Committee Welcome....

Welcome to the 2024 Alberta Charolais Select Sale!

As we gear up for the fall shows and sales, this season is shaping up to be one of the most exciting times for the Charolais industry in Alberta. With many outstanding entries heading to events like the Olds Fall Classic and Farmfair’s National Show in Edmonton, I can’t wait to see the high-caliber animals that will be showcased at the Alberta Select Show and Sale!

This year, we’re introducing exciting changes to our bull shows. On Friday, we’ll be featuring division classes for the single bull pen show, with Junior, Senior, and Coming Two-Year-Old divisions. Champions from each class will advance to the People’s Choice Showdown, where we’ll determine our Grand and Reserve Champion Bulls. The People’s Choice competition will be a 50/50-style buy-in, with half the proceeds going to the winner and the other half supporting the ACYA.

On Saturday morning, we’ll host the revamped Pair of Bulls pen show, followed by a lunch provided by the ACA, leading into the much-anticipated sale.

Once again, T Bar C has done a fantastic job selecting top-tier heifer calves, bred heifers, pick of the herds, and elite frozen genetics. With the National Show returning to Farmfair this year, we are thrilled to offer the Player’s Club Champion Bull for sale! Additionally, the People’s Choice Bull will also have the chance to be sold—what an incredible opportunity to choose from two of the top bull calves in Alberta!

We invite everyone to join us for our AGM on Friday afternoon, followed by an evening dinner after the single pen bull show. We’ll also be recognizing several outstanding breeders and producers with our annual awards.

On behalf of the ACA Board and the Select Committee, we look forward to seeing you on December 13 & 14 at Westerner Park, Red Deer, Alberta.

From the desk at T Bar...

Welcome to the 2024 edition of Alberta Select Charolais Sale on December 14th at the Westerner Park, Red Deer, Alberta. This feature fall event will add another historic chapter to the great white breed. An outstanding lineup… dynamic in every division. Think of the number of gates opened and pastures travelled in selecting this elite offering.

The breeders involved are progressive and innovative, dedicated to the breed, their programs and our youth. Many of the offering will compete in the Canadian National show at Farm Fair where a 2024 Players Club Champion will be crowned. He sells in addition to the People’s Choice Champion.

The depth and genetic power are second to none. The bred female division is the strongest we have assembled to date. Front pasture foundation material with early services and carrying their coupons due to calve in coming months. With CCYA being hosted by the Alberta juniors in July, we have the strongest, most competitive lineup of 2024 models to select from… fancy, halter broke and ready for competition before maturing into foundation mothers with a track record. When you combine the picks, flushes, embryos and semen, buyers and visitors will have unlimited opportunities in selecting the best Charolais genetics available.

Thanks to Craig, Cathy, Braden and Sarah Scott for their heifer donation to help the youth at CCYA 2025. Charolais and Charolais influence are leading the way in all sectors of the marketplace with only one small problem… demand exceeds supply! On December 14th, you can bid on and own the best Charolais breeding packages in the nation.

We at T Bar C are familiar with this exciting lineup... feel free to give any of our team a call and we will be pleased to assist you with your selections in a professional and confidential manner.

PLAYERS CLUB

CLUB

The ACA is pleased to offer the Player’s Club $50,000 Bull Calf Futurity as the lead off lot in the Alberta Charolais Select Female Sale! Top breeders will gather at the National Show at Farm Fair International to select the 2024 $50,000 Player’s Club Champion! Selling ¾ Interest and Full Possession. No semen can be sold or gifted in Canada until 2025 as the bull will remain exclusive to the Player’s Club membership until that time. International semen sales (including every other country other than Canada) are not restricted in any way or form. Semen may be collected for use by the 1/4 interest owner and the ‘purchaser’ of this lot at their expense. The Player’s Club Champion will be sent to stud as soon as he is deemed to be ready and must freeze the required amount of semen for all Player’s Club members prior to being able to be released to the new owner. The ACA will cover the costs of collecting semen for the Player’s Club membership. Every effort will be made to collect semen in a timely manner but all bulls respond to collection differently and therefore the ACA cannot guarantee when the bull will be available for natural breeding. If you have any questions, any ACA Board member or the sales staff of T Bar C, will be happy to answer them for you.

2 CHAMPION AND/or RESERVE CHAMPION BULL SHOW

Alberta Select Individual Bull Show Friday, December 13, 2024, at 4:00pm

The Grand Champion and/or Reserve Grand Champion bull from that show will be eligible to sell in the Alberta Select sale if the owner chooses. From there those bulls go into a People’s Choice Showdown, where everyone can vote on their favorite bull! Once the votes are tallied we will have our Champion and Reserve Champion Bulls for the 2024 Alberta Select Single Pen Bull Show.

