MESSAGE FROM THE

GENERAL MANAGER Dear members, Since starting as the general manager on July 13, I have been warmly welcomed into this community. Thank you. I continue to meet with committee members, residents, and stakeholders in our TD community. Learning and listening to community members reinforces my understanding that TD is unlike any other community I have worked and lived. Through this process, I am getting a better idea of where we should focus our efforts for improvement. To help staff and myself learn more, we will be launching a series of surveys in the coming months. The surveys are an important component to our planning process. These will help inform us as we plan services through COVID-19 and embark on new initiatives moving forward. Please be patient with us and take a few minutes to fill out these surveys as you see them arrive in your inbox. We are grateful for your time. To ensure you receive these email surveys, please update your contact information at tahoedonner.com/contact-update.

A COVID-19 SUMMER Tahoe Donner has been working diligently to safely provide low-risk activities during this pandemic. Limited capacities, reservation systems, mandatory masks, enhanced sanitation procedures, signage and more have all been put in place to reduce the spread. Please continue to practice social distancing and hygiene, and remind your family and guests of updated TD protocols. Our offerings will evolve to ensure we are current with the latest safety measures, such as the changes made at The Lodge Restaurant & Pub.

Learn more about COVID-19 safety at tahoedonner.com/covid19.

GIVING FUND CAMPAIGN Tahoe Donner Giving Fund deserves a hearty congratulations. COVID-19 forced the philanthropic arm of Tahoe Donner to cancel their annual dinner and auction fundraiser, but they knew our community was in dire need of support and pivoted to an online giving campaign. At the time of press, the campaign was still live with a goal to raise $40,000 in one week. If you missed giving, please consider doing so at tahoedonner.com/giving-fund to support local non-profits and scholarships for local kids in need. Due to the pandemic, funding sources have dried up, though non-profit services are as important as ever.

FIRE SEASON IS HERE! Please be diligent in keeping our community safe. The district-wide fire ban in place includes wood fires, charcoal barbecues and more. Having firsthand experience of evacuating the city of Healdsburg due to the Kinkade Fire during my tenure there, it’s important to know your evacuation routes, have a packed go-bag and create a plan to reunite in case your family is separated. I hope we don’t have to witness an evacuation, but being prepared can save lives. Learn more about evacuation routes and community services at tahoedonner.com/preparedness. I look forward to connecting more with all members and creating informal ways to connect and share your feedback with other staff members and myself. We are working on developing these opportunities (Continued on p. 4)

TAKE-OUT AND OUTDOOR OPTIONS

ENSURING SAFETY WHILE SEATED

Outdoor seating like never before is available at The Lodge Restaurant & Pub this summer. The pavilion is open and available for spacious outdoor dining. In addition to seating on the deck, each table is spaced at least six feet apart and is routinely sanitized. Enjoy dinner with a view every day from 5-9PM.

We understand that dinner should be a time of relaxing and unwinding. That’s why additional measures have been enforced at The Lodge Restaurant & Pub to ensure safety for you, members, guests and staff.

The extra outdoor space on the pavilion is one that staff are particularly excited about. Christen Holland, The Lodge Restaurant & Pub Manager, notes, “It’s a whole new area. It’s a fun and casual atmosphere where members and guests can experience the normal dining room menu. We are open seven days a week for you to enjoy.” Take-out orders are also available daily from 5-9PM for those who want the experience of The Lodge on the go. Grab dinner and drinks, including notable wines and cocktails, for the whole family to enjoy as a meal for a scenic picnic hike, a spread to enjoy as the sun sets on Donner Lake or simply an easy way to enjoy your favorite foods right at home. Appetizers, entrees, desserts and drinks are available to pick up.

THE DISH ON YOUR FAVORITE DISHES The summer season brings a variety of fresh foods to the table this month. It can be hard to decide which delectable options to choose at The Lodge, so we’ve offered our favorites. As a simple but filling option, the heirloom tomato & fresh mozzarella salad is one to beat, especially with the fresh tastes you can’t find anywhere else the rest of the season. Holland notes, “You not only get to enjoy these beautiful sweet and fresh heirloom tomatoes available a couple months out of the whole year, but 25-year-old aged balsamic is hard to get your hands on.” Coated to perfection with fresh basil, extra-virgin olive oil and aged balsamic vinegar, this is a summer staple. For the kids, nothing makes a summer evening quite like an ice cream sandwich. The Lodge has created housemade ice cream sandwiches with both mint chocolate chip and vanilla ice cream. Layered between two decadent brown sugar cookies, this sweet treat is sure to make any child (or grown-up!) smile. Steal of the summer: Your favorite wines are available at The Lodge, and, this summer, all bottles are now 20% off. Savor our award-winning wine list for a fraction of the price. Enjoy your favorite foods, drinks and atmosphere at The Lodge Restaurant & Pub. To learn more and find the most up-to-date information, visit tahoedonner.com/thelodge.

