RESIDENTIAL The Mills Residence Problem Statement

TC

The Mills family has requested to re-model a residence in Ann Arbor, MI. Dr. Sara Mills is a researcher and lecturer with the Ford school of public policy at the University of Michigan and Mr. Francis Mills is an engineer. They have two children, a 6 year old daughter and a 3 year old daughter. Family time is important to the Mills. They often have dance parties with the children, play games games, and host meals with nearby grandparents. Sara and Francis try to minimize their environmental impact by riding bikes, eating locally sourced food, and they would like to consider sustainability as much as possible in the design of their new home. With this remodel, Sara and Francis want to create a living space on the main floor of the home so that they may age in place.

Concept Statement The goal of this project is to create a comfortable home with an open layout for quality time with the family. Through the use of ADA and sustainable design , the Mills residence will be an age in place house.
