CLARKSVILLE REVITALIZATION PLAN (WHILE WORKING FOR BOOKER DESIGN COLLABORATIVE & URBAN 1, LLC. & IN ASSOCIATION WITH THE CORRADINO GROUP)

This plan examined ways that the City of Clarksville, Indiana could begin to revitalize a once busy regional shopping corridor, which had lost many of its businesses to new suburban malls. We focused particularly on creating a stronger sense of place by den sifying the street wall and proposing a new ‘Town Center.’

Existing Conditions

Responsibilities on the Team: Designed style and layout of the Master Plan documents Coordinated completion of the Master Plan documents Created digital presentation graphics Researched history and current context of the corridor Worked with Principals on the design of key features including the Gateways and Greenway Project Highlights: Emphasis on using New Urbanist ideas to renovate the aging auto-centric shopping corridor

Destinations

Above are the location of key destinations in the corridor and where signage could be placed. As shown, there is signage at the entrances to the corridor, signage at the town center entrances and to direct visitors to the Little League Ball Park and the schools as well as the where a potential trail head could be located in the event that the abandoned rail corridor is developed as a trail.

Recommendations • Conduct a marketing/branding campaign. This campaign must include identification of the image to promote or associate with the corridor. It should include marketing to the region, not just to Clarksville. • Develop unified wayfinding signage. Include iconic images or themes identified during the marketing/branding campaign.

DESIGN CONCEPT: To address Port-au-Prince’s demographic and infrastructure conditions resulting from the earthquake, our design took a focus on the environment of the tent city. We chose an existing tent city in Port-auPrince proposing a long term framework that couples family generated dwellings with larger, civic scale frameworks that operate to create a sustainable, productive, replicated, and dignified urban fabric for Haiti’s tent city residents.

Personal Statement

to e. tabb ormsby

My interest in and devotion to Landscape Architecture and Urban Design originated from an eye-opening six month residency in London, England after undergraduate school. The experience of being easily accessible to many historic yet contemporary inner-city green spaces directed me toward a goal to create similarly vibrant parks within urban areas and, through them, dynamic and livable cities. I am searching for the firm that is able to mentor me toward the accomplishment of my personal goals - offering a variety of green places for urban dwellers to casually embrace, enjoy and engage with nature in their communities and environments.