THE REPORT

MEET THE NEW BOARD MEMBERS know if I could commit to the hours. When he passed away in 2012, I decided I would run. It’s good to bring that family perspective to the board, since the majority of Tahoe Donner owners are families, then and still today.” Courtney currently holds the title of secretary and is ready to make a difference once again. Working with the new general manager and creating a board that is collegial will create the necessary driving force to bridge the divisions in the community in which we live, play and vacation. Courtney is excited to revive positive leadership, rebuild community connection and refocus Tahoe Donner’s future for generations to come.

COURTNEY MURRELL

A California native, Courtney Murrell grew up in the East Bay, spending winters skiing with her family around Tahoe, which quickly fostered their interest in the area. From an early age, she found love in sports, ski racing throughout her childhood and, while in college, winning NCAA titles and qualifying for the US Diving National team for springboard and platform diving as she achieved her undergraduate degree at Brigham Young University. Upon graduating, Courtney worked in Silicon Valley and received her graduate degree at San Jose State University in exercise physiology. Her experience in the health field, including at Tahoe Forest Hospital, inspired connection and outdoor recreation. A manager of trade shows and events, her marketing background, communication skills, energy and enthusiasm make her a voice of the people. She has been involved at Tahoe Donner through camps, aquatics activities and countless volunteer positions in addition to 15 years as a fitness instructor at Trout Creek Recreation Center. Though she and her husband are avid backpack travelers, they have found a home at Tahoe Donner for 17 years and have raised their son and daughter in Truckee. Having already served on the Board of Directors from 2013 to 2016, she is no stranger to improving the association. Her multigenerational connection to this community provides the foundation and passion to revitalize Tahoe Donner. When her parents built their Tahoe Donner home in 1995, they became heavily involved in their community, and Courtney has committed to do the same. “In 2010, my father, Chair of the General Plan Committee at the time, asked if I would run for the board. He said it was important for someone with children on the board for representation. At the time, I had young kids and didn’t

When asked of her favorite aspect of Tahoe Donner, she looked to her children for inspiration. “I asked my kids this question during my campaign because I was curious, my son being 16 and my daughter being 12. My daughter summed it up by saying she felt connected to her neighborhood where people know your name. My son said he loved living in a place where he could ‘do it all.’ You could do so many things, or you could do nothing, and it’s all good. We are all here to hold a piece of this mountain lifestyle. We are all here for the same reason.”

like, so the time that we do have to share with them here in Tahoe Donner skiing, hiking, playing golf or enjoying the sunset at Donner Lake is incredibly important.”

STEVE MAHONEY

Steve Mahoney grew up in Boston, Massachusetts, the middle child of seven children. He vividly recalls one day as a teenager shoveling snow for several hours to clear a street parking space for his father, a Boston police detective. “While outdoors, I experienced at least three forms of precipitation. I was cold, wet and tired of New England winter weather. When I went inside, the Rose Bowl Parade was on television; the sun was shining, the palm trees were swaying and people were smiling. I made a promise to myself at that point that I would someday live in California." Twenty-five years ago, a job transfer from Chicago to San Francisco enabled him to make good on that promise. He has always been a fan of mountain living, having gone to college in Vermont in a small town nestled alongside the Green Mountains. Steve and his wife Carole were introduced to Tahoe Donner by former Board President Jeff Bonzon, who was a work colleague. “Jeff and Carolyn are responsible for us being here. We had dinner with them one evening. When we mentioned how we were interested in purchasing a vacation home in the Sierra, they told us of this wonderful place called Tahoe Donner. We purchased our first home here in 2002 with another family from Mill Valley, and we built our own home in 2014.” Like many others, they were attracted by the breadth and quality of the amenities here. In January of this year, Steve, Carole and their West Highland Terrier Riley moved to Tahoe Donner full-time after 25 years in Marin County. “The transition to full-time ownership has been remarkably easy. Carole and I have been overwhelmed by the warm welcome we received from new friends and neighbors.” Steve retired in late 2018 after a 40-year career in banking. One of his retirement goals was to become more active in local volunteer activities. “During my career, I was traveling on client business 70-80% of the time. I was not able to commit to serving my community given the demands of my job. With retirement, Tahoe Donner has given me that opportunity.” He joined the association’s Finance Committee in January 2019 and became vice chairman earlier this year. Steve and Carole have two adult children, a daughter Erin and a son Brendan, and a daughter-in-law Aly, all of whom live in New York City. “We don’t get to spend as much time with them as we would

