A hearty welcome to each and everyone associated with this exciting tournament. Whether a player or spectator, we all will be witnessing play by the finest teams in our State. Through the course of the Regionals and Finals some must lose by the very nature of the sport, but each player and coach should be pleased and gratified to be here. The WIAA would like to thank your Tournament Manager and al I the helpers for hosting this event for our schools. We know this involves the work of many, many people, and we do appreciate it. Best wishes to each and everyone. We know all of you will enjoy this culminating event. WIAA
WASHINGTON INTERSCHOLASTIC ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION Position Statement on Behavior at Sports Events WIAA is definitely committed to a strong athletic program for all of its students. A
fundamental aspect of this strength lies within the values taught and stressed in that
program.
Responsible behavior and sportsmanship are inherent in those values.
With this in mind the following statement is made: l.
Responsible behavior and sportsmanship of participants and coaches is found in
most schools and demonstrates that these values are being taught.
2.
The few schools that represent exceptions to the above must place greater emÂ
3.
Responsible behavior and sportsmanship of student spectators is less common

than with participants and coaches.
It appears that some schools are making
little, if any, effort to stress these values for spectators. 4.
All schools are charged with the specific responsibility of teaching these values
to all people connected with interscholastic sports.
Schools are further charged
with the specific responsibility of establishing procedures to ensure that these values are taught.
5.
While the schools have less control over adult spectators, each school is charged
with the responsibility of informing the adult spectator of these values and that
proper behavior is expected of them also.

HOW MANY SCHOOLS? How many Washington high schools play boys' basketball? Here's the breakdown by division: AAA-88
A-73
AA-68
B-96
One team from every 5.5 AAA schools enter regional tournaments, one in four for AA, one in every 4.5 for A, and one in six for the B schools. As you will notice from league standings, five leagues still have mixed classifications.

passed through the turnstiles at Seattle's King足 dome Stadium to witness the KINGBOWL - the setting for four High School Championship Foot足 ball Games. The four games were played with the first one kicking off at 11 :00 a.m., the second at 2 p.m., the third at 5 p.m., and the fourth and final game at 8 p.m. The first game, the "B" Championship, had over l 0,000 spectators, the largest number of people ever to see a "B" Classification game. The "A" and "AA" Championship games had even more fans. Fans were coming and going through足 out the day and by the time 8 p.m. rolled around,
Part of this memorable weekend's festivities included a marching band competition by 16 high school marching bands from across the State with over 1,600 musicians playing their hearts out. The roof of the Kingdome was "rocking" to say the least. All in all, quite a weekend for the ballplayers, the musicians, the fans and the Washington Inter足 scholastic Activities Association.

Pass, Set, Spike!! These are the familiar words heard each fall in one of the fastest growing sports in the State. In the past five yars the number of schools participating has grown to more than 300 of our 335 high schools. The skill level continues to improve with each year's compe tition. Five years ago State-level rournamenr competition was star1cd by an Invitational held at Renton High School. This past fall there were four official WIAA-State Volleyball Tournaments with one in each of the four classifications, "AAA", ''AA", "A" and "B". November 17 and 18, 1978, will ag<1in be tournament time. You should moke it a point to come and sec our volJeyball players in action as they Pass, Set and Spike to victory!
The Mead High School Marching Band was one of most outstanding bands to perform during the Kingbowl weekend.

"I raise my glass to the State basketball cha1nps and the all-A1nerican drink!' "At ease! 'Td like to take just one moment to commend all the fine young athletes who have performed so val iantly on the basketball court. These wonderful players have fought long and hard all season to earn their victories. We can all be proud of them. "Now, even though you may not be a basketball champion, each one of us goes through a thou sand tough battles every day. "A rough exam in school, a tense three o'clock meeting with the boss, the demanding rigors of running a household all require a sharp mind and a healthy body. It makes one whole heck of a lot of sense to start treating yourself right by drinking
more of that old American favorite-milk! "You milk drinkers already know how this won derful, white liquid puts the coffee jitters to rest... and that a glass of milk is more nutritious than a gallon of some sugary drink. Milk, also, certainly won't give you any empty calories or cavities. "So, from now on, I urge you to drink a glass of milk at every meal. "And if someone should try and sweet-talk you into having something else ... just grit your teeth, drink your milk, and be glad you've got a good set of teeth left to grit. "That's all!"
