Obituary Lori Ann Cofield Rascoe Thomas was born on December 15, 1970 in Edenton, NC to the late John Lester Cofield Jr. and Cora Moore Cofield. She attended Chowan County Schools. Lori accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior at an early age and lived according to His word. In 1993, she and her first husband, John Rascoe left Edenton, NC to give her children a better life. The love she shared with her family and others through her work will continue exponentially for many years. She enjoyed working with Adult Home Care and Mental Health. Her most recent venture was to operate her own residential day support home for Mental Health patients. She married Julius Thomas on September 5, 2009. They lived in Surry County, VA and then moved to Petersburg, VA. She was preceded in death by her loving Father John L. Cofield Jr., mother Cora B. Cofield, and nephew Tracy Cofield also preceded her in death. Celebrating the blessings of having been a part of her life are her husband, Julius C. Thomas, Sr, her children, Aleisha, Anita and John Rascoe, Jr. of Petersburg, VA; & Julius Thomas Jr. (Nicole) of Dendron, VA; Father-in-law, Bolden D. Thomas, Sr. (Lillian) of Norfolk, VA; 13 siblings; Barbara Griffin (Willie) of Williamston, NC; Willie B. Cofield (Glen) of Merry Hill, NC; John Cofield III (Sandra) of Winfall, NC; Clarence Cofield (Janice) of Raleigh, NC; James Cofield (Mae) of Suffolk, VA; Lee Cofield of Merry Hill, NC; Mike Cofield of Gaithersburg, MD; Brenda Burke (Jacob) of Hertford, NC; Delores Perry (Donald) of Elizabeth City, NC; Jimmy Cofield (Shelly) of Virginia; Donald Cofield (Maria) of Greenville, NC; Carolyn Bennett (Shady) of Edenton, NC and Melvin Cofield of Merry Hill, NC. She also leaves 4 grandchildren (Ashanti, Aaron, Sarah and Ava) and 1 step granddaughter (Morgan Edwards); sisters-in-law, Corlis T. Ellis (Samuel) of Dendron, VA and Sharon Thomas of Charlotte, NC; and brothers-in-law, Bolden D. Thomas (Lucy) of Carrollton, VA; Rodney R. Thomas (Vonda) of Surry, VA and Stacey B. Thomas of Savannah, GA; 3 aunts (Willie Mae Hayes of Colerain, NC; Marva Robbins of Powellsville, NC and Catherine Rawls of Newark, NJ); step-aunt Doris Myrick of Merry Hill, NC and step-uncle Lemuel Burke of Windsor, NC; plus a host of loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Lori Thomas loved God, and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She instilled in her children, step-children and grandchildren the values of life, to trust God, to love your family, respect others and work hard. She was affectionately called “Mama”; “Mama Lori”, “Ma-Dukes” or Grandma by her children, step-children and grandchildren. Lori leaves a legacy of biblical principals and love to all that knew her.
