Welcome to the 2024 edition of our Genetic Focus Production Sale! Every year, as we prepare for this sale, we are reminded how blessed we are to be a part of the agriculture industry.

Time flies. This is the 10th Edition of the Genetic Focus. Ten years of selecting only our best stock to represent the Six Mile program. Decades of breeding decisions, crossing fingers on preg-check morning, dusty days in the barn halter breaking, weeks spent in the picture pen, nights laying out the sale book and numerous catalog proofs.

On the Six Mile team, we can all agree on one thing; we are DAMN proud of this set of cattle. Some operations may “dig deep” into their replacement pen to assemble their sale group, but at Six Mile we “skim the top”. Only the best make the cut for the Genetic Focus. We are fortunate enough to be able to select from 250+ heifer calves, 160+ bred heifers, and nearly 550 momma cows to put together a truly elite set of Red and Black Angus Females. Rest assured- we hold nothing back.

We stand with these cattle. They are our livelihood. These females are raised in a demanding environment where strength of structure, fleshing ability and a will to live are necessary to survive. Longevity is bred into the Six Mile program.

DELIVERY: Canada- Free Delivery of all live animals paid for within 10 days of sale to the following central locations: Medicine Hat (AB), Saskatoon (SK), Regina (SK), Brandon (MB). Shipping of frozen genetics will be the responsibility of the buyer from listed storage locations. USA/Mexico health testing will be completed by Six Mile. We will help coordinate delivery loads to the USA but delivery costs from Port of Entry will be the responsibility of the buyer.

US FUNDS & EXPORT: American money will be accepted at the most current rate of exchange on sale day and announced prior to the sale. Sale lots will be export tested at Six Mile’s expense.

We purchased the Canadian semen rights on the dark red powerhouse PIE Long Haul 1344, a direct Hard Drive Y120 son. This sire group is big-time! Lot 3 has always been a favourite: long-spined, big-bodied and deep blood-red colour. As a bonus, she looks great on paper, with ten traits in the top 15% of the breed or better!

Our office manager, Rae Tutor, bought the dam of Lot 11 as a bred in last year’s Genetic Focus sale. After we calved her out, I mentioned to Rae that maybe this sporty heifer calf and her momma should stick around Six Mile through the summer to see how the calf progresses... The calf did good, like REALLY good. I like this one more and more every day. She will be on a lot of short lists on sale day.

This Wick daughter has some remarkably unique pieces for the Red Angus breed. She offers an extra shot of bone, frame and length, added soft shag and great running gear. If managed correctly, she will hang a lot of banners and end up as a really cool breeding piece when her show career is over.

Donor Dam to Lot 14 needs little introduction. Misty 131H dominated the show ring in 2021 and is adding to her resume in production. This fancy heifer calf offers added skeletal dimension with a bold turn to her rib cage.

If I were to project which of these heifer calves would hit production with the best udder design, it would be Lot 15; beautiful teat size and spread, it’s becoming a staple of the Lincoln daughters. The Bess cow family came to us through the Bar E L herd purchase. They are big footed, heavy constructed females with more frame and body. Lot 27 fits the mould of the Bess cow family while maintaining attractive Angus characteristics through her front end. Note the exciting early service to the first red hided Showman 338 grandson!

SIX MILE

This gal needs a pilot truck. Bold-bodied and square at the ground, the Red Angus breed could use more stock with punch and power like Lot 28. An intriguing pedigree as wellthe dam of 93L came to us from the good folks at Rohrich Cutting Edge Ranch and has produced at a very high level for us with past daughters highlighting previous Genetic Focus sales to Baxter Blair and Packet Ag Ventures.

Tough to find a hole in this Typhoon daughter- she’s good from any angle. This may be one of the last Typhoon females we sell. The old boy picked his last fight in the bull pasture last fall and, unfortunately, was not the victor. The Goldie cow family has been a mainstay here at Six Mile and can be found in Lots 11 & 43.

FERTILITY GUARANTEE/RIGHT to FLUSH: All bred females in this sale are guaranteed safe in calf, unless otherwise noted, and have been examined by an accredited veterinarian, Dr. Marshall McDonald of Assiniboia Vet Clinic. Six Mile guarantees the open heifer calves as fertile breeders. If new owner is unsuccessful in establishing pregnancy in their female(s), Six Mile reserves the right to have her examined by a veterinarian and returned to Six Mile where we will attempt to breed female within 60 days. If female will not breed, a credit will be given to buyer or a replacement female of equal or greater value. This breeding guarantee does not apply to females that have been; a) attempted to be used in embryo transfer while attempting to establish or maintain pregnancy b) only Artificially inseminated and never exposed to a bull that has passed a recent BSE c) are too obese or thin for reproduction as determined by a veterinarian d) animals who suffer injury, sickness or disease after sale date e) animals that have to be shown while attempting to establish or maintain pregnancy.
