The Task

CONTRIBUTIONS

Design a roof for the city. A place where the market can still take place. The roof should be made of concrete. Design it higher, skinnier, test the limit of the material.

Lageplan M 1:2000

The Static System

Wind/Last

consists of endulum struts with three hinges. It is reacting to wind loads through horizontal struttings. The roof is economic through its modular design and thin elements.

The Concrete-Model

was produced with hot-wire and hand cut polystyrene forms and 3-D printed positives which made silicon negatives possible.

The Limit

of the material was tested to the point of exhaustion (regarding height and thickness). This was proven when our 1:500 model collapsed during the final presentation.

Site plan of chosen popular location. The white concrete steps already exist and there is also historical context regarding static goals. The Americans constructed a ponton-bridge within 10 hours to reach the right bank of the Rhein in 1945.

ARCH HISTORIC PRESERVATION static | material

Transport possibilities

The first dome was made of concrete, with a minimum thickness of 2cm and an oculus in its center. The struts don‘t exist anymore. The task was to find a public place to exhibit it, near its current storage.

CITY PLANNING DUBLIN housing HOMES SA CLOUGH ... is a neighborhood in which every inhabitant feels like they are coming home. „Home“ means identifying with your surroundings, safety and knowing the people around you. Participating within the community is the key element of Homes Sa Clough.

Our goal is to create a community within the whole

CONTRIBUTIONS neighborhood which is architectually expressed through the blocks. Providing large gardens for the inhabitants, and offering communal rooms in the ground floor of one of the buildings per block offers space to meet, where every user group finds living circumstances customized to their needs and wishes.

CITY PLANNING DUBLIN housing

CONTRIBUTIONS

ART SA CLOUGH With the cultural center „Art Sa Clough“ we create a point of attraction that includes the history and people of Stoneybatter, whilst shaping an identity. We imagine the housing system will work as a

Co-operative, organizing planning and funding the new developments using socially sustainable guidelines. This will offer the tenants fair renting conditions and an opportunity to be a part of the organisation.

Picto: Floorplan development of solitaire houses

Living by a Park Regarding to the special location very close to the park, we wanted to offer different sizes of habitations for different kinds of people. To get distanced to the highway and the hospital, the L-buildings hug the solitaires. The solitaires are designed for higher prized flats. All flats are connected to an underground carpark and storage place.

PHOTO To capture a persons character in pictures is a beautiful art, whilst processing the photo using programs like Photoshop has sometimes been considered a distortion of the original photograph. We are living in a society in which questionable ideals dominate beauty. It is certainly not healthy or even possible for people to maintain this image, but we have internalised ideals of what we consider beautiful and what we don‘t. A healthy balance of retouching whilst preserving the integrity and atmosphere is one of the secrets to a good picture.

Another big secret of model-, fashion- and beauty photography is teamwork. The interaction in the team, between different people and their individual personalities - even if they do not stand in front of the camera is visible in the picture. Good teamwork comes across as personal and individual in the image.
