This edition of Tahoe Donner News introduces an important new resource for homeowners; the Tahoe Donner Emergency Evacuation and Preparedness Guide. This guide is meant to act as a building block for your family emergency preparedness efforts and is part of Tahoe Donner’s Emergency Action Plan. For the last several months, Tahoe Donner risk management staff, experienced emergency response TDA members, volunteers and local emergency response management leaders collaborated to develop this guide for all Tahoe Donner homeowners, renters and visiting guests. The portable guide is designed to address emergency preparation, communication, and evacuation in one simplified location. The information contained within the guide may help save you and your family’s life in an emergency.
• Fire danger level signs located in three primary locations in Tahoe Donner and smaller danger level signs at the amenities.
The new TDA Emergency Evacuation and Preparedness Guide dovetails on the robust member education and communication emergency preparedness plan which rolled
• Emergency preparedness and resources TDA webpage tahoedonner.com/preparedness.
• Emergency preparedness reminder banners. • TDA Evacuation Map (available digitally at tahoedonner.com/preparedness and in hardcopy at amenities). It’s never too soon to prepare, plan and ready your home and family for an emergency. Emergency preparedness begins with you and remains the responsibility of all members of the community. Start now by: • Being active in creating proper defensible space around your property. • Researching and implementing home hardening measures to help your home survive in the event of a fire. • Engaging in emergency preparedness and planning with your family and community. Make it a fun and often visited activity.

WE RECYCLE
By ANNIE ROSENFELD, Tahoe Donner Director of Risk and Real Property

TAHOEDONNER.COM/SUBSCRIBE
Tahoe Donner is committed to recycling as much waste as possible. Through efforts over the years, Tahoe Donner departments— including food and beverage and the Downhill Ski Resort—have reduced their solid waste and disposal fees through concerted efforts to separate trash from recyclable products. Additionally, focus towards purchasing recycled products such as cups, plates, oils and more is our way of contributing to greater stewardship and sustainability goals.
WHAT TO RECYCLE?
TAHOE DONNER CONTACTS
The Town of Truckee’s Recycling Guide states the following at keeptruckeegreen.org:
MEMBER SERVICES
Your trash and recycling products are separated more cleanly now than ever before through the Eastern Regional Landfill. Thus, your efforts are not a lost cause. Take advantage of the options available to you through your annual solid waste tax bill by utilizing the recycling and additional services provided by the Town of Truckee.
RULES OF THUMB • If it can mold or get stinky, rinse it before you put it in the recycling. • Beverage containers (soda bottles, beer cans/bottles) do not need to be rinsed. • Only recycle plastics #1 and #2. • If it’s plastic and you can squish or crumple it, toss it in the trash. No plastic film products can be recycled curbside. • If it’s contaminated with food or sticky, toss it in the trash.
In Tahoe Donner, trash and recycling pick-up day is Tuesday. Blue recycling bags will be picked up every week. Place blue bags next to your garbage can to avoid any overage costs. All cardboard must be placed inside of the blue bag.
RECYCLING DO’S • Recycle right — know what goes where. • Most of us put what we believe should be recycled into the recycling and think we’re doing the right thing. In reality, knowing what belongs in recycling makes recycling more successful.
PRO TIP Be a minimalist. Shrink your “wasteberg” (the estimated 70 pounds of waste created in mining, manufacturing, packaging, etc. for every single pound of stuff we discard). Ask yourself, is there a better alternative? Can you repurpose it at home? Or purchase it second hand?
Beginning 2020, Tahoe Donner residents will have the option to have a recycling container. Residents will need to opt-in to participate in the container program at keeptruckeegreen.org. Residents can use the blue bag and/or container to suit their schedules. Rolling containers must be at the curb every other Tuesday for pickup. Animal resistant carts are available at additional cost of $60 + $12 per month.

