DIXIE HIGHWAY INTERCHANGE & PEDESTRIAN MEDIAN (WHILE WORKING FOR BOOKER DESIGN COLLABORATIVE & URBAN 1, LLC. & IN ASSOCIATION WITH THE CORRADINO GROUP)

This project looks at one of the most dangerous highways in Kentucky with the purpose of putting it on a diet and increasing pedestrian safety. One of the main challenges was how to bring pedestrians through the I-264 interchange which includes 5 non-signalized ramps. Our design solution was to take the pedestrian walkway down the center of the highway, allowing for signalized entry on either end and protecting the pedestrians from the high speed traffic coming on and off of the interstate. Another aspect of the project was to use the interchange area as a signature gateway for the Dixie Highway corridor as a whole. The pedestrian median serves as the center piece on the ground level. We wanted to use the large grassy medians along the highway to complete the gateway experience. We also wanted those areas to be low maintenance and to showcase green technologies where appropriate. Responsibilities on the Team: Worked with design team on components and layout of pedestrian median Researched sustainable technologies for interstate medians Participated in public meetings where I explained the design and took public comment Created digital presentation graphics Project Highlights: Working on unique methods of moving pedestrians through interchange areas and making interstate medians beautiful and productive spaces.

PARKLAND NEIGHBORHOOD STUDY (WHILE WORKING FOR BOOKER DESIGN COLLABORATIVE & URBAN 1)

The Parkland neighborhood in West Louisville is one of the oldest Louisville suburbs. Unfortunately, the last 50 years have not been kind and the neighborhood has been actively working to improve the current living conditions to retain residents and attract businesses. Some of the larger issues facing Parkland have to do with vacant housing, closed businesses and the unavailability of good food. As a team, we focused on both design and policy solutions. The design focuses on the commercial center and we recommended creating a weekly market, a public garden and park on a vacant lot, beautifying many of the streets and renovating and re-opening a vacant grocery - all with the goal of increasing pedestrian traffic to make the neighborhood both safer and more attractive to new businesses.

CLARKSVILLE REVITALIZATION PLAN (WHILE WORKING FOR BOOKER DESIGN COLLABORATIVE & URBAN 1, LLC. & IN ASSOCIATION WITH THE CORRADINO GROUP)

This plan examined ways that the City of Clarksville, Indiana could begin to revitalize a once busy regional shopping corridor, which had lost many of its businesses to new suburban malls. We focused particularly on creating a stronger sense of place by den sifying the street wall and proposing a new ‘Town Center.’

Responsibilities on the Team: Designed style and layout of the Master Plan documents Coordinated completion of the Master Plan documents Created digital presentation graphics

Proposed Site Redevlopment

Researched history and current context of the corridor Worked with Principals on the design of key features including the Gateways and Greenway Project Highlights: Emphasis on using New Urbanist ideas to renovate the aging auto-centric shopping corridor

Destinations

Above are the location of key destinations in the corridor and where signage could be placed. As shown, there is signage at the entrances to the corridor, signage at the town center entrances and to direct visitors to the Little League Ball Park and the schools as well as the where a potential trail head could be located in the event that the abandoned rail corridor is developed as a trail.

Recommendations • Conduct a marketing/branding campaign. This campaign must include identification of the image to promote or associate with the corridor. It should include marketing to the region, not just to Clarksville. • Develop unified wayfinding signage. Include iconic images or themes identified during the marketing/branding campaign.

FRANKFORT AVENUE STREET TREE PLAN (WHILE WORKING FOR BOOKER DESIGN COLLABORATIVE & URBAN 1, LLC. )

This project examined the trees and planting conditions of a large section of Frankfort Avenue, a recently energized artery in Louisville, Kentucky. After thoroughly getting to know the existing conditions, we then created a planting plan suggesting areas of permeable paving and types of trees by location and environment.

Tree Planting Conditions & Corridor Character

Responsibilities on the Team: Researched history and current context of the corridor Designed style and layout of the Master Plan documents Created digital presentation graphics Participated in Planning Hearings related to the plan’s approval in a historic overlay district Project Highlights: Worked closely with the neighborhood association to complete a plan that made the neighborhood enthusiastically involved and could be used by the Metro government to guide tree planting Worked with representatives of the Kentucky School for the Blind to ensure the planting recommendations were safe for the large blind community in the area

CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTS & DETAILS This is a sample of some of the details and construction documents that I have drawn while with Booker Design Collaborative. ST FRANCIS HIGH SCHOOL The top grouping is from St. Francis High School’s new parking lot which is situated in the center of Downtown Louisville. For this project I worked on all of the construction documents as well as having the opportunity to do much of the design work and attend several planning hearings.

DESIGN CONCEPT: To address Port-au-Prince’s demographic and infrastructure conditions resulting from the earthquake, our design took a focus on the environment of the tent city. We chose an existing tent city in Port-auPrince proposing a long term framework that couples family generated dwellings with larger, civic scale frameworks that operate to create a sustainable, productive, replicated, and dignified urban fabric for Haiti’s tent city residents.

7312 73rd Way West Palm Beach, FL

My devotion to Landscape Architecture and Urban Design began with an eye-opening six month residency in London, England. Being accessible to many historic and contemporary urban green spaces inspired me to create similarly vibrant parks within urban areas and, through them, dynamic and livable cities. My work to date has been focused on design and preservaion in small integrated local projects. I seek a dynamic organization that will facilitate the accomplishments of my personal goals; offering a variety of green places for urban dwellers to engage with nature in their community and environments.