He looks forward to working with the other board members, new General Manager David Mickaelian and the talented staff to make Tahoe Donner an even better place to live, work and play. During his time on the board, he is particularly interested in strengthening the association’s longer-term planning efforts. “Next year, Tahoe Donner will celebrate its 50th birthday. I want to make sure that our association’s ability – socially, financially and amenity-wise – to deliver outstanding member service and member enjoyment is as strong in the future as it has been in the past.” Lic. # 440341

Reducing

Wildfire Threat In Tahoe Donner

By ALI DICKSON

TAHOE DONNER IS A FIREWISE COMMUNITY® Tahoe Donner Association received Firewise Community® recognition in 2010 and has retained the distinction annually since then, making it the first eastern Nevada community to do so. In 2017, Tahoe Donner was awarded Firewise Community® of the year. Tahoe Donner Forestry Department continues to provide educational outreach and physical vegetation management services that enable homeowners to achieve and maintain a Firewise condition around their homes. Wildfire prevention is a way of life for Tahoe Donner homeowners, and the area’s healthy forests are an example of the legacy these efforts will leave for generations to come.

FOREST HEALTH + FIRE HAZARD MITIGATION IN TAHOE DONNER Tahoe Donner is dedicated to maintaining a healthy forest within the association while minimizing the threat of forest fires. Of the roughly 7,670 acres within Tahoe Donner, the association owns 5,080 acres while the other 2,622 acres are comprised of private properties, utility properties and public roads. Registered Professional Forester (RPF) Bill Houdyschell and his team at Tahoe Donner are nationally regarded as leaders in their field and manage a variety of land-management and fire-prevention programs for the association and its property owners. The Tahoe Donner Forestry Department works to create a healthy forest on the common areas of Tahoe Donner. This is done by: • Creating and maintaining fuel reduction zones in strategic areas • Removing brush and planting trees to establish a forest on the landscape • Masticating (mowing) brush from around trees to increase the growth of the forest and changing the arrangement of fuels and removing ladder fuels, which decreases the vertical continuity that allows fire to spread up into tree crowns • Creating a mosaic of practices to lessen visual disruption and encourage the propagation of wildlife species • Thinning dense forest stands through commercial logging operations or by hand crews • Maintaining the seasonal road system in the western portion of Tahoe Donner to lessen erosion and allow access for firefighting crews

FIRE MITIGATION PROGRAMS AVAILABLE TO HOMEOWNERS DEFENSIBLE SPACE INSPECTION PROGRAM The Forestry Department helps homeowners bring their properties into compliance with state, local and association fire-safety standards to keep Tahoe Donner safe from wildfires. The program consists of 6 inspection cycles, and 1,000 properties are inspected each year.

DEAD TREE PROGRAM

This program includes the removal of about 730 trees from association grounds annually.

CHIPPING PROGRAM

Chipping includes the removal of over 900 tons of green waste per year.

EXPERT CONSULTATIONS

Consultations on forest health and fire hazard mitigation are available to homeowners. Consultations result in an increase of 1,696 properties inspected per year in addition to the 1,000 inspected as part of the defensible space program. Learn more and request a consultation by visiting tahoedonner.com/fire-safety.

LOCAL FIRE PROTECTION Tahoe Donner exists within the Truckee Fire Protection District, which is comprised of specialists in various areas of emergency, including structural firefighting, airport rescue firefighting, hazardous material responding and wildland firefighting.