AFFORDABLE HOUSING, STRs + LOCAL SOLUTIONS By TIFFANY CONNOLLY The lack of affordable housing for Truckee’s workforce and the growing abundance of short-term rentals (STRs) is a hotly debated topic in Truckee. Locals complain that STRs are replacing long-term rental opportunities, while some homeowners who rent out their homes as STRs argue that it is the only way they can afford a second home in the area. It is true that STRs have increased at an 81% growth rate from 2012-2018. The question that remains is – are STRs responsible for the lack of affordable housing? The Mountain Housing Council, a project of the Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation, released a year-long study designed to offer insight on the correlation, or lack thereof, between STRs and the steady disappearance of affordable housing. The white paper also investigates what other resort communities are doing to alleviate the issue. You can read the 51-page white paper at mountainhousingcouncil.org. Businesses in North Lake Tahoe and Truckee are also struggling as employers are unable to attract and retain employees due to a lack of housing. In order to be able to serve the 3 million visitors Lake Tahoe hosts every year, employers need to find a local, stable workforce. This is proving especially difficult as, according to one study, the region is about 12,000 units short in housing the required local labor force.

AFFORDABLE HOUSING SOLUTIONS LANDING The concept for Landing began in 2018 when Kai and Colin Frolich moved to Truckee to start a family and struggled to find a long-term rental home amid a sea of empty houses. To tackle this issue, they have partnered with the Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation to create an online platform that connects second homeowners with vetted and qualified renters. Flexible leasing options allow for the homeowners to utilize their homes when they want. For second homeowners whose houses sit empty for the majority of year, this is a great opportunity to earn a stable income while also helping with the housing crisis in the community they love. Learn more at uselanding.com.
HOUSING PROJECTS Coburn Crossing is going in near downtown Truckee and will consist of 5 three-story modular apartment buildings with 138 units that are deed-restricted for local ownership only. They are slated to be rented out at market rates. Residences at Jibboom proposes adding 50 workforce rental units and 32 multi-bedroom condos, 100% of which will only be available to locals. Conceived by two local Truckee residents, the project is finding barriers due to town permitting issues. The Railyard Project, also being constructed near Downtown Truckee, is a mixed-use neighborhood that plans to incorporate a multifamily housing project that will include income-restricted rental apartments.
COHOUSING COMMUNITY Truckee River Cohousing has plans to build a community along the Truckee River on West River Street with some units being zoned as affordable housing. Members have to live and work in Truckee fulltime. One-third of the units created will be offered to qualifying individuals and families at “achievable prices” while the remaining units will be offered at market rate. Learn more at truckeecohousing.com.

In your opinion, what are Tahoe Donner’s long term ‘big picture’ issues? Specifically, what do you stand for, support and believe in re: these issues?
If elected to the board, what will be your three top areas of focus?
What have you done or will you do to prepare yourself to be an effective member of the Board?
Charles C. Wu I’ve had extensive discussions with Directors Darius Brooks, Jeff Connors, Jennifer Jennings and Jeff Schwerdtfeger as well as previous Board members regarding Board Governance. Through my committee work, I’ve gotten to know most of the senior management. I was an active participant in last year’s budget process. I’ve done my own financial analysis posted on www.charlescwu.com. I also have dozens of other nonprofit and for profit Board experiences. I’m on the Finance Committee, led the ASC Task Force, participated/observed in the GovDocs, GPC and STR Task Force. I have a good working relationship with our GM.
COMMUNICATION: Develop a better Understand of homeowners using modern business practices, recognize their needs/wants to provide clarity on appropriate vision & objectives; seek ongoing inputs. True transparency. FINANCIAL: Budget, development of a 3-5 year business plan (not currently done), GM objectives, incentives & transparency, clarity for capital projects, staff growth, operational best practices. DAY TO DAY: fire safety, amenity overcrowding and utilization by members and guests, equitable set of rules for all homeowners. I will harness vacation homeowner and academic institution expertise for short term specific tasks. Volunteering builds community engagement.
I stand for a homeowner focused HOA. Tahoe Donner has shifted from serving the homeowner to growing the enterprise. We are losing our diverse family community ethos of both full time and vacation homeowners. A few years ago, there were 2-3 “Hotel Houses” - now there are at least 8-10. Our C&Rs state only “excess capacity” of our amenities should be sold to the public. We need to solve some homeowner issues with appropriate Truckee/private organization partnerships. Examples: ability to get new homeowner insurance, low-cost internet/cable access, living wages/affordable housing for staff.