Watch for updates coming to you on social media, on buyagro.com or on DLMS.ca to see if one or both of these champions are added to the sale. Updates will be posted prior to the sale on Saturday, December 14th, 2024 at 1:30pm.

pick of the turnbull bred females

Welcome to the 2024 Charolais Select Sale. Trying to decide which animals to bring this year was incredibly tough; no matter what we would have chosen, there would have been great quality left behind. With many great females to choose from, we figured that choosing your own would be the best way to ensure you get those specific qualities you look for in your herd. This is why we have decided to sell a pick of ANY of our bred females. We have always strived to provide quality genetics that set our customers up for success and feel confident that whatever goal you have for your new female, she will not disappoint.

Over the past few years we have had our cows raise stout, tidy footed, quality breeder bulls such as Duty Free who sold to Palmar Charolais, Hardcore, who sold to HEJ, and Knockin’ Boots, who sold to R Lazy B Ranch, in North Dakota. We believe that our dedication for over 50 years to refining our genetics to get to the place that they are today is why this group of cattle is something we are proud of. There are over 40 bred heifers and 200 bred cows to pick from. Sire groups including Cederlea Yellowstone 184H, Sparrows Default 255K, Keys Dude 223J, Hunter Charolais Jagermister 160J, Hopewell Maholms 15L, Stepplers Magnum 99G, Sparrows Lampman 301L and C2 Kong 120K. Bred between April 10th and July 20th.

Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions you may have. We are always happy to take time to show you the cows or talk on the phone. Pick must be made by our bull sale on March 1, 2025. We look forward to working with whoever purchases this opportunity.

Selling CHOICE OF THE 2025 NGC CAPITALIST 118J SIRED CALF CROP

Capitalist has begun to leave his mark in the breed in North America! Circle Cee partnered with Saddleridge Charolais to bring this powerhouse to Canada in the spring of 2022 and we used him naturally on some select cows that year. The results were outstanding! 10 yearling Capitalist sons were sold privately, one heifer calf was a high seller at the AB Select sale in 2023, and 3 heifers were retained in the Circle Cee program. Capitalist EPDs are in the top 1% of the breed for 11 out of 13 traits including WW, YW, Milk, and the newly created TSI trait. There are not many bulls in the US or Canada who can compete with Capitalist on EPD performance numbers. The calves don’t just have great EPD’s – they are stylish, performance based, have outcross pedigrees and possess impeccable feet and legs. In 2023 Capitalist was used exclusively in Saddleridge herd and this spring he returned to the pastures of Circle Cee. The Circle Cee cow herd is not large in numbers, but it is extremely high in quality. There are several donors and potential donors gracing the pastures of this 55 year Charolais herd. The entire Circle Cee cow herd was exposed to Capitalist for 100 days and we are very excited to see the 2025 results! We are pleased to offer pick of the entire 2025 calf crop – male or female to the purchaser of this lot. If a bull calf is selected Circle Cee will retain a ¼ semen interest or if a female is selected – one flush at the buyers convenience. The terms will be half on sale day and the remainder due upon selection (August 1, 2025). Circle Cee will work with the purchaser to ensure PA status, homo polled status are known prior to the selection.

What an opportunity! Every year when selecting females to come to such a prestigious sale, we try to dig a little deeper. This is one that we were reluctant to let go. FVC Evetta 57L is a great example of what HRJ Holywater has done for us. A ton of rib shape, structurally correct, easy doing all in a very attractive package. Backed by a cow family that has deep roots into the herd book, we feel this bred has a very bright future.

DYV Esmeralda 24E knocks it outta the park yet again with her 2024 progeny- Parsons Mimosa 34M ! This cow is a big time proven producer, you may remember her 2023 heifer calf who was a high seller at this very sale last year going to Kacie Murray, Lakeview Charolais. This maternal sister is one that should not be leaving the farm, but it’s the Alberta Select, and if you’re going to bring one it had better be your best! She is extremely soft made, with an excellent middle, big hip, oodles of hair, clean front and attractive head. We believe Mimosa 34L is just the right type that can be competitive in the show ring, then go out to be a cow afterwards and make her new owners some front pasture females or top end bulls.

Parsons Mimosa 34M was successfully exhibited at Lloydminster Stockade Round-up, where she was named Reserve Champion Senior Heifer Calf and will also be showcased at Farmfair International.

We really like how our Ruger daughters are developing. The oldest are bred heifers now and we are anxiously waiting for next January as they head into production. SOS 49M stems from a long, successful MXS cow family who has earned her keep here at Springside and her dam 735E is one powerful, perfect uddered, easy keeping female that should last forever. If red factor is your thing, be sure to look up Mocha 49M on sale day.

This is an exceptional heifer calf that stands out in every way. She combines flawless structure with excellent depth, muscle expression, and eye appeal. She is the first daughter of the Agribition Champion and Show Bull of the Year SOS Kickstart 825K offered for sale and if his first calf crop is any testament to how he can produce it should be amazing. Her dam 107F has been an outstanding producer for Connection Cattle Company and has produced 2 other daughters that sold to Landaker Charolais and Owen Walgenbach from Legacy Charolais. With generations of proven genetics that ensure she will be a valuable addition to any herd. A true standout, she has the potential to become a foundation female with long-lasting impact.

