WELCOME
Welcome to the 2024 edition of our Leahy Select Sale. We firstly wish to thank our customers of the past year, both those who bought cattle in our 2023 sale and those who sourced cattle privately. Your support and belief in our program is much appreciated. There continues to be tremendous optimism in the cattle industry as demand has outstripped supply, which is particularly encouraging for our young operation.
We have added greater diversity to our sale offering this year, but the fundamentals remain the same. We calve a large proportion of our herd on grass, so calving ease, mothering ability, udder quality, and soundness of movement are very important. Furthermore, our mature cowherd is wintered entirely on dry hay, so doability and fleshing ability are consistently selected for.
With these criteria in mind, we have begun to develop an Angus component to our herd. We greatly appreciate the functionality and maternal traits in these cattle, while they also compliment our direct to consumer beef program.
We have found there to be a demand for extra age bulls, both for spring time breeding as two year olds and in fall calving herds. As such, we have held over a group of bulls born April-July. These bulls are designed to be trouble free. Their dams need to calve and nurse these bulls on their own, grow them on grass, and winter with them outdoors until weaning in mid winter. From there, these bulls have been grown along on a grain and hay or pasture ration. They have ran on grass all summer, are sound, and have not had feet touched. We truly believe that being fed slower with plenty of exercise pays dividends in terms of soundness, mobility, and ability to breed.
These bulls can cover more and larger cows than most yearlings, and have the benefit of better holding condition while they do so. If it suits the buyer, we can winter their bull until spring at an arranged cost until spring.
On the female side of our offering, in both the Simmental and Angus divisions, we are offering fancy show prospects; deep pedigreed, high quality bred heifers; and genetic opportunities from an elite donor in each breed. These cattle are selected for trouble free function and high end potential.
As usual, our friends at Academy Hill’s offering is well bred and excellently presented, consisting of three heifers ideal for both the breeding pen or a run on the show circuit next year.
Ben Wright from T Bar C has been through these cattle several times, knows them well, and is glad to assist with any inquiries. If you have any questions as to the online bidding process, any of the sales staff or consignors would be happy to assist you.
We invite you to come out and tour these cattle, either on sale day or in the weeks before. Videos will also be posted in early November for those unable to make it.
Thanks for your interest,
PATRICK LEAHY

FROM THE DESK AT T BAR C
The T Bar C team is incredibly proud to welcome you to the fourth annual Leahy Select Simmental Production sale with Academy Hill Livestock, hosted via DLMS Farmgate on November 15th & 16th.
Patrick Leahy is a sharp-minded and attentive cattleman, admired for his meticulous approach and his consistently upbeat, enthusiastic demeanor. The Leahy family are the newest generation behind deep roots in both purebred livestock and their home in Douro Township, where they have been breeding cattle with a focus on eye appeal and longevity since their farm’s establishment in 1825. Over the years, their farm has evolved through many stages, maintaining its commitment to quality, longevity, and functionality.
The 2024 offering echoes the success of past years, with a selection that builds on the exceptional foundation laid since the inaugural sale. If you’re in search of a herd bull, Lot 1 presents “PLL Legend 14L,” a Simmental bull who has been a standout from day one. With impressive growth, structural soundness, and true bull presence, he exemplifies the qualities every breeder looks for. Long-bodied, big-footed, with ample testicle and athletic, fluid movement, “Legend” carries the genetics to make a lasting impact. Sired by NGDB Structure, known for producing top-notch progeny, and backed by a highly maternal IRCC dam who has quickly become a cornerstone in the Leahy herd, this bull combines elite performance with a proven maternal line. A sister to “Legend” was selected by the Elmhirsts in last fall’s sale and went on to produce a $10,000 favourite in the 2024 Quality Control sale. With the confidence to breed a select group of females to him this summer, the Leahy family eagerly anticipates his calves.
Leahy’s have once again provided an excellent opportunity for early bull shopping, with Full Blood and Black future herd sires on offer. These bulls promise calving ease without sacrificing thickness, power, or soundness. Their extra age and development will prove valuable at breeding time, bringing with it extra peace of mind.
Adding to the excitement are guest consignors Academy Hill Livestock, who dug deep to offer three beautifully made heifer calves.
I’ve had the pleasure of knowing the Leahy family for many years, and I can honestly say they manage their cattle in nearly ideal fashion. Patrick is a sharp, detail-oriented cattleman with a positive, upbeat outlook. While I wholeheartedly recommend their offering based on its undeniable quality, I believe the young Leahy family embodies the best qualities of this industry.
As always, please contact us at T Bar C with any questions you may have regarding the offering, as we are quite knowledgeable of this great young family’s program.

