Compared to other ventures, Whisky remains virgin territory and there are great deals to be done. The Whisky Market Ltd is a new and innovative company that can provide buyers with an insight into the previously secret world of Scottish Malt Whisky.
The option of buying first fill virgin oak Bordeaux red wine casks (filled with 225 litres of the finest Scottish spirit) has until now been close to impossible for the private individual. With The Whisky Market Ltd, the process is made simple as we have been allocated a small but meaningful tranche of first fill casks to broker to the general public.
Why Whisky in casks? Whisky is incredibly diverse in its applications. The joy of owning Whisky is something that the majority of the general public will never experience due to the nature of low supply and constant global demand. Scotch can only be distilled in Scotland, the rules and regulations, similar to the appellation controls in Bordeaux means that strict guidelines govern the production and the maturation process of Scottish Malts.
Once a young cask is yours, you get to experience the joy of sampling it as it matures whilst also witnessing the effect that time in the wood has on spirit. You may want to visit the distillery where it was produced or stored and get to know the people involved in the production process.
uisge beatha: The water of life Whisky has been adopted by the world’s aspiring classes as their tipple of choice, this has certainly given exports a life-enhancing boost. Exports have almost doubled since 2007 to £4.3bn, and Whisky now “accounts for more than 25 per cent of the UK’s entire food and drink overseas market,” says Campbell Evans of the Scottish Whisky Association.
The Golden Age of Whisky has legs. For the foreseeable future market forces are favouring great single malts; growing demand for a decreasing stock, casks and bottles means that prices are going up.
In terms of exit strategy we are perfectly placed to be able to strike a deal with the blenders after a three year hold, alternatively you might want to bottle and create your own family or company malt.

Scotch Whisky consumption is rising all over the world. Even in traditional markets. 90% of all Whisky produced is exported.
The industry is not beholden to a bubble in the Chinese market. The Chinese market hasn’t even got going yet! India consumes more Whisky than the rest of the world combined.
There is a shortage of Whisky needed for blending. Diageo has recently completed a new distillery ‘Rose Isle’ producing 10,000,000 litres per year for blending
realising only a quarter of their blending needs, they are building more distilleries but this wont happen for the next 6 years. 30% of Diageo profit comes from Whisky.
Why don’t distilleries hold on?
Exit Strategy?
Distilleries need to have cash flow as they wait for other stocks of Whisky to mature to be old enough to sell. They sell a small percentage of their new make spirit to brokers and bottlers. They sell to bottlers like Gordon and MacPhail and Douglas and Laing, and to brokers who sell to the very same bottlers and blenders, our supplier has been buying whisky for over 5 years and has built up a trust that we want to take into the UK private buyers market. Nobody outside the industry has this type of relationship, our casks come from Chateaux in Bordeaux and are used for 24 months for the maturation of great wines, our Whisky is kept in the best quality wood, equal to that of a Bordeaux Grand Cru.
Your Whisky can be sold back to The Whisky Market Ltd who will in turn sell it back to the blenders. Blenders will not buy one or two casks, but will buy in bulk and we can guarantee the quality. First preference is that we want your cask back. The quality is such that it can be expected that a high proportion will be good enough to bottle as a single cask. This would mean keeping the cask until mature enough to bottle and sell, drink or to use as corporate gifts. The Whisky can be sold to speculators or Whisky clubs through us and it can always be sold privately, as a whole or in part. The cask is yours to do what you want with.