Empress 129M is a standout heifer who is truly something special! She combines top-tier genetics with eye-catching style and flawless structure. Deep-bodied, smooth-fronted, and balanced, she has all the makings of a future herd matron. This cow family represents multiple generations of donor cows in the SOS program and we knew we had to add these genetics to our new Charolais herd. Whether you’re looking for a future show prospect or a cornerstone female for your breeding program, this calf ticks all the boxes. Her potential is unlimited, and she is a priority for any serious breeder. Don’t miss this opportunity!

Her dam - Miss 220G is a beautiful, feminine, never miss cow. She’s super long bodied, big volume cow who’s raised 4 consecutive females in our herd. 61M’s maternal grandsire - Sparrows Braxton 519C in 2016, was the high selling bull in Canada for a whopping $107,000! Braxton has proven himself to produce high quality cattle with the look!

On the paternal side of her pedigree, you will find it also stacked with outstanding genetics like Turnbull’s Knockdown 43H. We selected Knockdown out of Turnbulls 2023 sale. 43K was a stout made, hairy calf sired by Cedarlea Yellowstone 184H. 184H is an exceptional standout legacy sire who’s big hipped, deep made, clean fronted, stands on a big, sound foot with a quiet disposition. Knockdown was also backed by a solid, heavy milking Blue Print dam that is still proving herself as she’s raising her 4th consecutive bull calf this year!

Whether you’re a Junior member looking for a heifer to show at CCYA in Stettler, AB or you’re looking to add some proven genetics to your herd, Sunshine 61M will be a great investment for years to come.

Lana is one of the broodiest females we have ever sold. She is big and soft middled, massive topped and great hipped. There is no doubt she is going to continue to grow into a tank of a cow. We mentioned the Remington females speaking for themselves and every year seem to have a Zenith granddaughter in this sale. The maternal power both on paper and in the pen is undeniable.

When we decided to consign to Alberta Select; we felt we needed to keep the Spruceview herd history alive. Ms. Lorne 102L exemplifies the maternal traits that Lorne built his herd around. This April born bred heifer checks a lot of boxes for any herd. She has great feet, beautiful udder development and is a very easy doing female. Her pedigree is stacked with sires like Apex, Bluegrass, and Hooey; some of the great bull and female makers within the breed. If you are looking for a foundation female to build your herd around Ms. Lorne 102L is an opportunity, you do not want to miss. A FIRST for Alberta Select! Roselea is offering the first opportunity to purchase a direct daughter of EC Buzz 237 PLD in Canada. Buzz was the pick of Jamie Eggleston’s South Dakota herd and is our number 1 walking bull, he is all about style, and calving ease. Buzz females are the highlight of the replacement pen year after year. RLEA 38M is a young, moderately framed, and big bodied female with a great look. This young heifer will be the focus of the show or a key cornerstone future breeding piece in your program. RLEA 38M should be at the top of your list!

RLEA MS. STEALTH 38M

RLEA Kenzie Storm 77M is the first calf off our young Buzz donor female, Roselea Kenzie 37K. RLEA 77M is a high-performance, long made, big- hipped heifer that has been a standout since day one. Real hard one to part with here, but what an opportunity!! There really is no guesswork with this girl. She combines two great animals that we purchased from McAvoy Charolais. MVY Gus 20G produced some great bulls for us and his females (now in production) are the top young cows in our herd. MVY Precious 31E produced us a top daughter that we retained, as well as some great bulls. FLC Denali 3J, now working at Sunshine Oak Charolais and FLC Magnum 9K, now working at Hok Ranching.

Maybe the best part is her service to Sparrows Wheaton 101J. We were so impressed with his calves that we doubled our semen order this year and flushed to him as well. The Wheaton/Gus cross has worked fantastic for us, including a top heifer bull prospect FLC Warlock 6M, who is one to watch for. We expect 4L to hit a homerun her first time out and to be a bigtime producer for years to come.

Mary Jane is a female from the infamous WC Milestone 5223 P. This sire is hard to get in Canada, so this is your chance to get this | beautiful female. I have many full siblings to Mary Jane; including full sibling NIER Karaoke 1K who was Junior Yearling Champion at Farmfair International 2023. Mary Jane is a deep-bodied female, that is extremely wide over the top line but still has that feminine profile. Mary Jane has an ideal foot structure and moves well. Mary Jane is in the top 15% for MK and for MWWT. Mary Jane has been shown all summer and will be back on the show string for this fall.

Two of the most superior heifers of the replacement pen that we decided we would offer. Sired by the 2022 high selling yearling bull in Canada and going on to be the 2022 National Champion the sire of these females need no introduction and to say their cow families are among the best is an understatement as they have powerhouse breeding on both sides of her pedigree.