REGULATIONS FOR FIRE HAZARD MITIGATION

In 2019, Truckee Fire Protection District adopted several new Nevada County ordinances to increase fire hazard mitigation in the area, including: • Nevada County Ordinance 02-2019 – Defensible space compliance at the time of property sale transactions • Nevada County Ordinance 03-2019 – Open burning and recreational fire ban that bans the use of wood-burning and charcoal fires and barbecues during high fire season and conditions Learn more about the Truckee Fire Protection District at truckeefire.org.

GOLF COURSE FUEL REDUCTION This summer, the Forestry Department is implementing a longawaited fuel reduction project to improve the firebreak at Tahoe Donner Golf Course. This project is made possible through the board of director’s approval of management’s proposed project last fall during the budget process. They approved an additional $155,000 of operating funds toward the project. Combined with other defensible space work in the common area at the golf course, the total project cost is $200,000. Forestry staff worked hard this spring and early summer to secure unbudgeted revenue from the sale of removed timber in order to offset some project costs. The Golf Course Defensible Space Project is not a typical logging or fuel reduction project. Because of this, it presents unique challenges that require special equipment and methods to protect the golf course while maintaining sensitivity to environmental concerns and cultural sites. Necessary resources and golf course protection measures began last fall and early winter during initial project implementation. Preparatory field work includes: • Identifying trees to be removed • Creating necessary fuel modifications • Securing equipment needs Forest health and fuel reduction projects on Tahoe Donner’s golf course parcels have been difficult to complete in the past due to conflict with golf operations and membership golf play. Scheduled golf course closure for the green’s replacement and repair and improvement projects this summer presented the opportunity to complete defensible space work on this area, which has not been accessible or managed for several years. The scope of work includes forest thinning and fuels reduction on over 40 acres of common area located within the boundary of the golf course. This will manage the golf course parcels as true fuel breaks and create safe zones for residents to utilize during wildfire emergencies by removing large trees and removing or modifying ground fuels.

Resources We created a new resource for Tahoe Donner’s progressive defensible space and forestry program that can help educate your insurance company if you are having difficulty maintaining or securing a homeowners insurance policy. Download today at tahoedonner.com/preparedness.

THE REPORT

SUSTAINING THE RESIDENTIAL NATURE OF TAHOE DONNER By ANNIE ROSENFELD, Director of Risk Management and Real Property The events of the last four months have no doubt changed our lives for near-term and future plans. We are seeing members’ use of their homes change from second homes to their primary home, at least for the duration of the summer months while employers and schools make decisions for the fall and winter. These short- and possibly long-term changes in peoples’ lives as they make personal decisions to move from an urban life to a rural life have implications to the small-town character of Truckee and Tahoe Donner Association. Tahoe Donner makes up over half of the Town of Truckee’s more than 12,200 residential units. The greatest growth in full-time residential use will be seen in Tahoe Donner, and for that reason, management and other agencies are closely monitoring full-time resident migration. With the influx of fulltime property use comes an adjustment for everyone. For those who have enjoyed full-time residency, we should welcome our neighbors with open arms and help them assimilate into the lifestyle and mountain town culture that we value and cherish. For new full-time or temporary full-time residents, we have these tips and tools for you:

EDUCATE YOURSELF ON MOUNTAIN LIVING

There is a difference between visiting your second home and living full-time in the mountains. The unique and daily challenge at times is a new adventure for many. Be prepared for changing conditions, and give yourself extra time to get around. It takes a lot longer to get out of Euer Valley with your 5- and 7-year-old than you would

think. You shouldn’t use power tools on hot, windy days, and should definitely never use them on red flag days due to fire danger. Be prepared to evacuate your home should a wildfire threaten the community, and know where you need to go.

Donner rules. Please share this information with property managers as well.

GET TO KNOW YOUR NEIGHBOR

Exchange phone numbers and emails so that you can establish a relationship with your neighbors. You never know when a pipe may break while you are away or a bear may break through a garage door. Greet neighbors in the grocery store (even with a face covering on) and catch up on the latest location of wildflowers, the bobcat that walked by the back door or the best place to grab a burger these days.