Michael Sullivan My involvement with Tahoe Donner began when I was asked to form a committee to research snowmaking at our ski hill. We concluded that snowmaking was feasible, would improve member enjoyment, and would prevent significant revenue shortfalls by ensuring the ski hill can open during peak demand holidays and weekends. After that, I joined the GPC, serving as GPC chair for the last two years. Under my leadership, the GPC wrote the Association Master Plan, worked to expand Trout Creek, and began writing amenity master plans to provide strategic guidance for future amenity upkeep and upgrades.
First, we need to take care of our members. That means treating members the right way with fair rules that are equitably applied, and with up-to-date amenities, properly sized for their enjoyment. Second, we need to remain responsible stewards for forest health and regional leaders for fire safety and prevention. Additionally, we need to prepare for the challenges climate change poses for this community. Third, Tahoe Donner's prosperity must also be your prosperity. That means careful financial planning to minimize dues, while still providing our members with great amenities and great service at a great price.
Climate change poses fire safety, financial, and recreational challenges for Tahoe Donner. To keep Tahoe Donner safe, we must continue our aggressive, leading edge fire prevention programs. Our continuing investments in snowmaking at all our snow-dependent amenities provide an insurance policy against the recreational and financial risks posed by inconsistent snowfall. However, because we can expect our dry season to lengthen, we must also plan new four-season uses for our amenities to sustain this community no matter what climatic challenges it faces. If you would like to talk about these or any other issues, please email me at MBS@MichaelSullivan.win.
Jim Roth With 35 years of experience in law, finance, and real estate, I will promote fair and fiscally responsible solutions for the benefit of all Tahoe Donner owners. I have carefully studied our covenants and bylaws. I will use my legal expertise and unwavering commitment to our governing documents to ensure that any governing documents update is transparent and fair. I have immersed myself in critical Tahoe Donner issues, advocating for all owners. I have spent countless hours watching Board meetings and budget workshops and listening to Tahoe Donner members regarding issues that concern them. I will listen to you too.
Fairness: Managing Tahoe Donner for the benefit of all members, on-hill and off-hill. Protecting private property rights, property values, and the right to quiet enjoyment. Transparent and data-driven decision-making, based on member input. Affordable assessments, fair amenity fees, and reasonable fines. Amenities: Maintaining and enhancing our amenities to serve member needs and member wants. Prudently expanding our amenities to address membership growth and over-crowding. Increased Advocacy for Members on issues such as fire prevention and fire insurance; fair garbage and internet service; workable solutions for rolling waste bins; and increased cooperation with the Town of Truckee.
The biggest issue facing Tahoe Donner is how to balance competing interests and competing demands. We all want a beautiful natural setting, attractive and affordable amenities, and high-quality member service. We also want affordable annual assessments and fair amenity fees. Resolving these issues requires mutual understanding and win-win solutions. I will listen to -- and balance the interests of -- both full-time and part-time residents. Most importantly, I will serve all Tahoe Donner owners with fairness, empathy, and respect.
Nan Meek As the former president of my Bay Area primary residence HOA, I bring HOA board experience. Professionally, I’ve been an editor, business owner and manager, marketing agency founder, and corporate manager of multi-million dollar product lines. In Tahoe Donner, I am Co-Chair of the General Plan Committee (GPC), where I helped write the Association Master Plan, played a lead role designing the rigorously analytical Capital Projects Process, and improved the GPC’s member communications. I also chaired a committee to improve the Equestrian Center’s financial performance, establishing a model for improving financial performance at all our amenities.
First, I want to move our community forward. Tahoe Donner is already a proactive leader on issues like fire prevention. We need to bring that same proactive approach to all the issues and decisions our community faces. Second, I want to make sure that, even on busy weekends and holidays, you, your families, and your guests can enjoy your amenities without being crowded out. Third, I want to strengthen our diverse community by building on the values that unite us, including our love of outdoor recreation and our commitment to preserving a neighborly, family friendly quality of life.
The financial and fire safety challenges posed by climate change, the need to keep pace with technological innovation, and the long-term maintenance and improvement of our facilities are critical concerns for this community. Beyond those is a perennial issue that’s challenged our community for decades: How can we ensure that Tahoe Donner is governed with the voices of all members, including the 85% who are part-timers? As a parttimer myself, I am committed to representing the 85% while bringing all voices into our governance process. I want to hear your questions, concerns, and ideas. Email me at Nan@NanMeek.win.