Fill out the registration form to signup for a free user account. It allows you to select a username and password for use on all Farm Gate Timed auctions. This program will send you text and email messages whenever there is activity on your favorite lots, or someone challenges your proxy bid. This is why you will be asked for both your current email and cell phone number.
If you are a past participant in the Farm Gate Timed auctions, simply enter your username and password to continue. This takes you to a list of both current and upcoming Farm Gate Auctions. Select the LEAHY SELECT SIMMENTAL ONLINE PRODUCTION SALE
2. You can choose your favourite lots in the sale at this time. The program will allow you to open either all sale lots, or just your favorite lots on your screen. Any time there is active bidding on a lot you have identified on your favorite list, you will get a text and/or an email noting this activity.
3. The program allows you to place a proxy bid on any sale lot. This protects your interest in any lot of interest for you to a specified dollar value you set, when you may not be able to give 100% attention to the sale. If the lot has a $2000 bid on it and you place a proxy bid of $3500 into the system, the computer will bid $2100 for you. But if some one else bids $2200, the computer will again bid for you, this time at $2300. The system will look after your interest to a maximum of $3500. If another bidder is on at $3600, your proxy will no longer be effective and you will no longer have the winning bid on this lot without once again logging in and bidding again, or moving your attention to a second lot of interest.
4. At closing time of the sale, the entire sale will extend bidding for 5 minutes if a bid is placed on any lot in the sale. Any bid received after 6 PM will extend the sale by 5 minutes, from the time of that bid. When no bidding occurs for 5 minutes, the computer will declare the sale finished.
5. Within 24 hours of the sale close, the sale consignor will contact all winning bidders to arrange payment, transfer of pedigrees and delivery/pick up of your lot.
If you require assistance with using the new DLMS Farm Gate web site, if you don’t understand how to create a favorites list or proxy bid, or you just plain want to bid via phone, please talk to any of the DLMS team.

This fella is a favourite around here, and checks the boxes for an ideal herd bull. Long bodied, broad topped, and clean made through the front end for easy calving while free moving on a square, well balanced hoof should make for longevity in the breeding pasture. His dam is a high performing cow who was a feature in the Skors dispersal in Alberta, coming from a herd long renowned for the commonsense quality of their successful bull sales. His sire, Hart State of War, has become an AI staple for Semex, producing well balanced herd bulls and popular, productive females on an excellent EPD profile. A favourite sister sold last year to Siddall’s in Nova Scotia, where she has had a successful year on the show circuit for them.

Cattleman’s Type of bull here. Like the other bulls in the offering, he was born on grass and never looked back. Consistently stood out for growth and performance, with plenty of width of top in a long bodied package. A pen of steers with his stamp on them should be just the ticket in today’s market. For those with replacement heifers in mind, his dam is an easy keeping, high performing cow with a silky udder who consistently weans some of our heaviest calves.

Tried and tested option in this well balanced breeding machine. This is a bull we have been very keen on from birth, and used heavily as a yearling, breeding him to 25 cows and heifers. We were impressed by his ability to maintain soundness and condition while breeding and even more impressed with his calf crop. They calved easily, and are stamped consistently with wide tops, long frames, fleshiness, and good temperament. After using him heavily again this year, and planning on retaining daughters, we decided to make this bull available in his prime. Study the pictures of his feet after coming off grass with a group of 50 cows- soundness won’t be an issue here. Ideal on a herd of red, white, or tan cows to make those sale topping calves so in demand these days.

As we grow our Angus division, we wanted to offer a bred heifer from a group we developed this year. This heifer is big bodied, smooth moving, square footed, and is setting down a nice udder with four evenly placed teats. Elegant and feminine without giving up power, the functionality of the Greenwood Foxhole daughters has been well proven at LLB. Look to her early breeding to Connealy Craftsman for a highly marketable heifer calf.
Bred to Connealy Craftsman April 6, 2024. Preg checked safe to breeding, sexed female.
