She co-adapted and co-directed the musical Working, based on Studs Terkel’s book, for the Goodman Theater in Chicago and for Broadway. She co-wrote the teleplay for Working for the PBS series American Playhouse. She is the author and director of the children’s television special The Fable Company and the co-producer and co-director of a short film called Sing for Your Life. Among her other directing credits are the musicals Just Once and Is it Just Me, or is it Hot in Here?, which enjoyed long runs in New York and Los Angeles, respectively.

Craig Carnelia (Songs) wrote the score for the Broadway musical Is There Life After High School? and the Off-Broadway musical Three Postcards (Playwrights Horizons). Also Off-Broadway, he has had a collection of his songs entitled Notes presented at the Manhattan Theatre Club and contributed single songs to The No Frills Revue, Diamonds and A...My Name Is Still Alice. Honors include a Tony nomination for Working, a Best Plays citation for Three Postcards, the 1996 Johnny Mercer Award, and the prestigious Kleban Award for distinguished lyric writing.

Micki Grant (Songs) is a lyricist, composer, writer, and performer. An extensive period of collaboration with director Vinnette Carroll at the Urban Arts Corps Theatre resulted in nine musical productions, the most successful of which were the Broadway musicals Don’t Bother Me, I Can’t Cope, in which Grant also starred, and Your Arms Are Too Short to Box With God. The multi-award winning & COPE garnered the Grammy Award for its cast show album and five Tony nominations, including best musical among others. Her musical based on the life of George Washington Carver, Don’t Underestimate A Nut, premiered at Omaha’s Theatre for Young People in 1994, and for Jacques Brel Blues (with Andre Ernotte and Elliot Tiber) she

Nina Faso (Adaptation) made her directorial debut with Peter Ustinov’s The Unknown Soldier and His Wife. Following a stint with the improvisational comedy group: The Committee, she became one of the creators of

C R E AT I V E T E A M supplied the English lyrics for twenty of Jacques Brel’s Songs. She was composer/lyricist for J.E. Franklin’s Prodigal Sister, contributed to four musical revues based on the oral histories of hospital workers, contributed additional lyrics to Broadway’s Eubie, and has written songs for educational TV’s Infinity Factory. She enjoys writing special material for club singers, and one of her several commercial jingles has won her a two off-Award. Grant’s body of work has been celebrated in two Off-Broadway musical retrospectives. Multi-talented, Ms. Grant has performed on and off Broadway and in theaters around the country. For the national tour of Having Our Say, she won the Helen Hayes Award for her portrayal of Sadie Delany. Some of her numerous other awards include the Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle, NAACP Image, and OBIE. A practicing, published poet, she loves her job!

Gordon Greenberg (Additional Contributions) revised and directed Working for The Old Globe, Broadway in Chicago, Asolo Rep, and 59 E 59. He directed the acclaimed West End revival of Guys and Dolls, which starred Rebel Wilson and received six Olivier Award nominations (Savoy Theatre, Chichester Festival Theatre) and directed/co-wrote the Broadway stage adaptation of Irving Berlin’s Holiday Inn (Roundabout / Universal, PBS Great Performances.) Recent/current work includes the The Heart of Rock and Roll (Old

Best New American Play. Hamilton is the 2015 recipient of the the Edward M. Kennedy Prize for Drama Inspired by American History. Material from the show was previewed at the White House during its first-ever Evening of Poetry & Spoken Word in 2009, in Lincoln Center Theater’s 2012 American Songbook Series, and at New York Stage and Film’s 2013 Powerhouse Theatre Season at Vassar College. Mr. Miranda’s first Broadway musical, In the Heights, received four 2008 Tony Awards (including Best Orchestrations, Best Choreography, and Best Musical), with Miranda receiving a Tony Award for Best Score, as well as a nomination for Best Leading Actor in a Musical. Off-Broadway, In the Heights received nine Drama Desk nominations (including Best Music, Best Lyrics) and an award for Outstanding Ensemble Performance. In the Heights also won the Lucille Lortel Award and Outer Critic’s Circle Award for Best Musical. Additionally, Mr. Miranda received an Obie Award for Outstanding Music and Lyrics for the show. In the Heights also took home a 2009 Grammy Award for its Original Broadway Cast Album and was recognized as a finalist for the 2009 Pulitzer Prize in Drama. In 2016, Miranda received the Oliver Award for Outstanding Achievement in Music for the Original London production of In The Heights. Mr. Miranda is the co-composer (with Tom Kitt), and co-lyricist (with Amanda Green) of Broadway’s Bring it On:

Lin-Manuel Miranda (Songs) is an award-winning composer, lyricist, and performer, as well as a 2015 MacArthur Foundation Award recipient. His most recent musical, Hamilton – with book, music, and lyrics by Mr. Miranda, in addition to him playing the title role – opened on Broadway in 2015. Hamilton was awarded the 2016 Pulitzer Prize in Drama and received a record-breaking 16 Tony nominations – winning 11 Tonys including Best Musical and Best Book and Best Score for Mr. Miranda. The Original Broadway Cast Recording of Hamilton won the 2016 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album. Both Mr. Miranda and Hamilton won the 2016 Drama League Awards for Distinguished Performance and Outstanding Production of a Musical, respectively. For its OffBroadway sold-out run at the Public Theater, Hamilton received a recordbreaking 10 Lortel Awards, as well as three Outer Critic Circle Awards, eight Drama Desk Awards, the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best New Musical, and an OBIE for