TheBUILDING Path to NEW TRAILS By CHRISTINA THAYER, Trails Manager
Tahoe Donner’s trail network is designed and constructed for pedestrians, equestrians and bicyclists. To address some commonly asked questions the trails staff receives regarding the decisions for trail repair and development, we’ve put together the below process chart to highlight steps taken to plan, design and implement a trail project. Each step involves input from members, staff and the Tahoe Donner General Plan Committee’s trails and open space subcommittee.
DETERMINE A NEED OR PURPOSE The first step in trail planning is to ask, “why do we need this?” Common answers involve trail connectivity, access to a point of interest, desires from user groups, to focus travel away from areas like roads or private property, alleviate pressure on over-used trails or to fix a poor section of trail.
NECESSARY ENGINEERING/PLANS Some trails require an engineering firm’s stamp of approval on technical aspects proposed in trail planning
ALIGNMENT
COST + BUDGET
VIABILITY
We evaluate where we want the trail to go, the kind of terrain and difficulty that may be desired, and what type of recreationists will use the trail. Views and vistas are considered, as are unique terrain and points of interest. Trail connectivity ranks high in the evaluation and once an alignment is mapped, it must be further evaluated for viability.
The proposed project is evaluated based on the cost of planning, construction and longterm maintenance. The process determines if the trail fits within the needs, budget, goals and timeline outlined in our Trails Master Plan. During this phase, management, the General Plan Committee and the board of directors aim to prioritize projects as they relate to Tahoe Donner’s general plan.
The proposed trail or reroute is evaluated by a team of specialists to determine if the alignment meets California regulatory compliance. Archaeologists look for evidence of historical significance. Botanists and wildlife biologists ensure that the construction will not infringe upon any rare or endangered flora and fauna. Surveys may be necessary for floodplain, soil types or geotechnical needs.
PERMITS
CONSTRUCTION + IMPLEMENTATION
EVALUATION + LONG-TERM MAINTENANCE PLANNING
Once permits are attained and the budget is approved, the trail crew and/or contractors may begin construction. Once completed, trail signage is installed and the alignment is added to the trail map.
A trail is never really done. After opening a trail, staff evaluates usage and how the tread is faring. The trail is added to Tahoe Donner’s trail management plan and scheduled for future maintenance.
Once a trail has a formalized plan set, regulatory permits must be attained. A trail’s location and plan determines which of the jurisdictional agencies may need to approve the trail before construction begins.
THE REPORT
NATURE LOOP TRAIL
Repair and Improvement Project Goes to Permitting By ANNIE ROSENFELD, Director of Risk and Real Property As the original trail built by Dart Industries, the Nature Loop Trail is a core asset of Tahoe Donner. It is one of Tahoe Donner’s most popular family-friendly trails, due to its gentle slopes, wide and easy access and variety of experiences available within the 3-mile loop. Over the last several years, extreme winter conditions have caused portions of the trail to fail, including a boardwalk that spans over wet pond areas, and a bridge over Trout Creek. Because of these failures, half of the trail loop is closed, necessitating a large scale replacement and improvement project.
PROJECT HISTORY PLANNING + DESIGN (COMPLETED) Preliminary planning phases, permitting excluded, have been completed and funded entirely by the Tahoe Donner Association. The completed Phase I includes: geotechnical surveys, hydrologic studies and floodplain mapping, wetland delineations, wildlife inventory, land surveys and structural and civil engineering plans.
PERMITTING (SUMMER 2019) This will include regulatory agency permits. Permits that will be submitted and obtained by the applicant shall be issued by: California Department of Fish and Wildlife, Lahontan Waterboard, Army Corps of Engineers and the Town of Truckee.
CONSTRUCTION (PENDING APPROVALS. ANTICIPATED LATE FALL 2019 AND/OR 2020)
This includes the implementation of all approved construction plans. Preconstruction biological surveys will be needed as construction approaches.
