Ocean of Soul Band
UNIT MISSION & VISION STATEMENTS: The university band program provides opportunities for students with performance experience and those with musical career or professional aspirations to prepare quality music and deliver engaging performances.
OFFICE LOCATION:
SERVICES PROVIDED: The university band program comprises the “Ocean of Soul” Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, Pep Band, Trombone Choir, Tuba/Euphonium Ensemble, and Percussion Ensemble.
PROGRAMMING: TSU athletic bands (the “Ocean of Soul” marching band and the TSU Pep Band) perform at all home and selected away football and basketball games that take place during the academic year. TSU’s concert ensembles present concerts on campus and at selected off-campus venues. Additionally, our music units perform at a variety of community and corporate events, such as the 2018 and 2019 performances of the Houston Urban Nutcracker, the 2017 Houston Astros World Series Victory Parade, and the Emancipation Park Rededication Celebration.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Participation in the university band is open to fulltime TSU students. Wind and Percussion instrumentalists have the option of scheduling an in-person or online audition. Auditions for band auxiliary units (“Motion” dance squad, “Waves” color guard, and “Platinum Girls” twirlers) take place each spring. The “Tiger Sensations” dance squad, a separate unit, performs at home basketball games. They hold auditions during the fall semester. Current or prospective TSU students can contact Linda Coach-Riley for audition information.