EDUCATE GUESTS + TENANTS

When you are not home and have guests using your property, know that, at times, they don’t treat it as you do and are unaware of impacts to neighbors and the community. Loud parties, lights on past 10PM, piles of trash, trash spills and cars spilling out of the driveways into streets and neighboring driveways regularly occur; these are all violations of Tahoe Donner rules. Similarly, help your invitees know emergency evacuation routes and other health and safety information. Do your part to educate and communicate with guests about Tahoe

ADDRESS NEIGHBORING CONCERNS

There are times when your neighbor’s activities or behaviors appear contrary to Tahoe Donner Association’s rules and regulations. These include situations like trash spills and being loud after 10PM. Tahoe Donner has staff in the Architectural Standards Office who receive complaints in addition to an after-hours call service available to facilitate complaints, educate on policies and enforce rules. Tahoe Donner staff follow the established Covenants Rules and Procedures for complaints. The procedures to do so are through an observe-and-document process. Staff do not intervene in a situation to deescalate or stop a violation in person; instead, they seek voluntary compliance. When intervention is needed by the resident on serious matters, Truckee Police Department and/or Truckee Fire Protection District should be requested for response. For instance, when a complaint is submitted about a potential out-of-control fire at a residence, staff contact 911 to report. Conversely, if there is a trash spill complaint, staff contact the waste management company who then responds, cleans up and bills the owner.

The established process for handling the complaints is defined in the Covenant Rules and Procedures to allow for due process to both the complainant and the respondent (owner of the property who is being complained about). This process looks like: • Receipt confirmation of the complaint • Duties staff have to both the complainant and respondent • Initial inspection and contact • Notice of noncompliance • A possible sufficiency review by a committee member and hearing in front of the Covenants Committee Timeliness of making a complaint on a possible rule violation is important. Part of rule enforcement with members and others includes articulating that there is an avenue to address issues. These issues are addressed through Covenants Committee hearings, where both the complainant and respondent can be heard. The committee reviews the incident and any evidence provided, including video, photos and documents; considers the testimony, which can be in the form of written, teleconference or in-person sharing; and deliberates the verdict. If the committee finds a violation did occur, depending on the severity of the violation(s), they have the authority to fine and consider recommending membership amenity rights suspension and/or abridgment.

TAHOE DONNER AWARDED RESOURCE GRANTS

Tahoe Donner’s portion of this grant—$380,550—will target 177 acres for the purpose of dead tree removal. This manner of fuel reduction is crucial to slowing down fire in zones already designated to reduce spread. The action from this grant award will allow firefighting efforts to more quickly come into place and reduce the potential of wildfire spread reaching Tahoe Donner. !

The coronavirus pandemic has put a financial strain on many lives, but our community was awarded with good news earlier this year concerning two major projects. Tahoe Donner has been awarded two multi-year grants to improve the association through fuels reduction and restoration projects. Staff have strategically reviewed and identified projects that are grant-ready in both departments, and these funds will provide the resources necessary to achieve forest land management objectives through dead tree removal and the start of the Euer Valley Restoration (EVR) Phase 1 Project, otherwise known as the Coyote Crossing and West Euer Valley trail repair, replacement and improvement project. !

The State Water Resources Control Board for the 2020 Clean Water Act Grant Program approved a partnership funding proposal submitted by the Truckee River Watershed Council and Tahoe Donner for the area known as Coyote Crossing and West Euer Valley Meadow Trail Crossing. Tahoe Donner members who have hiked, biked or skied through the western area of Euer Valley may be familiar with this area, which is known for extraordinary mountain views, streams and wildlife.

Tahoe Donner’s accepted proposal encompassed the removal of traffic from this wetland meadow in order for restoration to fully progress. Restoring the creek path and reducing the sediment coming in from the banks due to years of ranching and erosion will be crucial in perpetuating this beautiful and important ecosystem.

This Euer Valley Restoration funding is contingent on the grant receipt from the United States Environmental Protection Agency, which is scheduled for August 2020. Tahoe Donner has funding match commitments of $150,000 of Replacement Reserve Funds (RRF) for soft costs, including wetland delineation and other studies this year and additional RRF in 2022 for replacement costs, as well as $25,000 of the grant funds covering TDA staff costs over the two-year project period.

This award will begin with a planning phase through the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) in 2021, and implementation will take place in 2021 and 2022. This work will be completed in addition to the already planned projects within the five-year Forest Management plan. The result of this grant creates a safer area for the Tahoe Donner community.

