Spring/Summer 2021 Competitive Racing Swimwear Print Designs
During my time working at Speedo, I was briefed with creating graphics that were edgy, psychedelic in nature and conveyed the need for fast dynamic movement. Aimed at the teen to young adult market I started playing around with Graphics that could portray this concept in playful ways. Distorting logo placement under water and lines on a page creating ‘glitch’ effects, I was able to transform the look and feel of typography.

Spring/Summer 2021 Junior Swimwear Print Designs
Inspiration drawn from THE ATTICO Swirl-print high-neck bikini
Here I have introduced new elements of colour into my artwork to add a sense of energy and pop against the darker backgrounds. These colours can then be introduced into swimwear or sportswear digital prints.

Spring/Summer 2021 Junior Swimwear Print Designs During my internship with Speedo, with the design team at Pentland Brands in Nottingham, specifically working on the Summer 2021 Speedo ranges. I was thrilled to be supported in taking a creative, physical design approach; using paints, marbling, photography through water and projection to create an exciting archive of material of which to bring forward into print designs. This made the process much more personal, using my creative license, I was able to input my passion for hands- on design to develop the graphics whilst responding to the range boards produced and approved by project managers.

A need for restorative wellness will drive fluid forms and reassuring slogans. Taking inspiration from directional airflow and light projections that convey movement. Leverage wellness properties through energising blues to enhance performance.

Inspired by the Adidas ‘4DFuturecraft’ trainer. I have designed a trainer with a 3D printed shock absorbent sole that mimics how the body and foot react to force and accounts for the massive changes in foot size, making it perfect for runners.

OFF-WHITE FINAL T-SHIRT DESIGN

My final t-shirt design for brand ‘Off-White’ has been inspired by a combination of research and experimentation; playing with scale and composition using elements of collaged paper and magazine cuttings. The focal image used in the design is developed from a manipulated photograph of the Bocconi University situated in Milan, Italy. I chose this image to reference the origins of the Off-White brand which is in Milan, founded by Designer Virgil Abloh. Inspired by collage artist Abigail Reynolds, I began to experiment with physical cut and paste techniques concealing and revealing parts of an image to see fragments of it in colour, contrasting to the monochrome image behind. I felt this was a relevant technique to explore as I noticed that OffWhite also utilise historic imagery in their graphics combined with a deconstructive approach, restitching and reworking to give a nostalgic fresh aesthetic. On the back of the shirt I have incorporated the use of the arrowhead logos and included text ‘in quotations’ by adding “hemline” at the bottom of the T-shirt alluding to indefinite descriptions of the garment. This allows the consumer to express their own individuality and creativity through their clothing.

NIKE FINAL T-SHIRT DESIGN
MOVE THE WORLD
BACK
FRONT
Inspired by the way that design is moving with the ‘metaverse' and by the rise in trends fusing nature and technology, I have developed a design combining hand techniques with digital rendering. Here menswear graphics are influenced by digital mapping and the gaming world. To develop the design I started by creating a free machine embroidery piece on heavy black jersey before scanning it and overlaying as a digital print combined with an enlarged Nike swoosh. The central back print is a manipulation of lines I placed on a scanner bed to create a glitch effect continuing the links to the digital interface. The colour pallet reinforces the strong black and white Nike branding combined with the neon blue and green hyberbrights of the embroidery image. These colours were inspired by graphics seen on the Nike lab radio posters, a Tokyo based podcast. The use of motivational tag lines is featured with ‘Power your Progress’ printed on the left sleeve and ‘Move the World’ on the centre back. These slogans reflect the brand’s values and celebrate Nike’s 50 years of moving the world forward through the power of sport.

MCQUEEN FINAL T-SHIRT DESIGN
BACK
FRONT
The trend of Twilight garden which combines nature with an otherworldly edgy element, fits perfectly with the signature of McQueen’s work, I have been inspired by surface texture and pattern of skin, animal wings and plants to develop this design. Here, day and night collide in the movement of colour from twilight to the darkness of a dreamworld. The initial inspiration came from McQueens savage beauty collection using the colours, textures and mirroring techniques of physical products. The print for this final design is a combination of a study of snake skin and the development of a free-hand machine embroidery piece with 3D organza flowers. These have been scanned and layered to create an asymmetric T-shirt that fits with the higher price point of the McQueen collections. I have played with iterations of the design with a variety of manipulations of artwork, including ink on paper, digital mirroring and overlay variations of the machine embroidery work. For the final design I have selected the simpler ‘McQ’ logo placed on the sleeve hem; however other iterations allow for more playful placements of bolder McQueen branding to develop the collection.
