The Life Of.....
Mother Margaret Dubose
Mother Margaret Dubose was born on November 15th 1926 to the late Douglas and Elizabeth Carlos of Camden South Carolina. Her mother died when she was just 3 years old and her father when she was 5. This left her and her 3 sisters District Missionary Lucille Miles, Nurse Mary Lee Robinson and Elizabeth Hall to be raised by their iron fist grandmother Mrs. Missy Carlos. Mother Dubose attended Lugoff Elementary School along with her three sisters and future husband to be Sanford Dubose. She gained an 8th grade education, but was as smart as any scholar with degrees. As a child she and her 4 sisters were known as the singing Carlos Sisters in their church in which people would come all around to hear the “Little Carlos Girls” sing. Mother Dubose then moved to New York City, where she met up again with Sanford Dubose. There they were united in Holy Matrimony on August the 18th 1945 until her return home to glory. Together they had 8 children, 5 Sons: Larry Sr., Sanford Jr., Melvin, Ernest, and Arthur, 3 Daughters: Valerie, Sheila and Yvette. Mother Dubose loved to read, she read everything under the sun (as she would say). She taught herself through reading how to sew, make silk flower arrangements, cook and renovate furniture. She was also a small business owner as she would take some of her silk flowers on the weekends to the Flea Market and sell them to local families for special events. Business became so successful that she opened a brick and mortar establishment in which she sold the flowers for a short time. Everyone that knew her knew she was a wealth of knowledge. If you wanted to solve a problem or just get sound advice she always had an answer to your situation.

In 1994 Mother Dubose relocated to Chesterfield, Virginia to move closer to her sister District Missionary Lucille Miles, which she affectionately called “Sister”. Upon arrival she became a member of Word for Living Ministry where her nephew Larry C. Miles was the Pastor. Prior to moving to Virginia she had occasionally attended church, but it was here that her faith was restored. As the years passed and the church was renamed to Fresh Anointing Cathedral, her faith continued to be strengthened. Mother Dubose loved the Lord with all her heart and soul. It was nothing to walk into the house and hear her singing gospel hymns. She stood for righteousness. It did not matter who you were if you were wrong she would not condone it, instead she would correct you with love. She loved everyone and everyone loved her. She believed that everyone should be treated fairly. Mother Dubose greatest passion was taking care of her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandma, and great grandma. She gave out nicknames to any and everyone, so in return one of her great grands gave her a nickname “poo poo” due to her calling him that. She was very loving but she was also a fighter, because she was a Carlos at heart. She did not believe in backing down from a fight or a bully. She did not allow any of her family to back down either. She would say “ you better not come back until you win the fight” . She would then lecture you on how to be strong and not let anyone walk over you. Mother Dubose slipped away into glory to meet her sisters and sons on Thursday July 28th 2016. She was preceded in death by her 3 sisters, Mary Lee Robinson, Elizabeth Hall, and Lucille Miles. Her 4 sons, Larry Sr, Ernest, Arthur and Sanford Jr. Grandsons, Melvin Jr., Ivan, and Shareef (Skip). Granddaughter Alicia. She leaves to carry on her legacy her devoted husband, Sanford Dubose, 2 sister in-laws - Eva Mae Dubose, Christine Dubose, devoted children, Melvin, Valerie, Sheila(Paul) and Yvette. 31 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grand children and a host nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Thanks to those who came from far and near to help celebrate the life of our Mother Margaret Dubose. She will be missed greatly.

Do Not Stand at My Grave and Weep Do not stand at my grave and weep, I am not there; I do not sleep, I am a thousand winds that blow, I am the sunlight on ripened grain. I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning’s hush I am the swift uplifting rush of quiet birds in the circle flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night; I am not there; I did not die Mary Elizabeth Frye 1923