Grant funds will leverage both the Forestry and Trails Departments’ resources in getting more work done and either offsetting costs or adding to the “revenue stream.” The first year of both these grants lies in the study of water, cultural resources and biology. We will also get to 30% design on the EVR Phase 1 Project the first year. We would like to thank the hardworking staff, businesses and organizations that have helped Tahoe Donner to become an even greater community through the gaining of these grant awards. Even during difficult times, we are all in this together.

We’re enjoying the beautiful summer weather with league play every Thursday morning and social play on Tuesdays. While our beautiful home course is under renovation, we’re enjoying the hospitality at nearby facilities. We play nine holes on league days, alternating between historic Old Brockway Golf Course in Tahoe Vista and Ponderosa Golf Course in Truckee. On Tuesdays, we hit the links at Northstar for 9 or 18 holes.

DISTRICT-WIDE FIRE BAN SENIOR ALPINE SKI CLUB Our ski club is busy doing safe, socialdistancing outdoor activities in our stunningly beautiful Tahoe region.

THE TRUCKEE FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT IMPLEMENTED A DISTRICT-WIDE ORDINANCE TO BAN BACKYARD-TYPE CAMPFIRES DURING FIRE SEASON ON JUNE 15, 2020

As we’ve all seen, the fire danger in California has continued to increase, and the Truckee area is no exception. California has seen 9 of the 20 most destructive fires in state history just in the last 5 years. Each year, the Truckee Fire Protection District responds to unattended or improperly extinguished residential campfires that escape the fire ring and start a wildfire. If this happens on a windy day, it can be devastating to our community.

CAUSES OF EXTREME FIRE DANGER

Our Eagle Falls hike in June treated us to awesome views of Emerald Bay and the crashing torrents of Eagle Falls. Eighteen of our club members enjoyed a beautiful thirty-two-mile round-trip bike ride from Squaw Valley along our Truckee River to Tahoe City, then continuing along our world-renowned Lake Tahoe to Sugar Pine Point State Park for a BYO lunch/ picnic. Our skiers showed they have ability to multi-sport and are really talented riders!

Gas campfires

Significant drought

Gas portable fire pits

Increased human presence

Gas BBQs

Visitors who don’t understand the danger

Pellet-burning devices

Escaped campfires

WHAT IS BANNED Residential campfires/bonfires that burn anything other than gas

July included two different sports showing more of our skiers’ athletic skills. Our group participated in a gorgeous kayak on Lake Tahoe early in the month and then rallied for a twilight golf event at Brockway and a sumptuous dinner at Spindleshanks later in July. Please visit our website at tdski.com for club information and details for upcoming events throughout the year. New skiing and social membership signups are available on our website starting November 1 for the 2020/21 season. Contact one of the board members or click on the tab to sign up if you would like to join our club sooner for our summer activities or need more information. We are always welcoming enthusiastic new members who enjoy skiing, boarding and other outdoor adventures our region has to offer.

WHAT IS ALLOWED

BBQs that burn solid fuel (like charcoal briquettes, wood or lump charcoal)* Big Green Egg BBQs Briquette fuel-based smokers Wood shavings that are generally added for flavor to smokers and gas grills (like applewood and others)

Wood pellet fuel-based BBQs and smokers that are well contained — all particles must be fully consumed to ash prior to disposal

WHAT IS EXEMPT Designated + private campgrounds Note: Tahoe Donner Campground does not allow wood/charcoal fires while the Truckee Fire Ban is in place

Day-use picnic areas Community picnic areas with a valid permit Outdoor special event commercial cooking with a valid permit

DO YOUR PART THIS FIRE SEASON TO HELP MITIGATE THE FIRE DANGER IN OUR COMMUNITY. REPORT ILLEGAL FIRES BY CALLING 911. *The district will not issue briquette BBQ permits to individual residences. THE REPORT

GOLF COURSE + NATURE LOOP TRAIL UPDATES While many amenities are open this summer, others are in the heart of construction to enjoy for future summers to come. Tahoe Donner Golf Course and Nature Loop Trail are our two main projects for this year, and both are on pace to be completed by the fall of 2020.

GOLF COURSE

NATURE LOOP TRAIL

The Tahoe Donner Golf Repair + Replacement Project is well underway. Tree removal has continued to allow space for further renovations and improve playability. At the moment, the biggest project at hand concerns the new greens, tee boxes and fairway improvements. Crews are carefully preparing the course for new sod that is arriving in phases. Approximately four greens are being completed at once with the associated fairway and tee box improvements happening concurrently. After the new sod has been transplanted, it takes at least 10-12 weeks before the turf can sustain traffic.