The improvement project has been in the planning and design phase for two years, following a two-year process for California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) approval by Nevada County and the Town of Truckee. Due to its highly sensitive location in a wetland and within the Trout Creek 100year flood plain, the design phase required extensive surveys, engineering and complex construction plans. The board of directors approved $85,000 in Replacement Reserve Funds in February 2018 for soft costs relating to the design of the project, exclusive of project permitting. Surveys were completed during the summer of 2018 with design, repair and improvement scope and engineering completed in December 2018. The project intends to: • Address and resolve existing areas of impact with a net result of environmental improvement. • Improve and enhance water quality and quantity, wildlife and biological resources. • Avoid historic resources. • Provide a better and safer user experience. • Ensure continued access for forestry activities. The next step in the replacement and improvement project is to submit required regulatory agency permits. This includes submittals to: • Town of Truckee • California Department of Fish and Wildlife • Army Corps of Engineers • Lahontan Regional Water Quality Control Board At the April 27, 2019 board of directors meeting, the board approved the expenditure of 2019 Reserve Replacement Funds for the Nature Loop soft costs relating to
permitting, with a budget not to exceed $75,000. With this approval, staff and consultants have begun preparing permit applications for submittal. The permit process takes several months as each agency reviews the permit application, considers its completeness and reviews the submitted plans. Regulatory permit review and approval can take several months; anticipated issuance is late August to early September. Depending on the timing of permit issuance, staff anticipates returning to the board of directors to request funds to start construction in 2019 or during the 2020 budget approval process. Requests for Proposals for construction services have been circulated to qualified contractors with receipt of cost proposals this May. Construction may be possible in September through October of 2019 (weather dependent), with activities resuming in 2020 as a best-case scenario if permits are secured in late August. Fall construction would allow for Trout Creek water levels to be at its lowest, with drier dirt conditions, and will allow wetland plants to complete their flowering cycle. The most likely scenario is that permit review and issuance will occur in 2019, with all construction taking place in 2020. The trails staff applied for a grant this winter with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife to offset costs of permitting and construction and is awaiting word on the results at the time of this article’s submission. Should Tahoe Donner not be awarded a grant during this grant cycle, staff will pursue other grants when they open in June and this fall.

SENIOR ALPINE SKI CLUB What an incredible ski season we have had with over 600 inches of snow at all the major Tahoe resorts! Monday and Thursday club ski days at local resorts and TDSASC away trips to Mammoth, Heavenly and Steamboat Springs, Colorado have treated us to one of the best winters ever. With the incredible base, warm sunny days and smooth, buttery turns we continued our Thursday club ski days in April and May!! Our club elected new board members, Bill Wang and Peggy Headley at our awards banquet in March and gave a well-earned thanks to our past board members Denny Mosher and Judi Roberts who retired after putting in countless hours planning and organizing activities over the past two years. Our board members are currently busy planning summer club activities and discussing future ski trips and social events for the 2019/2020 season. Coming up in early July (as wild as it may seem) we have a club ski day planned for July 4 at Squaw Valley. On July 5 we will have a get together at the Tahoe Donner Concert on the Green. Please visit our website at tdski.com for club information and details about upcoming events throughout the year. Contact one of the board members or click on the tab to sign up if you would like to join our club or need more information. We always welcome enthusiastic new members who enjoy downhill skiing and the beautiful outdoor setting we are lucky enough to be able to enjoy!
TD 4 WHEELERS CLUB
JUNIOR GOLF CLUB
There was very little four-wheeling in the Sierras last month due to the snow, so three of our adventurous club members with lifted Jeeps decided to head down to Reno to run the very challenging Billy Bob Trail. The trio included Dean Anderson, David Gray and Don Schellenberg.
Come join the Tahoe Donner Junior Golf Club, open to players of all abilities age 17 and under. The dues for the summer are only $10, or $5 for a one-time participation. We meet at the practice putting green every Thursday at 2PM. We have games and drills for putting and chipping. At 3PM we head out to play nine holes on the Tahoe Donner Championship Golf Course. Members play with other youngsters of a similar age and ability — we want you to have fun. Membership forms are available in the Pro Shop. Sign up weekly by calling the Pro Shop at (530) 587-9440.
The Billy Bob Trail is well known among the off-roading community for its difficult rocky terrain; it’s essentially a narrow canyon riverbed filled with boulders. Our brave adventurers took nearly three hours to cover the 1.2 mile route and spent a great deal of time walking the trail to strategize the best lines over the obstacles. It took expert spotting to stay on the right path, and even then, the Jeeps ended up getting stuck on boulders and in ruts, which is why you take multiple vehicles and recovery gear. The team spent a lot of time moving smaller rocks into depressions so that the vehicles could get through. We’re happy to report that they conquered Billy Bob without injury or vehicle damage – well done!
