The life Journey Starlett Orlita Attmore-Gales was born in Brooklyn, NY on March 25, 1959 to the Late Bishop George and First Lady Pearl Attmore.
At birth, her parents knew Starlett would be a shining light. They attended Emmanuel Temple Church in Brooklyn New York, starting in 1958. Upon God’s call, George and Pearl were lead into Ministry and founded Zion Tabernacle Deliverance Church in 1969, also in Brooklyn NY. It was here that Starlett’s journey began with music and she would later grow to become The Voice and person that touched so many lives. The Attmore family and Church eventually relocated from Brooklyn to Queens Village, NY in 1980. As a child Starlett had grown accustomed to traveling with her father as he ministered locally; often placing her on top of a soapbox to sing in front of onlookers as they listened to his message. A devoted Daughter and Sister who was active in her church and community, Starlett would later graduate from Andrew Jackson High School. It was here that she along with fellow students sang in a Gospel Chorus. After graduating High School, Starlett met and married Kernal Smith. From this union five (5) Beautiful Children; Corey, Kendred, Shawn, Jabar and Melody were born. Starlett continued to Love God and be active in the Church, taking on numerous Roles and remained active in Music as a Vocalist and Songwriter. Along with her family, she simultaneously cultivated the innate talent of her 5 young children, after observing their undeniable musical ability; and as they matured, engrained the core values of God, Love, Family and Loyalty into their character. She was also, like her parents, called to serve in Ministry as Evangelist and Youth Minister at Zion.
Starlett later married the love of her life Vincent Gales who swept her off her feet, and gained two (2) more precious gifts in the process; Monique and Melanie. Together they raised their seven (7) children. Starlett was committed to making sure that not only her children but ALL children and young people she came in contact with made it to the House of the Lord. There was never a time where anyone in her presence was overlooked, and no place was too far to pick up someone and provide transportation to church service. Those who knew her, knew that the “Red Van” would be on the road to get them if they needed a way. Her presence is undeniable, her wisdom, guidance and insight has impacted so many, especially young people. She opened her heart and home, all without hesitation, and always with the intent to fill a need with love. As time went on their children grew up and their family grew also. Countless special events, road-trips, Concerts, services, family time and memories filled the years in between. In 2001 her first Grandchild, Amel was born. 14 Grandchildren followed in the years after and from the start they were each the center of her joy, affectionately known as her “Grandkids”. There are no words that can truly convey the limitless amount of devotion she has for these children. She loved and supported each one of them individually, often planning her time in accordance to theirs! As with her own children, her ability to identify their strengths & interests, teach them, and to simply love them - is insurmountable. Starlet relocated to Atlanta GA in 2014. She enjoyed spending time with her best friend and Sister, Adrianna. She continued to develop her Sweet Creations, teach her Grandchildren and volunteer her time to others. She was called home to be with the Lord on February 29th 2016. To cherish her memory, Starlett leaves behind her husband Vincent Gales of Atlanta, GA, her children; Corey (Hempstead, NY), Kendred (NY, NY), Shawn (Daughter-in-law; Kelly Smith) (NY,NY), Jabar (Daughter-in-law Corine Smith) (Bronx, NY), Monique (Baltimore, MD), Melanie (Atlanta, GA) and Melody (Atlanta, GA), Her Grandchildren; Amel, Shawn Jr., Kai, Kendred “KJ” Jr., Akeliah, Madison, Lyric, Aidan, Seven, Haylee, Karter, Malik, Corey “CJ” Jr., Amir, Jordan and Steven, Brothers and Sisters; Daniel Attmore (Sister-in-law) Ione Attmore (Queens,NY) Adrianna Turner (Brother-in-law)Brian Turner (Atlanta,GA), Desiree Attmore-King (Brother-in-law) Chauncey King-Attmore(Queens,NY),Bryan Attmore (NY,NY), a host of Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, God-Children, God-Grands, Great-Nieces and Great-Nephews, Family, Friends and Loved Ones. While nothing could ever replace her earthly presence, her legacy will forever live on through us in our lives
and our hearts.