The original Broadway cast recording was released by Sh-K-Boom Records in 2012. Additionally, he contributed new songs to the revival of Stephen Schwartz's Working and worked with Arthur Laurents and Stephen Sondheim on Spanish translations for the 2009 Broadway revival of West Side Story. In 2014, Mr. Miranda received an Emmy Award with Tom Kitt for their song, “Bigger” from the 67th Annual Tony Awards telecast.

and has also contributed music and/or lyrics to Godspell, Pippin, The Magic Show, The Baker’s Wife, Working (which he also adapted and directed), Rags, and Children of Eden. He collaborated with Leonard Bernstein on the English texts for Bernstein’s Mass and wrote the title song for the play and movie Butterflies are Free. For children, he has written songs for two musicals, Captain Louie and My Son Pinocchio. He has also worked in film, collaborating with Alan Menken on the songs for Disney’s Enchanted as well as the animated features Pocahontas and The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and writing the songs for the DreamWorks animated feature The Prince of Egypt. His first opera, Séance on a Wet Afternoon, was produced at Opera Santa Barbara and New York City Opera. A book about his career, Defying Gravity, has been released by Applause Books. Mr. Schwartz has been inducted into the Theatre Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame, and has been given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Awards include three Academy Awards, four Grammy Awards, and a tiny handful of tennis trophies.

Mary Rodgers (Songs). Mary Rodgers’ credits as a composer began with the Broadway production of Once Upon a Mattress in 1959 and continued with Hot Spot, The Mad Show, Working, The Griffin and the Minor Canon, and scores for the Bil Baird Marionettes and Theatreworks/USA. Her musicals have also been celebrated in a revue, Hey, Love. She is a popular author of fiction for young people, most notably the 1972 novel Freaky Friday, which was made into a Disney Studios motion picture (with a screenplay by Rodgers), a Theatre Works/ USA musical (composed by Rodgers) and an ABC TV remake. Mary Rodgers is chair of the board of the Juilliard School, on the board of ASCAP, and on the council of the Dramatists Guild.

James Taylor (Songs). James Taylor’s music embodies the art of songwriting in its most personal and universal forms. He is a master at describing specific, even autobiographical situations, in a way that resonates with people everywhere. In 1971, Taylor was on the cover of Time magazine, heralded as

Five decades later, his warm baritone, introspective lyrics and unique style of guitar playing still blaze a path to which young musicians aspire. His songs have had a profound influence on songwriters and music lovers from all walks of life. Taylor has sold more than 100 million albums, earning gold, platinum and multi-platinum awards since the release of his self-titled debut album in 1968. He has won multiple Grammy Awards, has been inducted into the Rock and Roll and the prestigious Songwriters Halls of Fame and was honored by The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences as a MUSICARES Person of the Year. In 2011, Taylor was honored with a Carnegie Hall Perspectives series, which consisted of four concert evenings presented by Carnegie Hall and featuring Taylor and personally selected musical guests. In 2011 he was also awarded the National Medal of Arts by President Barack Obama and, in 2012, he was awarded the distinguished Chevalier of the Order of Arts and Letters by the French government. Both medals are their nation’s highest honors for artistic excellence recognizing “outstanding achievements and support of the arts.” In 2015 Taylor was presented with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor and in 2016 he received the Kennedy Center Honors, which are presented annually to individuals who have enriched American culture by distinguished achievement

in the performing arts. In 2015, Taylor released Before This World, his first new studio album in thirteen years, which earned him his first-ever #1 album on the Billboard Charts and was nominated for a Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Album. In early 2020 Taylor released his audio-only Audible Original titled Break Shot, a deeply personal and authentic memoir detailing his first 21 years. He also released his newest album, American Standard, his 19th studio album, which earned Taylor the 2021 Grammy Award for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album and gave him the honor of being the first artist to have a Billboard Top 10 album in each of the past six decades. Taylor, his wife Kim, and their sons Rufus and Henry reside in Western Massachusetts. Studs Terkel (Book) was an awardwinning author and radio broadcaster. I N T E R I M C H A I R , D E PA R T M E N T O F D R A M A Holly Thuma is associate professor of voice and verse in the Department of Drama and a certified associate teacher of Fitzmaurice Voicework. Holly’s acting and directing credits include productions with Quantum Theatre, the Dallas Theatre Center, Pittsburgh Irish and Classical Theatre, City Theatre Company, Penn State Center Stage, and Perry Mansfield New Play Festival, as well as independent films. She has served as dialect/vocal coach for many productions at the Syracuse University De-

partment of Drama including Romeo and Juliet, The House of the Spirits, Major Barbara, and Top Girls, and for Mickey Rowe in The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time at Syracuse Stage. A passionate believer in arts education, Holly’s career has included development and direction of performance programs for underserved children through the Pittsburgh Public Theater and for the Hope Academy of Music and the Arts. She is a proud union member of Actors’ Equity and SAG/AFTRA.