We always need parent volunteers to drive golf carts on the course. You do not need to know anything about golf! For the younger players, we like to have one parent for every two players. Players walk (run) down the fairways to their respective shots. After putting on the greens, the parent ferries the golfers to the next tee area via a golf cart. Other dates to remember: Build, and eat, your own Sundae before playing at the Free Ice Cream Social on July 11. The Annual TDJGC Championship Tournament takes place on August 8.
While a few of our members get very excited about rock crawling, most of our runs are far tamer – and the club website and our pre-run information emails let you know what you’re likely to encounter. Check out td4wheelers.org for information and consider joining us on any run that fits your interests – you’ll have a great time!
For questions email, Russ and Jean Lai, at rslai@comcast.net, or call (530) 582-0673.
Thanks to Don Schellenberg for the trail report. The photo is Dean Anderson’s rig on the Billy Bob Trail.
We are happy to be golfing locally again! The season began with our tee-off breakfast on May 23 and we have been getting in some social rounds of golf at Old Brockway and Ponderosa. We are acquainting ourselves with the 2019 USGA rule changes and looking forward to a beautiful summer in Tahoe Donner.
NEW! LIMITED ABILITES PERSONS’ GOLF CLUB On April 27, 2019, the Tahoe Donner Board of Directors approved a request made by Tahoe Donner member Mike Srago, with the help of Denise Rebar, to organize a golf club for golfers with physical challenges. The purpose of the club is to provide opportunities for those who enjoy playing golf but no longer play because of limitations due to age or illness. The club will welcome both men and women participants.
Discounted greens fees of $15 are available to Junior Golf Club members on day of play. Upon golf course opening, parents enjoy golfer’s early Happy Hour at The Lodge Restaurant & Pub. On play days, you will also be entitled to a 20% discount on food for the entire family at The Lodge.
The first step in establishing the club is to identify those who are interested in being part of this group and who would be willing to identify club officers and develop by-laws. The officers will then collaborate with the head of golf operations and the course manager to identify the rules and regulations for this group. If you or someone you know would be interested in helping, please contact Mike Srago via email at msrago@comcast.net.
WOMEN’S 9-HOLERS GOLF CLUB
We have a great group of golfers signed up to play this year. Thanks to an excellent response to our March membership drive, our roster is full for 2019. If you have questions about our club please contact our president, Shellie Poplin, at shelliepoplin@gmail.com.

GIVING FUND
FOUNDING PARTNER
THE TRUCKEE DONNER LAND TRUST, one of the environment-focused grantees in 2018, has been working with landowners, federal, state and local governments, and the public in negotiating land acquisitions, easement and land exchanges since 1990. One of their projects involves the Donner Lake Rim Trail, of which, two sections lie within Tahoe Donner. One connects Glacier Way to the Castle Valley Trailhead on Donner Summit and the other connects Glacier Way Trailhead to Northwoods Blvd. Our grant funds a trail information kiosk.
Want to Walk or Ride to Reno? Take THE TAHOE-PYRAMID TRAIL. According to Janet Phillips, President of Tahoe-Pyramid Trail, "The funds provided by the Giving Fund are helping us finish the last, and most difficult, section of trail to connect Truckee to Reno along the Truckee River. The last half-mile is an elevated boardwalk near Floriston. Thank you for helping us match a government grant to get this 5-year project completed.” Funds for these grants were garnered through the 2018 Giving Fund Dinner and Silent Auction. See you on the trails!
The Tahoe Donner Giving Fund is chartered by the TD Board of Directors. All contributions are voluntary tax-deductible gifts from TD members and friends. The Giving Fund is administered through the Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation. For more information on the Giving Fund or to make a contribution, visit our web page at tahoedonner.com/giving-fund. Contact tdgf@tahoedonner.com with questions or to volunteer for the committee. Thank you to our founding partner, Elements Mountain Company, for their continued support.

FRESH
Shrimp Ceviche From Alder Creek Cafe to Your Kitchen By CHEF DAVID SMITH
This make-ahead recipe is a great appetizer on a warm summer night. Prepare ceviche a day or two before you intend to serve. It’s perfect for an evening with friends or as a light addition at a potluck. Pairs well with a cold beer or margarita.