Construction for the Nature Loop Trail Repair + Replacement Project began in mid-July. Crews will be working to repair and open the north side of the loop (along Northwoods Boulevard) as fast as possible. The scope of the Nature Loop Trail repair includes the complete replacement of the bridge and boardwalk as well as the installation of numerous trail construction features used to get trail-goers out of the mud and provide safer travel.

Walking on the transplanted course grasses in this early stage is extremely harmful. High-contact activities like running, playing football or letting your dog roam cause great permanent damage that may result in an additional closure and association money to fix. Even if you do not see heavy equipment or crews on the site, please be aware that the golf course is closed to all users for any reason. Please educate others who live in your home, guests and renters to avoid being on the course at this time. It is anticipated that the course will be closed for the entire season and ready for play in spring 2021. For those who are itching to get on the greens again, partnerships have been made with area golf courses to provide special discounts when you show your Tahoe Donner member ID. Tahoe Donner Driving Range is also open to practice your swing. To learn more, visit tahoedonner.com/golf.

As with the golf course, we urge you to stay out of the construction zone and obey all closures throughout the duration of this trail project. Through-passage on the trail will not be possible while construction is occurring. These precautions are for the safety of trail users, construction crews and further protection of the sensitive wetland environment the loop encompasses. Many hazards will exist if you venture on the trail and surrounding area, and trespassing is prohibited. This project is anticipated to last through October 2020. We look forward to seeing you on the Nature Loop Trail soon. For trails to explore and enjoy in the meantime this summer, visit the trails page at tahoedonner.com/trails.

FEATURE

FUEL YOUR SUMMER AT ALDER CREEK CAFE WITH DELICIOUS LUNCH OPTIONS AVAILABLE DAILY STARTING AT 11:30AM, YOUR ADVENTURE BEGINS AND ENDS IN GOOD TASTE WITH SCENIC OUTDOOR DINING AT ALDER CREEK ADVENTURE CENTER By ALI DICKSON

ALDER CREEK OFFERINGS The menu this season combines fresh and exciting summer cravings in addition to the staples you know and love. Your favorite go-to meals that are back include:

TURKEY MELT

BLACK BEAN + BEET VEGGIE BURGER

ROASTED BEET + BURRATA SALAD

KATSU CHICKEN SANDWICH

For a lunch you don’t want to miss, the new Asian-style chopped salad includes freshly chopped romaine lettuce, Napa cabbage, red cabbage, carrots and red peppers. Tossed in an enticing housemade miso ginger dressing, this salad is topped to perfection with peanuts, green onions, toasted sesame seeds and cilantro. If the description isn’t tantalizing enough, Chef David Smith gives this dish two thumbs up.

CAFE CULTURE Alder Creek Cafe stands as more than a place to eat – it’s a place to connect. Even in a time of social distancing, it’s the sort of place a trail runner can pass by and wave hello to a friend on the deck. Here, the food is as welcoming as the friendly faces. Smith says, “I like to think of Alder Creek Cafe as a gathering place for our community. It has a neighborhood ‘Cheers’ feel to it while embodying much of what we love about TD and the area. The access to trails right outside the door is top-notch. Whether it be mountain biking, hiking or cross country skiing, the access to terrain is incredible. “During my time at Alder Creek Cafe, Tahoe Donner has let me cook the type of food and cuisine that I enjoy. The use of fresh, high-quality ingredients translates into the fresh and healthy style of food that we like to make. Also, the ability to create a dinner series like Edi-Bōl allows me to play with the flavors I enjoy as a chef and, in turn, let our community experience them too.” For more information on menus, hours and more, visit tahoedonner.com/aldercreekcafe.

