Welcome to our 2nd annual Moving On Bull Sale. I would like to start by thanking everyone who came to our first sale. It was wonderful to see the stands full on a foggy February day. A big thank you also to all the friends and neighbors who helped us get ready prior to the sale and on sale day. It looks like our cattle industry has finally turned a corner and has a bright future. Breeding females are going to be a shortage as we try and increase cowherd numbers across North America.
We try to raise sound, functional cattle that will last. Feet and udder quality, docility, and cattle that will gain weights on low quality feed.
Once again Rick and Ruby Flicek are consigning a good set of Black Angus bulls. We will also have a selection of light birth weight Red Angus bulls form Dalynn’s parents Robert & Karen Harris of Koran Stock Farm. There are also some tremendous bred and open commercial heifers from our customers. Please come early for dinner. Randy is cooking some prime rib roasts and he does an outstanding job. This is the bull we sold to Hillsvale Colony for $38,000. We bought 1/2 back and are extremely happy we did. We calved his first daughters last year, and they were everything we expected, and more. They’re a uniform group of heifers with terrific udders, outstanding feet and bone, and all these calves have extraordinary vigor at birth. Many of the characteristics we were hoping the 9D cow would pass on have shown up in this bull. We feel his group of heifers will be the heart and soul of the future cow herd.

We purchased a 1/2 interest in this bull from Stuart and Cathy Crone. He has developed into an outstanding individual. He’s super thick, has great eye appeal, and a fantastic rear end. Well 2010 turned out to be a good year for us. A big thank you to the Ramsay family for inviting us into their on farm sale and being such great people to work with. With everyones’ hard work we had a good sale, and we think our 2011 sale will be even better. Our purebred herd is increasing nicely, and with that the amount of bulls we can bring out to offer. Last summer and fall made us little nervous with the weather, but we managed to get a few odd jobs done on the farm and most importantly our feed up in good condition. We have our bulls on self feed hay, and they are pail fed a screening pellet ration. We have treated them with Ultrabec 7, Pyramid 4 and Ivomec.
Our 2 yr olds will be semen tested prior to the sale. The yearlings will be wintered until April 1st. They will be semen tested mid march due to the younger age of some of our calves. We ask that each bull returning to the farm be insured. If you wish to view our bulls prior to the sale, please feel free to stop by the farm. We would first like to thank the Ramsay’s for the invitation to sell in the 2nd Annual ‘Moving on Bull Sale’.
Due to Robert’s ill health we dispersed our whole cattle herd in November. In order to best sell the cows, we presented this group of bulls with their dam as calves-at-side. After the sale, these bulls were sent to Phil and Glenda Collinge’s and put on feed to be sold in our own Top Genes Sale. In late December, our partners in that sale, the Johners, sold their sale bulls. Shortly afterwards we accepted the Ramsay’s gracious offer to sell our bulls with them. This group of yearling bulls are heifer bulls with an average birth weight of 84 lbs and a 205-day weight of 665 lbs. These bulls were on grass all summer and were weaned in early September. A couple of these bulls have a little heavier birth weight and will work on young cows or bigger heifers. The two year-old bulls cataloged here were not a part of the dispersal sale. Every year we hold back a package of yearlings to be sold the next year to support our bull buyers who are in need of older bulls. We will stand behind our buyers as we have for the last 25 years of selling bulls. We still have access to a handful of bulls if there should be any unforeseen problems and will make sure you have a breeding bull for the pasture this summer. Thanks again to all those who have supported us for the last 15 years in the Top Genes Bull Sale and the ‘Wish We Weren’t’ dispersal sale. TERMS: All sales are made in Canadian funds. Cash or half cash balance due June 1, 2011 interest free. Please leave a post dated cheque on sale day with transfer and shipping instructions. Other terms can be arranged, talk to Cal.
DELIVERY: Can be arranged. Free delivery up to 300 miles. All commercial heifers must be taken home sale day. If you are unable to take home your heifers, please make arrangements with our consignors.
GUARANTEE: All bred females have been pregnancy tested and are guaranteed in calf. Bulls are semen tested and guaranteed to be breeders. Each animal becomes the responsibility of the purchaser as soon as sold. All bulls must be insured. Insurance is provided sale day. Standard Canadian Hereford Association Breeder’s Guarantee applies.