DAVID SMITH
You can find ceviche on the banquet menu offered at Alder Creek Cafe. Come in and try our lunch menu items, including house marinated chicken or tri-tip street tacos, avocado toast and more. We are open Sunday-Friday from 11:30AM-2:30PM and Saturdays from 11:30AM-4PM. On Thursday evenings we are open from 5-8PM for our popular Edi-Bōl dinner series.
INGREDIENTS
PREPARATION
1 lb. thawed shrimp, cleaned with shell and tail removed 3 limes 3 lemons 2 oranges 1 jalapeño, seeded and finely diced 1 small red onion, finely diced 1 bunch cilantro 1 tsp. sea salt 1/2 pint cherry tomatoes
To begin, fine dice shrimp and place in a strainer. Once liquid has drained, place the diced shrimp in a stainless steel bowl and juice the lemons, limes and oranges over the shrimp. Combine diced red onion and seeded diced jalapeño (use less if you don’t like spice) into the bowl and add salt. Mix and cover with plastic wrap so all the shrimp is submerged in the liquid. Refrigerate for 24-48 hours. To serve, add fresh chopped cilantro and halved cherry tomatoes. Taste and add seasoning if needed. Mix well and serve chilled with your favorite chips and hot sauce. Serves 6-8 people.

TAHOE DONNER SKIERS WIN BIG AT THE NASTAR NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
TIFFANY CONNOLLY LEAD COPYWRITER Tiffany is an exceptionally quick learner with a get-it-done attitude and the ability to focus in chaotic environments. She has quickly transitioned from the “newby” to an MVP within Tahoe Donner and the marketing team and has played a key role in various key organization’s projects. She has gone above and beyond what has been requested of her. Tiffany’s dedication and hardworking attitude are appreciated very much!
Four of our Tahoe Donner racers participated in the 2019 NASTAR National Championships at Squaw Valley April 3-7. Barbara McCabe, Charlene Braga, Debi Phelps and Jeff McCabe are all National Champions in their respective divisions. Based on their standings in the GS and slalom races, they all earned the opportunity to participate in the final race—the Race of Champions. Barbara McCabe was also honored with the Pauline’s Cup for being the fastest female senior racer in the event. The National Championship attracts racers from across the country, so the accomplishments of our Tahoe Donner racers are indeed impressive.
PARVO IN THE STATE PARK A bay area puppy, infected with Parvo, visited Donner State Park recently, opening up the possibility of contamination. Puppies who have not yet finished their vaccination series are at the greatest risk of contracting Parvo. Please check in with the Tahoe Donner kiosk at Beach Club Marina before entering the park through the access gate. Dogs are required to be on a leash at all times while on Tahoe Donner property. Authorities are enforcing leash laws at the state park.

The Tahoe Donner Forestry Department may be able to assist with maintaining and securing homeowners insurance policies. If the property meets all requirements itemized under Tahoe Donner’s defensible space program, the forestry department can supply owners with a compliance letter
stating that the property meets the guidelines of California Public Resources code 4291. The forestry department also works with Truckee Fire Protection District and the local CAL FIRE office and can have compliance letters from the two agencies sent to property owners. If the insurance company is citing tree issues around the home, it may be necessary to remove a few trees larger than 10 inches DBH from around the home. You can request an inspection by sending an email to forestry@tahoedonner.com.
2019 TAHOE DONNER ASSOCIATION DEFENSIBLE SPACE INSPECTION PROGRAM The Tahoe Donner Association Forestry Department has finished sending notifications out to properties in the 2019 defensible space inspection cycle. Non-compliance letters with a copy of the inspection report have been sent out to property owners in groups of approximately 30 properties. The letters note work to be completed by an established due date between the end of June through August 2019. From midMay through June 2019, a notice reminding property owners of the due date 45 days away will be sent. Properties in the 2019 program are within the southwest portion of the subdivision. Streets to be visited include: Bear Meadows Court, Copenhagen Drive, Glacier Way, Herringbone Way, Northwoods Boulevard, Rhineland Avenue, Skislope Way, Slalom Way, Snowpeak Way, Viking Way and Weisshorn Avenue. Please field any questions to the Tahoe Donner Association Forestry Department at (530) 587-9432 or email defensiblespace@tahoedonner.com.
