Seasons Greetings This year has raced by and we are now in the midst of the busy holiday season. It has been a busy year at the Taieri Parents Centre. We had another successful Jaffa Race, with the money raised enabling us to continue with the wonderful services, Music, Playgroups and Parent Evenings. It also now means that as a Parent Centre we are offering our Child Birth Education classes for free in 2017. Please let anyone you know who is newly pregnant about these informative classes as well as our services. We recently applied for a playgroup special grant from the Ministry of Education, and our application was approved in full. This money will be used to install a heat-pump into the front foyer, and also for a sand-pit cover for the sandpit. These two items will be installed before Term 1 2017 We continue to look for parents who wish to be part of the TPC committee, there are a wide range of roles and jobs, we can find something to suit the time you have and the skills you could bring. The TPC would like to extend a big Thank you to Suzie from Monday music and wish her well in her studies. We wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season and will see you all next year.
We are looking forward to seeing you all in 2017 Services begin the week beginning the 30th of January Wishing you all a Safe and Happy Summer

We are looking for someone to take Monday Music and Movement for us from 2017. Our fantastic Suzie is heading into the realms of full-time study so we will sadly say goodbye to her in December. Baby Jigglers and Little Jigglers are very popular and great fun. You don't need to be able to sing in tune, or even wiggle your hips in time...but you do need to enjoy Music and Movement and be happy to lead the classes. There are heaps of resources in place already, support available and the chance to add some new ideas! There's also an honorarium each week to say thanks! Contact Donna Christensen 3 of 12

Sun Safety A baby or child’s skin is very sensitive and can sunburn easily. Protect your baby or child from sunburn by following some simple tips. Keep them out of the hot sun from 10am–4pm. This includes cloudy days too, because they can still burn then. Sunscreen Use SPF 30+ broad spectrum sunscreen that meets safety standard AS/NZS 2604. Check the expiry date. Wipe it on thickly on your child’s exposed skin. Your pharmacist can give advice about sunscreens. Follow the instructions on the container to reapply it. Clothing Choose a sun hat that keeps the sun off their face, neck and ears, and give them sunglasses with sun-protection to wear to protect their eyes. Wear a sun hat yourself to set an example. Dress them in loose-fitting, long-sleeved clothing or clothing/swimwear made from fabric that has a special sunprotection-factor. Use a sunshade or umbrella over the pram or stroller when you’re out.
Christmas Book Ideas! A great start to bring the festive spirit into your home!
When you’re out and about Encourage children to play in the shade and keep the pram or stroller in the shade as much as possible. Be aware that the sun can burn by reflecting off water, sand and the inside of sun umbrellas. https://www.plunket.org.nz/your-child/safety/outand-about/sun-safety/

Surviving the Silly Season Christmas is nearly here. The shops are already full of tinsel, decorations and Santas. If your blood pressure rises just thinking about it, or if celebrating over the festive season feels like a massive chore, now is the time to start planning the kind of holiday you can really appreciate. Try to spread the celebrations out; remember Christmas is a season, not just one day. It should be a time to appreciate one another, yet it is also a time when relationships can be put under enormous strain. People get tired and often drink more. We might end up spending time with people we generally try to avoid. Sometimes we say or do something we wouldn’t normally. It can be difficult to manage competing expectations from partners, friends and family at this time of year.
Christmas is a great opportunity to give priority to principles about togetherness and acceptance. If you feel like your choices are either fighting or biting your tongue, you might try taking a deep breath and toasting the rich diversity amongst you. Acknowledging and even celebrating difference has a way of bringing people together. Remember, if your usual Christmas feels overwhelming, design a festival to suit you. If you like the plan for the day, then maybe you won't spend the whole of December wishing it was over.
Christmas survival checklist 1. Make time to relax with those you love. 2. Christmas is a season, not just one day. Spread the celebrations out.

8. Make it fun for the kids, and it will be easier for you.
Make a point of celebrating the things that make a difference in your life. You might want to share memories or hopes with friends and family. This is an excellent opportunity to let them know how important they are to you. Christmas offers an occasion you can use to mark the experiences that bring you joy.
10. Take time out as well as time off, allow some time just for you.
9. Lighten the financial pressure. Set a dollar limit for gifts and food.