Chef David Smith, creator of all things good at Alder Creek Cafe, shares, “It’s exciting to put a twist on a different dish each week, to figure out how to deconstruct that item and rebuild it into a bowl so that it eats and has a similar feel to the original idea. It also is a great way to showcase a lot of the flavors that are exciting for me as a chef.” A limited menu will be offered in addition to each week’s featured bowl, including delicious burgers, salads, grilled cheeses and chicken tenders. THE REPORT

BRIEFS STAFF APPRECIATION FUND RESULTS Our heartfelt thanks go out to all Tahoe Donner Staff Appreciation Fund donors as we concluded this fundraising campaign to provide a short-term financial gift as an expression of homeowners’ appreciation to full- and part-time staff who were impacted by the COVID-19 crisis. The generosity of the Tahoe Donner community far surpassed even the most optimistic expectations. Along with your donations, there came a flood of messages expressing your high regard and deep appreciation for the outstanding service of the staff who help make Tahoe Donner such a wonderful place to live, visit and play. As the short term of this fundraising effort concludes, we want to report to you the following: • Total funds raised to date: $44,970 from 249 donors • GoFundMe transfer, bank and other fees: $1,426 • Funds distributed to staff to date: $43,380 • The remaining $164 will be used to keep the bank account open until all checks have cleared Eligibility was based on number of hours worked during the past year. Of the 240 staff who were eligible for funds, 106 opted in to receive them. Those who did not opt in generously left more funds for those with greater need. On behalf of our homeowner fundraising group, our heartfelt appreciation goes out to everyone who donated, both with their funds and with their expressions of gratitude to staff. This has been an incredibly uplifting experience in the midst of trying times. It truly defines the best of Tahoe Donner. A note from staff: Thank you to all who gave to support our team. An additional huge, heartfelt thank you goes to the small group of members who coordinated this grassroots effort, including Jim Beckmeyer, Suzanne Boyette, Jim and Marie Colbert,

Michael Fajans, Nan Meek, Cathy Ravano and Michael Sullivan.

EQUESTRIAN SAFETY While playing at and near Equestrian Center, please remember: • Walk your bikes when on Equestrian Grounds. • Please do not feed any of the horses, as it can make them sick. Nuts, bread, lettuce and other snacks for humans are not healthy for horses. • Equestrian Center is not a park or playground. Do not leave children unattended at any time.

CHIPPING PROGRAM Tahoe Donner's chipping program is working their way through the neighborhood but did have a delay with one of the trucks becoming inoperable. Chipping crews are coming through to chip your materials on a rotating basis. Permits are not required. Make sure to follow the stacking and material directions found at tahoedonner.com/chipping.

STR ORDER CHANGE At the time of press, the Town of Truckee has rescinded the local short-term rental ban to align with the State’s recommended guidance for reopening industries safely. Short-term rentals are allowed for tourism. If you do rent your home, please educate your visitors and property managers on Tahoe Donner COVID-19 restrictions and policies. For industry guidelines for lodging during COVID-19, visit tahoedonner.com/str.

Tahoe Donner properties are subject to Truckee Fire Protection District Ordinances 03-2019 which bans or regulate wood and charcoal fires, including fireplaces and barbecues, during periods designated by Truckee Fire Protection District. (See truckeefire.org). A violation of this any such ordinance shall also constitute a Tahoe Donner covenants violation.

4.21 FIRE PREVENTION AND SAFETY

a. Fire Safety. Owners are required to be responsible for and maintain their lots (both improved and unimproved) in a fire-safe condition at all times. C&R Article VII, Section 2. The association will inspect lots according to an established inspection cycle and/or upon request or complaint. Insurance companies and other agency inspectors may require greater distances of defensible space around structures. Minimum standards and requirements of fire-safe conditions are set forth: i Vegetation Removal. No person may remove or cut any tree greater than 4" in diameter (measured three feet above the ground) without first obtaining a permit from the TDA Forestry Department. For any tree(s) removed from the property, the maximum stump height shall be as low as practical, but maximum stump height shall not exceed 2" for trees less than 12" in diameter, and 12" for trees greater than 12" in diameter. No heavy equipment may be used to remove brush

without first obtaining a permit from the TDA Forestry Department. C&Rs Article VIII, Section 1(a) (xi). ii Roofs Free of Dead Vegetation. Property owners are responsible to maintain all roofs, of any structure, keeping them free of leaves, needles, or other dead vegetative growth. iii Pine Needles on the Ground. Pine needles must be collected and removed within 10' of any structure or deck. On the rest of the property the pine needles will not be allowed to build up to more than 2" in depth. iv 10-foot Clearance from Chimney, Stovepipe, Roofs and Eaves. Property

owners are responsible to remove any portion of any tree which extends within 10' of the outlet of any chimney or stovepipe. Any tree branch extending horizontally and vertically towards the structure within 10' of roofs shall be removed.
